  1. Regarding the G-E-R-S-T-L-A-U-E-R trains on Der Mammut, I thought they seemed very similar to regular G-E-R-S-T-L-A-U-E-R trains. The main difference seemed to be they used real padding with foam and stuff, and not that horrible plastic concrete stuff they used in the older rolling stock.
  2. Perhaps to add some action and energy into a film that was otherwise slow and tiresome. I think that games v. rides split might be a real thing, but whomever thinks you should put the dorks in games has it backwards. Sweden has this one figured out.
  3. Usually, the best way to handle that is to negotiate that up front. If you get a job offer, you can say "I have this vacation that I've already booked for July. Is that OK?" This method works pretty well. Though you might have to take it as unpaid time since you haven't accrued vacation time yet. What you want to avoid is mentioning the trip before you get an offer (i.e. interview process) or after you've already started working. Both of those methods are not good.
  4. I saw this movie when it was in the theater and was greatly disappointed with it. Having a Y-chromosome, I'm just not into romantic comedies. Maybe it's my bad for not properly reading up on the film before I went to see it. Somehow I thought the previews over emphasized the comedy and under emphasized the romance/drama. But the movie turned out to be 90% romance/drama and maybe 10% comedy. Since I've never worked in an amusement park, I can't really relate on that front. But as a coaster nerd, I was *hoping* for more coaster footage or something. Ultimately, I think this movie had very little to do with amusement parks in general. I think it was just a backdrop for the main focus, which was drama. And just a touch of comedic relief was thrown in to make it not too depressing.
  5. Alcohol is food. I've got it right here in my notes. More calories per gram than protein or sugars.
  6. QFT. That's a straight up Disney Deluxe quality resort.
  7. ^It was an excellent trip. The parks were so nice to us. Nearly everywhere we went we got the red carpet treatment. Surprisingly good coasters and parks as well.
  8. Excellent photos, as always.
  9. It's an Internet classic! Like the famous goatse.cx.
  10. Yeah, I think you guys or Big Mike + random craigslist hooker would have done a better job. Experience counts.
  11. ^I've only had one cycle on it because it was broken for most of the day I was at SFNE. But, it is a ride that definitely deserves its acclaim. Lots of strong airtime taken at high speed. Very nice pacing throughout. As far as steel goes, I think I only like Insane and GeForce more.
  12. Mr. Hands didn't bleed out. He died of a massive infection of the peritoneal cavity, called general peritonitis. Basically, the colon is full of all kinds of nasty bacteria. The cells that line the colon are held together by these things called tight junctions that form a barrier that holds the bacteria inside the colon. When you perforate the colon, you tear the barrier and the bacteria move into the cavity and create a massive infection. You need immediate medical attention because you'll die in hours, not days.
  13. That's quite a funicular! Kind of amazing that it's still around at that steep of a grade.
  14. ^I don't recall complaining about Yo Gabba Gabba. Or Magnum PI. How about 95% of things. I clicked on the video in both links again and it's different than when I watched it before. They're a bit more sedate in the ones that are up there now. The video I watched earlier included some over-the-top, nobody-acts-like-that-outside-reality-TV-and-infomercials enthusiasm. But, point taken. I've been PMSing ever since school started and I do nothing but study all day every friggen' day. It has drained all the fun out of my life.
  15. I've only been on this ride one time and it was just an average woodie. I tried to ride it again this year, but it wasn't on the Q-Bot that I had that day. And I didn't feel like waiting after paying all that money for the Q-Bot.
  16. http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/food/alcohol.cfm Sounds like you should have no problems with your intent to "buy a beer and walk around with it? haha", as long as you don't take anything out of the park.
  17. Wow, these were the "best" people they could find? Might as well have hired Stacey from the WDW "Top 7 Must Sees" infomercial they play 24x7 at WDW resorts.
  18. Riding a SLC is about as much fun as getting an IRS audit while a gang of midgets smashes your testicles with a hammer. One and done for me.
  19. In this case it's a good thing. They're replacing a sucky coaster with a themed GCII woodie.
  20. That one I can see either getting bought for parts or maybe for actual use in Central/South America or maybe Germany. Or maybe Shane will buy it for his water park.
  21. That's not actually what I said. I think I implied that lawyers who take sleazy cases are sleazy. You know like the ones where nobody got hurt and you're just looking for a quick buck.
  22. ^That's a horrible precedent to set. Now the sleazy lawyers get paid even when bad things DON'T happen. If the legal environment gets bad enough in the US to where ride vendors have to pay out even when nobody is hurt, you might see Intamin do a few things: 1) Only sell over-restrained coasters with minimal forces. Notice how the only Intamin hyper to have been built in the US for nearly 10 years features OTSRs? 2) Pack up and leave the country.
  23. I have to agree. I'd rather see a really good water park than a mediocre combination park. The midwest, I think, doesn't really have many excellent water parks. Nothing like you'd see in Florida, anyway. I'd even like to see Six Flags take on a Wet 'n Wild approach where a little inexpensive theming goes a long way.
  24. ^I have a brand new HP laptop that runs unacceptably slow with Vista. I'm told it has more to do with Vista having unreasonable hardware requirements to run properly though. And supposedly Windows 7 will run better on non-top-of-the-line machines. Anyway, I've got my fingers crossed. Buying a $2,000 MacBook Pro isn't something I want to do any time soon.
