  1. Yeah I'd never cared about this event before but now that the rides are open we're planning on completely overdosing on Great Adventure and going tomorrow, next weekend and for the opening of Holiday in the Park. A day of drinking, a safari with more drinking in the middle of it and then getting our last rides on El Toro, Zumanjaro, Bizarro and Kingda Ka and skyway sounds pretty damn perfect.
  2. Awesome! Any insight as to whether it actually needs to be a Great Adventure pass or if it can be any Six Flags pass valid at Great Adventure? Our memberships (believe it or not) are from Magic Mountain.
  3. A 30 year lease? Wow... Somebody was being a little too optimistic.
  4. This really depends. The erection process can be more difficult for some than it is for others. It's nothing any one manufacturer should be ashamed of though.
  5. I agree with the consensus that you shouldn't be allowed to return to the line once you leave no matter what. The only exception I would make is for a historically long, opening day style line that greatly exceeds anything that would ever be considered normal. For example, we waited (because we're idiots) 5 hours for Safari Off Road Adventure on its opening day. Security was letting people leave and go to the bathroom in that case or bring back good for the group but they were only letting one person from each group leave at a time so they didn't go ride other rides or abuse the privilege. In that case I thought it was appropriate and a nice gesture by the park.
  6. It sounds like Golden Kingdom and everything past the boardwalk will be closed, which is totally reasonable as far as I'm concerned. I highly doubt any coasters not in the boardwalk, lakefront or Movie Town will run and again... That's fine by me. I'm thrilled to be able to ride Nitro, Skull Mountain, Superman, Dark Knight and Batman in the winter.
  7. Great video! I'd love to see more trip reports like that. Glad you had fun.
  8. ^ Honestly even with a terrible crew a 3 train floorless coaster would have to work really hard not to hit a million riders. It's up-time has to be near 100% and it could theoretically put through a ton of trains. The Superman numbers are impressive though, I wouldn't expect that from a 2 train flyer in a Six Flags park where it's generally not going to be properly staffed. Hey Ryan, can I dork out for a minute? Any idea what the Skyway numbers are? I would think it would have to be over a million... Cedar Point always is and I'm curious how the Great Adventure numbers stack up. On one hand, Cedar Point sends out cabins at a much faster clip and has people at catch, unload load and trip as opposed to one person for catch and unload and one person at load and trip and that ride doesn't need to be tripped manually. On the other hand Great Adventure has 2 cables and goes down for weather much less often so I've always been curious to know how they compared.
  9. When we were riding Downdraft at Knoebels all I could think about was how great it would be to have one of those in my back yard. I love that thing.
  10. I just want to know where this company went wrong... I mean, they built Montu. They built Kumba. Why would they have ever worried about that waste of a hill would need a trim when they didn't use trims before some of the craziest elements ever built on those 2 coasters? 2 coasters (BTW) that are still smoother than Hydra despite those ridiculous forces (Not that I'd call Hydra rough).
  11. Maybe capacity-wise, but overall Goliath says hi.
  12. Boldikus nailed it. Kingda Ka is unreliable but it's very unlikely that it would ever be closed for a whole day...generally it's just up and down a lot throughout the day. Despite the line you absolutely 100% have to ride in the front. Kingda Ka in row 1 is a mind blowing experience.
  13. But seriously, your opinion is bad and you should feel bad. Except the rapids rides part... those are stupid.
  14. Wow, I felt like I was reading my own trip report there. I agree with basically everything you said. I'd kill for a front seat line on Goliath, or the old train which provided amazing rides in every seat but I guess that's too much to ask.
  15. Since you mention the "Last Day of the Season" thing, is anyone else as confused by that as I am? With mild winters like they have in Charlotte and with 2 large parks within a few hours of Carowinds open for Christmas I can't figure out why they don't do a Christmas event. It seems like an obvious idea and I would think it would do very well.
  16. Thunderhawk has a few really nice pops of airtime, I just wish it wasn't running so badly lately.
  17. On second thought this really does open up some great possibilities. I can't wait for "Mockingjay Part 1: The Ride". Apparently it's just going to be a 3 hour line where people expect something to happen once they reach the end of it but instead they're just dumped off at the exit and have an overwhelming feeling that they've just wasted 3 hours of their time for nothing.
  18. Thank god, that queue seemed like a major liability. They always had multiple security guards with flashlights there at night helping people see and keeping an eye on things, it seemed like way more trouble than just giving in and adding some lights. Glad they finally came to their senses. Nice to see they're really fixing the park up and getting it in mid-season form a week before they close (well partially, lol).
  19. It's been inoperable for a few years, and yes... This does seem like a strange time to fix it. It sprays people in line with mist so it probably won't run for any of Holiday In the Park (it would probably freeze anyway) so basically after next week they'll probably drain it.
  20. I'm just surprised they think this franchise will have enough staying power to design an entire theme park after it. I enjoy it, it's great... but 5, 10 years from now will anyone care?
  21. It's great to see so many people singing Afterburn's praises. It's a tremendous coaster and it makes an awesome 1-2 punch with Fury.
  22. Ride it in the front, seriously. It's like night and day. Anyway for me, it's X2. I hate that thing... It's seriously one of the worst coasters I've ever ridden. We rode it when it was X in its opening year and hated it, then over ten years later we finally made it back to California and decided to try it again given the overwhelmingly positive reviews. Once again... one of the worst experiences I've ever had one a coaster. No other Arrow could ever dream of being this bad. Kill it with fire.
