  1. ^ I hope I can still ride like that when I'm 33+! I have cousins in their early 30s/late 20s that used to ride EVERYTHING, but now they have to take it slower because they can't ride like they used to.
  2. ^^ No one is "personally attacking" you. That would be saying things like you're an idiot, you're stupid, you have no knowledge, you don't know what you're talking about, etc., which no one has done. People (including the owner of this website) are simply making the suggestion that you try it first before passing judgement and putting it down so quickly, or just try to have a positive attitude, despite the minor "inconvenience," as you call it. Personally I couldn't care less about the restraints. Every other Intamin I've been on with them has been great, so I don't mind them at all. Looking forward to possibly riding this in August.
  3. Mine is definitely winning the naming contest for Aftershock at Silverwood. It's pretty cool knowing that I have left my mark in a park and have named a rollercoaster! Also, this one probably isn't that big to some, but I was waiting to get seated at TGI Fridays in the Hotel Breakers at Cedar Point when Dick Kinzel himself just went strolling by. I thought it was pretty cool seeing someone that high up in the organization in person like that.
  4. ^ Hell, for $8.5 million they could have even built a Voyage clone.
  5. They posted this on their facebook this morning:
  6. Just bought Bad Company 2. Working my way through the single player first before playing online. Great game so far!
  7. Yep, I've been on Tatsu (rode it a month after it opened, so probably when it was at it's smoothest ever) and Superman at Great Adventure. I don't find Firehawk to be that rough, and/or unenjoyable. It's definitely a different experience from a B&M flyer. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand your point and where you are coming from. I just wanted to make it a point of my own that not everyone ("in the know" or not) has the same views. Just because a ride is rough, doesn't automatically make it unenjoyable and a horrible ride. I also thoroughly enjoyed Viper, Colossus, X, Ninja, Deja Vu, etc. at SFMM...also coasters that could be considered "rough" and unenjoyable to some.
  8. Um...I consider myself to "know better" and I thoroughly enjoy Firehawk...it's a really fun coaster.
  9. I don't think they really have much of a choice considering it's all flat...
  10. My first park will most likely be Cedar Point. I am unsure what my first ride will be. Probably Dragster, Millennium, Wicked Twister, or Raptor.
  11. Epic first post. I lol'd. But seriously, you couldn't have said it better in saying that "we are the winners here." I completely agree.
  12. The class isn't relevant, no. It's the fact that people are claiming that the support-work is what makes a ride and changes the experience. Now does that make sense?
  13. ^^ That wasn't what I was getting at. Steel has to be used, because just bare wood would be torn apart very quickly. There really aren't many other options other than steel strips. My point being...steel on the track has been used since the early 1900s (probably earlier) and no one has said anything about the classification of the coaster until now, from what I am aware of. Wooden track has barely changed over decades, it is what it is, and now, because there is a steel strip, it should be re-classified as a hybrid because of some new track?
  14. So, by your logic, coasters like The Voyage, Hades, Ravine Flyer II, etc. are all not considered wooden coasters and should be stripped of the awards given to them? What about the fact that ALL wooden coasters use steel for the wheels to ride on? It's not that difficult of a concept to grasp. As Steve said above me, steel track is steel track, and wooden track is wooden track...simple as that. The supports aren't what changes the experience, thus requiring coasters to be classed differently, the track is what does that.
  15. Actually SoB had wood track in the loop. The difference was that it was attached to a steel structure. It can clearly be seen in this picture http://www.coasterimage.com/pictures/albums/_wallpaper/sonofbeast_1280.jpg Yeah, and I would like to add that having a steel structure doesn't mean it's not a wooden coaster. Look at coasters built by (the now defunct) CCI, such as Villain, Mega Zeph, Cornball Express, etc.
  16. Socom 4 announced for Playstation 3. It's being developed by Zipper Interactive, the same company that developed Socom 1, 2, & 3. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/03/socom-4-its-official/ I am REALLY pumped about this!
  17. According to Amusement Today, "the steel track is about the same weight as the former 9-ply wooden track complete with steel track and track bolts." As far as trains go, my guess is that they would probably be the same weight, or possibly even lighter due to newer technology. That's assuming brand new trains would be manufactured. Yeah, that's pretty badass. Especially considering El Toro has a drop of 76 degrees, T-Express has a drop of 77 degrees, and Millennium Force has a drop of 80 degrees.
  18. Hmm, yeah, "first of it's kind track design" it also says on Amusement Today. Interesting indeed. What is also interesting is that it also says that the steel track is about the same weight as the former 9-ply wooden track complete with steel track and track bolts. That was something I was originally concerned about...if the structure could handle the weight of the steel. In my opinion, this is a huge breakthrough that could revolutionize wooden coasters. But in the same respect, I agree with you, Robb. If track like this is used, then wooden coasters are no long considered wooden coasters. In my opinion, this track option shouldn't be used when building new coasters, because as we have seen in coasters like recent GCI ones and Gravity Group ones, traditional wooden track can still be used to make great, world-class coasters. I think this should be used sparingly, to preserve the integrity of the wooden coaster as we know it today. Rather, it should be used to resurrect older wooden coasters that are well past their prime, like Mean Streak, Son of Beast, Beast, etc. and give them new life. But that's just my opinion. I'm liking this project a lot more than I originally thought. I was under the impression originally that this would just be a normal wooden coaster re-track, with the 'Six Flags touch' added to it (flamethrowers, etc.), but this has definitely caught my eye, and will result in me following the remainder of the project very closely...perhaps even planning a visit down there within the next few years to ride this.
  19. ^^ I agree, the track is what changes the experience of a coaster, thus causing it to be classed differently, not the way it is supported.
  20. ^ Yeah, it definitely gives hope to those old and "used to be amazing, but not so good anymore" Dinn wooden coasters. Especially one like Mean Streak that is still in the top 10 for height and speed amongst wooden coasters. Also, thanks for clearing those up for me Robb, I wasn't sure.
  21. My guess is that it's generally the same as pre-fab track (the same concept at least), but perhaps an updated version that utilizes updated technology? Regardless, it looks like it's going to be transformed into an awesome ride! Cedar Point should take notes for Mean Streak...they could make that one hell of a ride, judging by the sound of TG's rehab progress.
  22. As far as actual gameplay is concerned, it's generally the same as previous NBA 2K versions from what I have experienced...maybe a few tweaks here and there. The simmed scores and stats can be a little off sometimes, but they aren't too bad. One of the gripes I do have, though is that the Kings are currently 2nd in the West in my Superstar mode with a record of like 18-8. I do know that they've added the D-League, and also a "My Player" mode, where you create a player and work your way up through the ranks. It's a very basic version of the mode, but at least they've added it nonetheless. What I do like, though, are the things you can do off the court in "The Association" mode (franchise mode). I don't know if this is new or not, but the signing players to contracts aspect is fairly detailed. You can add player or team options, incorporate a no-trade clause, change the percentages, etc. You can also do all the usual things like manage your team budget, coach salaries, trading blocks, fairly detailed scouting, etc. I also like 2K Share, where you can upload and download things such as game sliders, updated rosters (or custom ones created by other people...I know the 95 Bulls are on there), draft classes (so you have real players like John Wall, instead of made up ones like Bob Smith from North Dakota Tech), created players, etc. There are demos of both NBA 2K10 and NBA Live 10 on the Xbox Live Marketplace and Playstation Store, if you'd like to try them out for yourself. I wouldn't spend $60 on 2K10, but it's a pretty good deal for $40, in my opinion. I do believe that NBA Live is still $60, though.
  23. Here are some suggestions and opinions I have regarding brands, from my personal experience: Don't buy a Netgear router. I had one for less than a year and it "crapped out" on me. It worked fine, then practically overnight it just stopped working. My PS3 (wireless) wouldn't stay connected, my dad's laptop (wireless) wouldn't stay connected, and even the desktop would occasionally get disconnected, and that was WIRED. Here's what my Netgear router looked like: At first we thought it was our ISP, Comcast, but I bought a new one that's a Linksys and it has been working flawlessly ever since (well over a year ago). My PS3 is as fast as ever, never getting disconnected once, my dad's laptop has no problems, and the wired connection is great. Here's what my Linksys router looks like:
