  1. I saw The Unborn last night, and it really wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. There were some nice jumpy moments and some good horror, and the story was decent. The special effects were good for this type of movie, but there was just something missing. The people in the theater more than made up for that though. Half of the people there were preteen girls, and the amount of screaming and jumping was hilarious. I generally jump at scary movies, then laugh at the fact that I was just scared by a movie, and this made that experience all the better. The biggest complaint I had was that they never explained why the neighbor kid was the messenger for the demon that was trying to be born. But other than that, it was a decent movie. 6.5/10
  2. I just got back from seeing The Curious Case of Benjamin Button for my birthday and it was absolutely amazing. One of the best movies I've ever seen. The acting was amazing, the story was amazing, the movie was deep on many levels. All three people I was with cried (two of which are typical guys, so that's saying something ). Although a long movie, it didn't feel like it, which is something that's difficult for many long movies to do, such as King Kong (which I love, except for the length). I would seriously recommend going to see it, like now. 9.5/10
  3. It's fun, but I noticed a few mistakes. Flight of Fear was not the first launched coaster, and Batman opened in 1992, not 1996.
  4. ^I think it's somewhere around 70 feet. No coasters at the park are taller than that currently, and that number sounds familiar (not that that really means anything) so I think that can give us a ballpark number to estimate the maximum height for this ride.
  5. ^I'm not saying your opinion isn't valid (since I have heard that the movie is not very good), but isn't it hard to fully evaluate a movie without finishing it? I know of a lot of movies that start off much slower than they end and seem a whole heck of a lot better after finishing them or after seeing it again. What makes you say it was so bad? Was it the acting, script, etc., or was it the storyline? I'm curious since this movie appeared to be one of those movies that would be amazing to some, and awful to others, and I'm interested in what people think about it.
  6. I just saw WALL-E for the first time, and it was amazing. I never thought that a movie with as little dialogue and inanimate characters could be so funny and easy to relate to. And the many Apple references throughout the movie made me happy lol. I'd give it a 9.5/10 I also watched Taken last night and it was a decent movie. The action was a little over-the-top and I really wish movie producers would really cut back on the number of goons with guns that couldn't shoot a beluga whale to save their lives. At one point I think five people were shooting at him, one with a machine gun, and he didn't get hit...from twenty feet away. Other than that though, the story was decent, and was an entertaining action movie. I'd give it a 7/10 I also saw Mirrors, which surprisingly wasn't as bad as I though it was going to be. I was expecting a horror movie along the lines of quality of One Missed Call, but it was decent. Very typical story, twist ending, etc. But it was acted pretty well and entertained me the whole way through, which is a hard thing to do with recent horror movies. I'd give it a 6.5/10
  7. ^Well that's kind of out of the hands of Alton Towers. It's part of the zoning for the park if I remember correctly due to the complaints of the many nagging neighbors of the park.
  8. ^Nope. In all seriousness, I somewhat agree that besides the first two major elements, there aren't many "thrilling" elements, but the rest of the ride looks exceptionally fun. And that's what I feel is most important for a ride at a park aiming to entertain the entire family. I fell that Mummy is a good comparison to the intensity of this ride. Not too thrilling, just really good fun that is enjoyable over and over again. I'm really looking forward to this ride as it is a great addition to the lineup of rides at Universal Studios if it is on the same level of fun as Revenge of the Mummy.
  9. I'm so jealous. I've always wanted to go on a cruise. It doesn't help that my grandma, my aunts, and my mom are cruise enthusiasts. The other week, while finishing my final project and watching the snow I got a text from my mom telling me how beautiful the weather was in the British Virgin Islands and how they had upgraded to the Garden Villa on the Norwegian Jewel. I wanted nothing more than to be there right then. And that zipline looks to be one of the most awesome things ever. I would kill to be able to zipline out over the crystal blue waters like that.
  10. ^But that's how records work for anything. If it hits a certain speed, that's its top speed, and if that number is higher than any other coaster before it, then it holds the record, even if it slows down to half that speed directly afterwards. It's the same with cars for example. Saying a car produces 1001 horsepower, such as the Bugatti Veyron does, does not mean that the car is constantly producting 1001 horsepower. It makes this much at one single RPM. Just because at every other RPM it produces less horsepower does not mean that it doesn't produce 1001 horsepower.
  11. ^I'm the same. I have no problem with a ride meandering if it was designed properly to do so and isn't just a failed attempt at a thrilling element. I have no problem with Hulk's ending or Ice's ending which is way less exciting than Fire's. Meandering after some thrilling elements adds some nice variety and for those that this ride is catering towards, it makes sense to not have a non-stop thrill machine, such as Maverick or ROTM (although after diving into "hell" Mummy does kind of meander a bit). A perfect example of a large scale, family-oriented coaster that has a LOT of meandering is Expedition Everest. The ride is not intense by any means (the big drop is thrilling, but not really all that intense of an element) yet it is regarded very highly by enthusiasts and the general public. And I think with the inclusion of an on-board soundtrack, this ride should be a lot more exciting than some are thinking. People love options . It's reason to ride again. To see if the ride is better or worse with a different song. I think this ride is quite an intelligent investment for Universal Studios.
  12. ^Lol, it's typical of coaster enthusiasts to nit pick when it comes to new rides. And it's funny. If you look at all of Universal Orlando's major coasters, only one of them is themed. The others are quite open to the elements and gain their "theme" from their interaction with the park. Dueling Dragons (with the exception of the line and station obviously) is basically two inverted coasters over an artificial lake and The Incredible Hulk, again, really only has theming in the queue and station areas. This ride is no different and should be just as good if not better than these two rides. It will be difficult to take the spot from Mummy for me as my favorite ride at Universal Orlando however. Universal is a great example of how to have amazing coasters that are both themed extensively or themed very sparingly.
  13. ^^^Hmmm, my memory must be serving me incorrectly then. Maybe it's not the red beacon that has to be added after 200', but I'm almost 100 percent positive that something different has to happen after 200'. Does anyone know? And I'm really looking forward to my next trip to Orlando hopefully around Christmas 2009. Manta is looking great and will be my first B&M flyer and this ride is certainly the one extra attraction that I feel Universal Studios needs. Being a coaster fan, I love the small but high quality collection of coasters Islands of Adventure has and feel that two awesome coasters in Universal Studios would give it the extra nudge to being my favorite of the two parks. Mummy is my favorite coaster, and with attractions like Jaws, MIB, ET, and hopefully HRRR, this park will have one of the best collections of rides out there in my opinion.
  14. I'm not sure of the actual height, but I doubt that it will be taller than 200'. The reason being that in Orlando, anything over 200' needs a red airplane warning beacon which doesn't exactly fit into the theme of Harry Potter and Hogwarts. That's also the reason why Dr. Doom's is 199'.
  15. ^^^Yes, it was over the top, but in those movies, it was believable. Very unlikely in real life, yes, but believable. Surviving a nuclear explosion from ground zero is unbelievable to pretty much everyone. Yes, both are over the top, but the old movies did it in a way that was somewhat believable and did not detract from the overall story. They made sense. There was no reason for Indy to run towards a town that was very clearly not inhabited by anyone and have to live through a nuclear explosion.
  16. ^I think that's only part of it. The first Indiana Jones movies were always extraordinary, but the new one was too over-the-top. Surviving a nuclear explosion in a fridge that was hurtled through the air is a sure sign of ridiculousness. And the special effects in the movie weren't very believable in quite a few scenes, such as the sword battle between vehicles through the jungle, and Shia swinging with the monkeys through the canopy. And then the alien ending didn't help the movie. It just wasn't at the same level as the older Indy movies.
  17. Quantum of Solace 6/10 Although entertaining (which isn't really saying much since pretty much any movie entertains me), this was a huge let down. I loved Casino Royale, and expected a decent follow-up, yet this movie really felt like a filler movie before another Casino Royale style Bond movie. The action scenes were pretty good, but the storyline felt slow and drawn out. And another downside was seeing yet another beautiful Aston Martin basically destroyed and Alfas being thrown off cliffs and crashed head on into big trucks . I would recommend seeing it since it does continue the story of Casino Royale, yet not very thrillingly.
  18. ^Lol. As bad as their stock has been lately, you could make some serious money off of them. There have been quite a few times lately where shortly after their stock prices plummet that they end up nearly doubling in price. If you bought at the low then sold at the high, you could have turned a pretty large profit. Anywho, I kind of like the purple color. It's different. I'm just not sure what they are going to do in terms of retheming the ride. It seems like it would be odd to change the name of a world-recognized ride.
  19. Gas is currently lying between $1.85 and $2.00 here. I don't drive when I'm at school, and it always seems to work out perfectly that whenever I'm at school, prices drop, and the instant I go home for break, they feel the need to skyrocket.
  20. I'm writing this on a 17 inch Macbook Pro, and I must say I am in love with this computer. I have literally never had a single problem with it and it just works. The same cannot be said for my family PC, my personal desktop PC, or my older brother's laptop. Yes, they are expensive, but it is astounding how easy to use they are. I wasn't sure what to think when entering college and a Macbook Pro was required for my major since I had never used a Mac before, but it only took a matter of weeks before I converted to a Mac person. I will never spend the money on a PC again. And from what I've seen with my friends' computers, that is a good thing. Almost all of my friends with PC's have had some sort of serious problem in less than a year of owning their computers, yet I only know of one person out of the 120+ people in my major with Macbook Pros who has had a serious problem (hard drive committed suicide three times. She must have bad luck). So if two computers isn't a necessity, I would definitely go with the Mac as you will have a more robust, long-lasting computer.
  21. Sex Drive: 7/10 My friend and I went to see this last night and going in, I wasn't expecting much other than a Eurotrip wannabe. Despite the very similar story lines, this movie was actually quite funny. There really was never a long break between laughs and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. If you are into the comedy seen in Eurotrip, Superbad, etc. then you should go see this movie. There are a lot of bad reviews of it going around, but I think they are unjustified. You just need to take it for what it is and have a good time while doing so.
  22. ^That's exactly how it was for me too. And once you get into college, basically no one cares anymore. I came out freshman year of college, and so far not a single person has ever made any sort of negative comment towards me or the gay community. Granted, I'm part of a design school (DAAP at the University of Cincinnati) and the artistic population is generally more accepting of all different lifestyles. But still, as people mature these days, the differences amongst themselves seem to make less and less of a difference, which is a good thing.
  23. ^I wouldn't let it bother you. I'm gay, and I can't stand it either, but at your age, people are still insecure with who they are, and many straight people will say this. Maturity often changes this (or so it has in m situation, may be different elsewhere).
  24. ^I know what you mean about the twist. I mean, it was interesting, but not what I was expecting, and not in a very good way. But overall, the movie was pretty good. I'd give it a 8/10.
  25. ^Lol, I don't really know what's happened to the simple things teens used to do. I mean, when I was first getting into high school, that was a common thing for us to do. Hang out in groups and go to the mall or to a movie. Now that my brother is growing up, he seems like he's doing more every weekend being only 13 than I used to do ever. He's going to parties, going on dates, etc. I may not be very old, but in my short life, I've noticed how much quicker kids grow up these days. It's kind of sad to be honest. Large portions of what childhood should be are being eliminated from our culture.
