  1. Did the Cobra once as a youngun at the local county fair, vaguely remembering it scaring the crap out of me. (Most carny rides do). The neighboring Mineral County (W. VA) fair gets the Scat every year. They like to run it at shit-your-pants length. I swear it lasts 10 minutes plus !! Definitely the ultimate head rush...
  2. To be quite honest I am almost positive that there was an article in an old (please don't hit me) issue of ACE news. That diagram of the "track" with the long straight and the S curves was in something I have read in the past. It has been some time ago like probably 10 years or so but I do remember seeing the exact same pic. If I can find my old issues I will do some searching.
  3. You know, it still saddens me while waiting in line for Volcano to see all the old parts of the Haunted River/Atlantis water ride. I really miss the original Lost World and the 3 rides. Kings Dominion was such a magical/happy place years ago. Now it is about extreme teenage thrills. God bless the King Cobra and the Apple Turnover lol.....
  4. Does anyone remember the old TV show from the early 80's "That's Incredible"? One episode showed a man with a set of skis hooked to a coaster chassis and skied around a corkscrew coaster somewhere. I have tried to do some searching on the internet but I can't find any info on the old websites about the episode or the coaster.
  5. Although I am glad they remade the Steel Phantom as it pretty much hurt like hell, I must say I miss the Laser Loop. Standing in line for the Phantom I can't hlp but think that the 2 coasters could exist on the same land. How cool would that be to shoot down through the structure of the lift hill and go up the front spike towards the top of the Phantoms "big" drop!! Going back to the time I was little, (I am now 34) I vaguely remember the kiddy coaster about where the Raging Rapids is today. Anything on that one, RCDB really doesn't have any good shots of it...
  6. http://www.skiwisp.com/ Here is a link to the website for the Wisp, home of Maryland's newest "Coaster". I did read somewhere that it would be open year round, but the winters up here get pretty damn cold and blustery. Not your ideal "coaster" riding weather!
  7. Just an update for anyone in reasonable traveling distance, or anyone passing through Western Maryland in the coming months. http://www.times-news.com/local/local_story_288130850.html
  8. Just came across this on their website, thought I would share It's a BURNING question... onethat's just TOO HOT TO HANDLE. We've been getting the third-DEGREE about our plans, and some people think we have COLD feet about announcing them to the world. But now it's time to EXTENGUISH all the rumors. Check back here for HOT news to share on Thursday, September 27 at noon (the hottest part of the day, of course!)
  9. The picture from Lake Winnie of the covered wagon /rainbow type ride, is that the old Conestoga ride from Hersheypark ? I really miss that ride there. It had a unique kinda thrill all of its own....
  10. WOW, I can't believe you didn't make time for The Comet, sdL, and Great Bear, but did for Roller Soaker and Sidewinder?? sdL being the classic Anton and Comet a very good, smooth and lightly airtimed woodie. As far as Storm Runner goes, I don't believe they could slow it down as it needs to maintain the same speed to get over the top hat. (correct me if I am wrong). And in my honest opinion, it is way better than the one trick pony of TTD. All in all, I find any trip to HP to be of the better times than most of the parks I have ever visited.
  11. cool PTR, one of these days I am gonna hit up Canada. I believe CF is trying to recreate the buzz they got from Maverick by starting construction so early. Look at all the hype they got from how many hundreds of websites and forums for almost a year before any kind of announcement was made! Kinzel at his best!
  12. I really think it coulda used more footage of the actual construction, especially towards the end of the project. There was nothing about the water splash on either dive coaster and there wasn't a whole lot about the Renegade. Kind of a worthless show in my opinion. I did find the school girl screaming on Sheikra pretty funny!
  13. Small parks can be found just about anywhere in PA. Idlewild, Lakemont, DelGrosso's are 3 of my favorites. Each one is unique in it;s own way. Really seem to enjoy these days more than I do at the bigger overpriced/overcrowded parks. I like the uncomfortable feel of the old time classic spin and pukes that make noise when they run!! It adds to the thrill! And all 3 parks have pretty decent coasters as well.
  14. Gravitron's are fun, but I voted for Round Up because of the open air feeling and the sights and sounds of the midway all around. As was stated earlier, where was the Rotor? Anyone remember the Time Shaft from Kings Dominion?
  15. The video does seem to be "slow" for some reason, but I would imagine going down that line in the hanging position would be pretty darn impressive and somewhat scay.
  16. Got this from a link in my Rudefun pic of the day email. Sorry if it has been done before, I searched and seen nothing of it. Here is the description: "The World's tallest, fastest, and longest zipline in South America is an incredible experience for all thrill seakers! " http://www.jokeroo.com/extremevideos/worlds_fastest_zipline.html
  17. I took a liking to the closeness of all the supports and surroundings. I can only imagine how amazing it is to be flying through all of that stuff narrowly missing everything, plus the water below. Sure beats the heck out of the overgrown weeds on SFA's Mind Eraser!!
  18. When and which hills were removed? I rode the FOC at Carowinds a few years back and the last bunny hop was removed as was the one on Scooby Doo at KD I believe.
  19. No sir, the thread you speak of is about the one in Baltimore, MD. That is 200 miles from the one at the wisp resort!!!!
  20. Overcoming boredom while waiting on dinner I came across this article in a magazine for a new waterpark/resort at Deep Creek Lake. http://www.aquamountainresort.com/aqua-mountain/community-impact/
  21. Sitting in a local restaurant reading a magazine waiting on dinner I came across this story, I was impressed ! http://www.mountaindiscoveries.com/images/ss2007/mountaincoaster.pdf ADMIN EDIT: Thanks for posting this info, But.....Please do not make topic titles IN ALL CAPS WITH A BUNCH OF !!!!!!!! at the end. It's freaking annoying and no one wants to see that. Thanks! --Robb
  22. Just returned from the park,DelGrosso's, WOW, dead. Everything was walk on with usually a wait for a half full capacity. Crazy Mouse was 2 - 3 car wait!!!! Hey Jim S. the waterpark has been there for a few years, never had any landscape, doesn't appear to be getting any either. It would look a lot nicer with some trees and what not. I know on hot summer days you pretty much bake over there unless you are in the water the whole time. I looked around, and unless they put in the new coaster between the train tracks in the back corner, I would imagine it to be over in the field by the waterslides as there really is no room in the park proper for it. As for the mouse at Lakemont Jeezus Juice, I believe it was removed 2 years ago, not sure why, other than the fact it was like pure death for someone over 5 feet tall!!!!
  23. I agree that Lakemont is a better park for the price and rides, but DelGrosso's is a nicer park, not as Ghettoed lol!! Only thing that sucks about Lakemont is they are closed on Monday and Tuesday and today happens to be a free day for me so we are taking the kids to DelGrossos with our discounts off of the spaghetti sauce jars. BTW, I checked RCDB again last night and the Corkscrew is still slated for a 2008 opening. Looks like all of the pieces including cars are across the street in the field near the warehouse/Go Kart track. Just wondering where they might be planning on installing it in a very small park such as that.
  24. I was just about to say the same thing that RaptorBoy just said. Have you ever seen the speed of the Phantom's Revenge chain when they add the second train to the track? It slows drastically. When CP runs 2 trains on Iron Dragon, there is usally no change in the lift speed. It is all about the blocks.......
  25. Sorry FeelTheForce, must be getting dyslexic in my old age lol, thanx for "fixing" that error! I would also like to add 2004 and Storm Runner to the list.
