  1. Nope... and I go to the park a lot. Usually during Haunt or Saturdays in the summer. Last year we went on Memorial Day and you're right, it's never been busy. That's kind of my point.
  2. We're not getting a custom coaster... It would be such a waste of money at this park since most of the time it would just run half-empty trains. I want one, but it's probably not happening. They should stick to family rides, water park expansions and additions and an occasional relocated coaster.
  3. Yes... if they scrapped them all (as they should), melted them down and then used the recycled steel to build a B&M coaster that didn't suck.
  4. No they don't... they just got a giga coaster last year, this year they're getting a huge waterpark expansion, new interactive ride and possibly a Top Scan. Carowinds doesn't need anything right now. You people are being beyond ridiculous. This idea is awful. The ride needs to be AT LEAST 3 minutes and 13 seconds long and the speed should be no more than 79 MPH. Otherwise I'll boycott the park forever. PS: When did this become the Darien Lake thread?
  5. Since you bring up how much we all miss Knoebels I really wish they did a Christmas event... normally I wouldn't bother with a Christmas event unless they had some coasters running but even if all the coasters were closed it would still be worth the trip to Knoebels (and honestly Impulse could probably run).
  6. Except for Hulk which I don't really get this is my list exactly but maybe with a little more emphasis on Montu because in the back seat... Wtf???? (In a good way) Lol
  7. If they're adding dates and willing to invest more money in staff and operations for an additional day then that tells me the event must be successful so far. If it wasn't, why would they do it? Great news!
  8. Green Lantern is probably my least favorite B&M coaster anywhere. I absolutely hate that ride. I'll say this though... body type and height matter more on standup coasters than on any other coaster type. That alone probably explains the differing reviews (basically it separates the people that wish it would burn in coaster hell from the people who only mildly dislike it ).
  9. I think the fact that we were in the park from open to close with only 4 major outdoor coasters running and we still didn't ride Green Lantern or even acknowledge it's existence is all you need to know about how much I hate that ride. They need to send that piece of crap to another park (Six Flags St. Louis?) and give it the Rougarou treatment.
  10. Nemesis and the Bayside Sky Ride at Sea World San Diego. ... I could die happy on that thing.
  11. That doesn't seem to be a current picture. The webcams don't show any snow.
  12. Oh god I could write an encyclopedia on this (I'm a nerd... not sure if you guys knew). Generally speaking each coaster type seems to be the same across the board with a few exceptions here and there. For example: B&M Hypers: Back ...especially on Apollo's Chariot. In any seat but the back Apollo is mediocre but it's awesome in the back. Intimidator at Carowinds may be a front seat ride because of the sensation of speed since the ride itself is so damn forceless. B&M Giga's: Front But Fury is mind blowingly awesome in every seat. B&M Floorless: Back. On Dominator at Kings Dominion this is especially true. It rips down the drop with great ferocity and has awesome hang time in the loop. B&M Inverts: Front The exceptions here are the 2 large old-school inverts with pretzel loops, Montu and Afterburn. Both coasters take those elements at ridiculous speeds in the back. Montu seems like it defies physics by not killing everyone on the train with the speed it takes that thing yet somehow it's butter smooth B&M Wing Coasters: Front B&M Flyers: Front Especially when it's hot out and the people in front of you remove flip flops. In the front you don't have people's feet in your face. Vekoma GIB's: Front Most are still good everywhere except for Goliath which thanks to it's new train is horrendous in ever seat but the front. Any rough, 2 bench woodie with a PTC train: Front... leaning forwards, this works wonders on Mean Streak. Any wood coaster (PTC or Intamin) with 3 bench trains: Last car, Middle Row Exceptions are Thunderhawk at Dorney which is best in row 2 of car 1 and the SFNE Thunderbolt and Knoebels Phoenix where none of this applies because they're constantly running flawlessly in every single seat on the train. The back car, middle seat rule works best on El Toro, Wild One at SFA and Blue Streak at Cedar Point as the last 2 can be slightly rough in wheel seats Any Intamin Rocket Coaster: Front As for individual coasters, the ones that really come to mind where there's a big difference are... Kumba - Back row, far right seat I can't stress this enough. The Beast at night - front seat Steel Force - front seat This ride is a complete snooze fest everywhere else. Seriously. Kingda Ka - Front seat Montu - Back seat Mean Streak - Front seat leaning forward Apollo's Chariot - Back seat Thunderhead - Front seat Superman Ride of Bizarro the Ride or Whatever - Front seat Magnum Xl 200 - Car 1, Seat 3 Millennium Force - Front seat and okay fine... Poinsettia Peak - Back Seat ... I'm a nerd giggity
  13. You can slap the hell out of the ground on Kumba's helix. Kumba's even more intense in that department (no seriously I did that this year, I assumed the close proximity to the ground was an optical illusion like most headchoppers but it turns out it's actually about a foot away. I'm a dumbass). Also Kumba is greatness.
  14. Great report and photos! Preferred Parking? Look out we've got a one percenter on the forums lol. Jk
  15. To each his own but I'm pretty sure that Kumb'a brake run is more intense than anything Nitro does.
  16. I used to think Kumba blew every other B&M away in the intensity department but after riding Montu in the back row I think it's right up there with it. Those 2 blow everything else away and I'm so jealous of BGT for having a 1-2 punch like that.
  17. This is what "really happened"... What "really happened" is that a kid stood up on a log flume, disobeyed park rules and therefore severely injured himself. What "really happened" was a very unfortunate and avoidable accident. What "really happened" is that at some point the concept of "unfortunate accidents" went away in this country because all anyone ever wants to do is blame someone else for the things that they do. Guess what... sometimes people do stupid things, sometimes it's nobody's fault but their own. You don't always have to blame someone or sue someone. This is obviously the kid's fault. Hopefully he comes out of this okay and hopefully he learns from it. Period... the end. Unfortunately this woman wants to let everyone know what "really happened" and blame someone else because that's all anyone wants to do any more. People suck.
  18. Ugh, I really wish this park would give this ride the re-tracking it deserves. If they would remove the Trims and re-track it it would be EASILY the best coaster in the park. It offers ejector air in the front car at the top of the turnaround (yes... I said ejector. Ride it in row 2 and you'll see) and used to offer other great pops of air throughout the course before it was neutered by trims. About 10 years ago this thing was really flying and running great, I wish they'd maintain it properly. Of course this pipe dream is entirely unrealistic though, removing the trims would require them to re-track it even more than they do now and they already can't keep up with it. It's sad though... I love Dorney but the coaster lineup (while pretty good) is nothing amazing, especially since they removed Laser which was arguably the best coaster they had. This coaster could be an absolute gem if properly maintained but sadly that will never happen.
  19. Dollywood's Christmas event (which is an overwhelming success) is much the same way. On most days the place is very busy but coaster lines are generally not very long. Firechaser usually has a long line because it's a family coaster and Mystery Mine generally has a bit of a line because of it's capacity (and because it's awesome) but Thunderhead (always 1 train at Christmas), Tennessee Tornado (always 1 train at Christmas) and Wild Eagle (Generally 2 trains) are generally between a 10 minute wait and a walk-on. Great Adventure is much the same way but it's not like there are plenty of people riding the coasters. They're still generally filling trains even on slow days and on Friday Great Adventure apparently had 25, 35 and even 45 minute waits for coasters. I really hope this event is successful and they continue to do it though because it's really great. From what I've seen though it seems like they're doing really well, especially for their first year. Food lines, stores and things that make the park money are always busy during this event.
  20. Now they just call over to Windseeker and ask to borrow their instruction manual and their cool new yellow platform.
  21. Both rides are terrible but I think Green Lantern might be worse just because it's longer and the suffering seems like it never ends.
  22. Have fun! And come back next year to ride El Toro.
  23. I don't know that if count those last 2 as kiddy coasters but I agree that they're both very good. Anyway... Rest in Peace High Speed Thrill Coaster.
