  1. I thought Scream! was one of the more ridable coasters at Magic Mountain. Both Scream! and Hulk had rattle when I rode them, but were not rough. Oddly enough, Riddler's beat me up the most of all the SFMM coasters. I had an awful neck ache for the rest of the day after one lap on that. I noticed that 3 of the 4 SFMM B&Ms rattle. Tatsu was the only one that didn't, but it's the newest. I wonder if this is more because of poor maintenance than design or manufacturing defects.
  2. I'm going to have to agree. Dollywood's entrance looks even better in person.
  3. I agree for the most part. Tatsu is an attractive coaster. If anything they should rip Revolution out, because the ride isn't good anymore. Those are probably the worst restraints I've experienced.

    Trip Costs

That makes a lot of sense if you're only after coasters. Universal has great coasters, but I think Busch Gardens has even better ones. If you're trying to save money, you could just throw some sandwiches and snacks into a cooler, and avoid buying expensive park food. Though I dunno how that would fly in the vicious Florida heat.
  5. That's just awful. I thought it was illegal to fire someone for serving in the military.
  6. Yeah, two people just died. Hilarious! You should consider social work with your empathy.
  7. I dunno dude. It's obvious that her life was one giant train wreck, but this doesn't make her a nuisance. I had to listen to a bunch of holier-than-thou types at work yesterday ramble about how she was "trash". Great! Anna was not born with much in the brains department, and so she leveraged what she had- her looks. Sure she was way more famous than she should have been, but that goes for most celebrities. At least she wasn't a mean spirited ass like Paris Hilton. So many people criticize her for being a gold digger when nearly everyone talks about how they'd love to marry rich. She obviously made the old man very happy in his declining years. Anyway, Anna ain't Marilyn. She doesn't have anywhere near the mystique. This story won't press on for too long. It's not even a day old as of right now. Expect a few weeks of TV coverage, and a few made for TV movies. After that, she's gone.
  8. I don't think that criticism is a bad thing, and I don't think enthusiasts are too critical. To me it's clear that all coasters are not created equal. Since this is a very expensive hobby that costs me thousands of dollars per year, I want to know I'm spending my money well. Credit whoring is fun, but ultimately I'm in this for the great rides. I use resources like Mitch's poll, themeparkcritic, this forum, and coaster videos to help me plan out my trips. This lets me know ahead of time what I'm probably getting myself into. If a ride is awful, I want to know about it ahead of time. Maybe I should skip a certain park and spend my money elsewhere. Sure we get snarky at times, and sure we overstate our opinions. But, ultimately I view this as a very positive thing. Until we get Consumer Reports to start covering coasters in-depth, I'll continue to rely on the opinions of other enthusiasts.
  9. I really hope that both of these coasters are included in the europe 2008 trip.
  10. This story is really nothing compared to the MONSTER that was the media coverage of the OJ trial. That was so awful that I gave up news entirely for at least 5 years. They just would not let the story go. People kill their spouses every day. Who cares? Move on.
  11. It gets worse than that. I watched a few episodes of that crazy show she used to have. At one point she claimed to have not known about the September 11th attacks, a few years after they took place.
  12. It's called getting old.
  13. Antidepressants aren't likely to make you fall over and die like she did. Unless she was on one of the old tricyclics, like desipramine. Those were quite cardiotoxic, and could kill with ease. Croakers, however, have learned not to prescribe those drugs as a result. I think she's going to be another River Phoenix, and have a cornucopia of illegal drugs in her.
  14. They could buy this: http://italintl.com/detail_page.php?record_id=940 I think it's the old Myrtle Beach Pavilian Hurricane. Although I'm no expert, I'd imagine that those hybrid structures move well as they're mostly steel. They'd have to dig up a few trains for it though, as those are already sold.
  15. No big deal. I wonder how much they can build that place up. They're going to need to put in another hotel before long.
  16. Huh? AFAIK, they made 1 million guests in 2006. http://www.insideindianabusiness.com/newsitem.asp?ID=19983 That's pretty damn amazing considering they're in the middle of NOWHERE. Seriously, the first time we drove out there my gf thought it was a joke. It seemed like there was no way there could be a park out there.
  17. Yeah, but you know as well as I do that they can't do that forever.
  18. Yeah, but I don't think MiA could pull it off. HW is exceptionally well run. It's obvious that the Kochs really take pride in their little family owned park.
  19. I agree that it's unlikely that MiA will see any rapid growth, at least the way it's being run right now. Holiday World is a great example of a growing park that's way out in the middle of nowhere. It's not a resort park. All they've got is Satan's Lodge! They spent something like $6.5 million on the Voyage, and it was money very well spent. But, I think it's obvious that HW is a much more well run park.
  20. Yeah, that's about the size of it. Actually, it's possible that they could force you into a specialty that you don't even want to be in. They claim that they don't, but I don't believe this. If they need X number of pathologists per year and they don't make that number, some people could get moved. I'm getting kinda a late start in this. 4 years of not making private sector pay could seriously affect my retirement. Being able to retire before I'm 85 sure would be nice.
  21. I dunno. I have yet to be on a Eurofighter, but spinning mice totally mess me up. I don't like spinning rides, and I'm not alone in that. I can handle inversions far more easily. Mystery Mine, as far as I can tell, isn't going to be too extreme. It's not huge, and certainly isn't going to break any speed or height records. I'd just like to see more of this, and less wild mouse installations. I've only been on one mouse that I actually enjoyed, the one at Busch Gardens Africa.
  22. As a voluntary program, why not. I'm premed, and will probably be attending medical school next year. I briefly considered doing an Air Force scholarship. They'll pay for your entire education if you commit to 4 years of working for them. I decided against it. It probably would have costed me a ton of money, as the Air Force doesn't pay anywhere near what private practice does. And there's always the chance that they could force you into a residency of their choosing. No thanks!
  23. In Ohio that would be pretty hard to do. You have to have worked at a job for 3 months AND be laid off in order to collect unemployment for a maximum of six months. It would be a lot easier to just go get welfare.
  24. Well that's another issue. I just wanted to clarify that collecting unemployment doesn't necessarily denote you as a scumbag. I collected it for about 6 months in late 99 through early 2000. Nobody would hire IT people in late 99 due to the y2k issue. No new projects. Everyone had a wait and see attitude. I've now had the same job for 7 years, and have more than paid back whatever I collected. I didn't feel in the least bit bad about collecting money from a system that I had paid into. I was getting my money back!
