ernierocker
With Epcot, I have noticed that it sometimes comes down to if you went to the park as a child. (Especially back in the 80's) Candace preferred the World Showcase over the Future World section, while I could spend 2 days in just the Future World section alone. Even though I only went twice back then, I still associate Epcot with my childhood because it had such an impact on me.
YoshiFan
I agree, Epcot is my 2nd favorite WDW park but I have a lot of great memories from past trips and the old rides which are no longer there. I think if I had visited the park for the first time in the past few years I wouldn't like it as much.
HPComet
Damn, either you didn't mention a lot or you missed a lot. Just wondering, what did you do at Animal Kingdom other then everest, there's plenty to do other then that, at least more then 3.5 hours worth, but I guess if you were in a hurry. Then what about Toy Story Mania at MGM, or Lights, Motors, Action, those are the two newest attractions and a few of the best ones in all of Disney. Then what about Soarin', Mission Space, Nemo, or Illuminations at Epcot.
hyyyper
Damn, either you didn't mention a lot or you missed a lot. Then what about Soarin', Mission Space, Nemo, or Illuminations at Epcot. I guess a bit of both, I didn't mention every ride in EPCOT we rode, to be honest, I can't remember all the rides. But it was the last park in a 2-day-4-parks bash and it was 95 degrees. For a dutchman, that's really hot. So we basically had to make hard decision about what to ride and what not to ride. After queing up for Test Track and SpaceShip Earth, we were kinda disappointed with what we'd been queueing all this time for. We did Mission Space after that, and it also didn't deliver. Then we made the desicion that EPCOT just wasn't the park for us, and if we headed out early, we might catch some sleep to be fit for IOA and USF, which are parks more to our liking. Just wondering, what did you do at Animal Kingdom other then everest, there's plenty to do other then that, at least more then 3.5 hours worth, but I guess if you were in a hurry. Dinosaur, and we went to Camp Mickey. We were indeed in a hurry, a quick glimpse at the parks tells you that most of the rides to our liking were in Magic Kingdom and Studios. We had no idea how much of a difference there was, so we had to make some hard desicions on when to leave for the next park. I'm glad we made the right decisions and rode everything I really really really wanted to ride. Then what about Toy Story Mania at MGM, or Lights, Motors, Action, those are the two newest attractions and a few of the best ones in all of Disney. I'm not into Toy Story, and the Buzz Lightyear at Magic Kingdom was fun enough to skip Mania. Lights,Motors,Action is (almost) the same as Paris, so instead we went on Indiana Jones and the backlot tour To summarize it all. I wanted to get in all the rides I like for the least amount of money. That means doing two parks a day and lay aside the rides that don't look interesting. When I grow up and get my life settled, I know I will go back and perhaps spend 2 day at each park or something.

hyyyper
hyyyper goes to the USA Florida Day 9 - August 5 Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Today was the last day of the Florida Trip and we closed it with a blast: Island of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida. We came prepared, express plus passes granted us entry to a lot of rides and we were so glad we bought those passes. We started with IOA because it had the most coasters and we wanted to get it out of the way first. At random we went clock-wise and rode Hulk. The ride has a great start and a kick-ass ending. But whoever came up with the idea of that corkscrew-lead-in should be kicked, kicked real hard. That was only part of the ride that didn't make sense to me at all. But the rest of the ride was amazing. I especially loved the Bonus Loop, and all the other elements were amazing too. I just hope B&M sees the light some time and builds more launches or teams up with a company that is doing the launches for them. After Hulk we did the drops towers, which were very much like a drop tower, as I'd expected. The rush never changes, how much I'd like there to be another factor, the only thing that make drop towers more fun is the increase of height and with that the duration of the drop and gained speed. So after having ridden Australia's 'Gaint Drop' with it's 390 feet, everything basically fades away. Next up was Spiderman, from what I was told it was easily the best dark around and couldn't agree more. You were taken into the scenes themselves, even forgetting the car and the restraints around you. If in the future, 3D techniques and CGI improve I am expecting a lot from these kind of rides. Still amazed from the Spiderman ride, we walked upto the Jurassic Park area and rode the River Adventure. The ride really impressed me, not only the enourmous drop at the end, but also the theming around it and the scenic tour in the beginning. Luckaly we didn't get very wet, and more important, neither did any of the electronics. We decided to get some food and the Dino Center of whatever the center is called this era, the more important thing is that they had cheeseburgers. As we left the Jurrasic Park area we walked toward Dueling Dragons, which were hidden away in a far corner because of the damn Harry Pooter construction. The station was amazing to walk trough, and when finally arriving to the loading platforms I was stunned by the detail of the dragon-trains. It makes you wonder why other park don't take that extra step. Both sides of the coaster are good. Fire let me down a bit, but Ice totaly made up for it. I can see Ice as a stand-alone coaster, whereas Fire would be still a decent ride, but not as good as many other single B&Ms. Due to extremely slow Ice-operations I only got one duel-ride and it was amazing. I surely didn't expect that dueling would increase the rush you already got by the ride itself. The train flying next to, under, towards and twist over you was a sensation unkown to me. Just before we headed out for Studios, we got into Poseidon, a show/walktrough that was mostly fun to experience because of the original approach and execution. Although the duel was lame, the theming and other effect and live actor were very well put up and executed. BTW, a quick apology to all who are trying to read this, I type withou any plan and I can see from here that this text is getting very long, sorry. With still half a day left we walked out of Island of Adventure, re-riding was useless with the one-time-use-express-passes and high crowds. We entered Universal Studios and headed straight for the credit: The Mummy. I loved the ride, the effects were amazing, I won't give any of them away, but they were amazing. As I don't want to spoil cool effects of the Mummy I'll move on to Disaster Movies. I laughted my ass off, totaly, the way Christopher Walken acts as director is hilarious. The tailer of "Motha Nature" came out great at the end, with all the sequences put in. Our next ride was one of my favorites of the day (among many) and by far the best shooting ride I've ever been on: Men In Black Alien Attack. The way the car moves and targets are set up is very good and I really enjoyed the ride that much that my dad got the head start. But as always I won at the end. After busting some alien ass, we express-passed Simpsons The Ride, which was allmost like a real queue, and 30 minutes. Imagine standing in the standy-queue with it's 2 hour wait on a 93 degree day. The ride itself was the best motion simulator I've ever done. Since I have zero experience with Back to the Future (although I noticed the up-sweeping DeLorean doors) I couldn't tell in how far the ride has (or hasn't) changed. To me it was one hell of a ride, to bad they had to get ride of BTTF for it, because I would have loved to ride that also. The last order of the day would be the Terminator2:3D or Terminator3:2D, I'm not sure anymore. Altough the attraction suffered from serious continuity issues, the switching between live actors and 3D-screen action was allmost spotless and amazing to watch. Terminator is typically a Universal attraction, not just putting down a ride and letting guests enjoy it, but improving it, adding elementes, mixing it with other types of shows/rides. Simply amazing. We ending our day with cheeseburger at the local Hard Rock Cafe, drove back to the hotel and prepared for the my dad's return trip to the Netherlands and my first TPR trip. I want to thank everybody for reading and commenting on the Florida part of my PhotoTrip. That chapter is now closed. And me and my dad had an awesome time over there and made up for some dearly missed quality time. If you're a floridan, your home state rocks! The next updates will be featuring the actual EastCoast Tour, the main reason for me getting to the US in the first place. Now here's for some IOA/USF pictures! I end this part of the trip with a beautifull night-shot of Hulk. Thank you for reading my Florida Trip. Stay tuned for more CoasterPorn in the EastCoastTour Photo TR. Our cheeseburger-provider of the day: Hard Rock Cafe Orlando Obligatory globe shot Yup were at USF, in case you forget those kind of things. The shooting ride itself reminded me a bit of the training sequence of the MIB-movie. To bad there were no innocent schoolgirls. The flatspin section is beautifull to see when the trains are speeding trough it and twisting around eachother. Pictures totaly fail to catch that moment. Another reason why I love Universal. Going that extra mile to make their rides stand out. For some reason I forgot to take the signature shot, so you'll just have to settle for this. It's an amazing job B&M pulled off with Dueling Dragons. The precision down to tenths of seconds with only 3 feet between the train. Damn Three train operation? With ease the best darkride in the world. Bonus Loop ! Happy riders on Hulk The entrance to one of the greatest parks awaits you (after you walk a mile from the parking lot). alpengeist04
^That's a fantastic shot of the Hulk. Overall, all your photo TRs were great. I also like how you saved the best for last, IOA and USF. I also appreciate the love for Dueling Dragons, it's my #3 favorite steel coaster. I personally like the front on Ice and the back on Fire. sugart
Nice photos. The 3 train op got me at first, even though I know its impossible. The train coming out of the launch and the first section of cobra roll are a really good photoshop. I think Universal itself actually came up the algorithm that times DD. Still extremely impressive none the less.
cinciDAWGS12
Well if you think Spidy is the best dark ride then you clearly haven't been Disneyland California and rode Indiana Jones. That is the best dark ride IMO. Anyway cool pictures, I love the night shot of Hulk!
hyyyper
hyyyper goes to the USA East Coast Day 1 - August 7 Sesame Place and Coney Island I'm skipping August 6th because I haven't got any pictures of that day, and basically nothing important happened. So, Day 1 of the trip. For the ones who arrived early, or even the day before, we had the possibility to go to Sesame Place. Instead of trying to get some sleep I desperately needed, I joined the early-gang to the park. As I expected, Sesame Place was not a great park for people like us, but I just beats hanging out in the hotel. That doesn't automatically mean we didn't have a fun time (which we certainly did). It was fun to see that they placed four people on a vekoma roller-skater, while back at Toverland, you operate this coaster *alone*. The rest of the park was really aimed to kids, so basically, the group I went with, just chilled out, got some food (cheeseburgers), and took it easy. I don't think I'd ever go back to Sesame if I didn't had any kids to bring with me, but like I said before, I beat hanging out in the lobby. When we got back to the hotel and got everybody else, we officially started the tour by christening Bus 54 the "Studio 54-Party Bus" and headed out for New York City. During the drive to Coney Island we got some nice (and odd) views of Manhattan and the Brooklyn 'hoods'. When we arrived I finally could set straight the unrightfullness that was done to me in september last year (I went to Coney Island and it was closed) and get my ride on the Cyclone. My first ride was on the 2nd seat of the rear car and, although being rough, it wasn't 'that bad'. But, unfortunately for my knees, my mind wanted to know what the backseat was like and boy, that wasn't normal anymore. You are basically slammed in the lapbar on the first drop. I had to open my mouth to keep my teeth from hammering into each other. I was really glad that they had put in enormous cushions. And when you step out of the coaster it's strange to realise that the Cyclone has been standing there for 81 years. And the damn thing's still running. The rest of the Coney Island area is hard to describe, I think the words 'odd', 'unusual' and 'ghetto' pretty much cover it. The drop tower was the first one I rode where there's not waiting at the top. As soon as you hear that the car has reached the highest point, it is immediate followed by the disengagement of the car. So despite it being one of the smallest drop towers, it sure is one of the best. WonderWheel was also an odd experience. Who puts moving cars on a ferris wheel? Crazy New Yorkers. Anyways, our group didn't have a clue what would happen and when the car started to move, we were frightened. The only guarantee that we had was the other people seemed to come off of it more or less alive. So after walked the boardwalk for a bit and amusing myself with the strangeness on the Island, I got myself some Nathan's and two I-Love-N-Y tees for my sisters only to see that there were only 2 minutes left before the bus departed. Not wanting to because the next Tony, I ran to the bus, which was kinda unnecessary, there were still 12 minutes before it would be time to depart. On our drive to next hotel, we drove trough a wonderfull lit Manhattan and all I could think of was "This is day one, we still got 11 days of coaster-mayhem awaiting us". That's it for Day 1. Thank you for reading. Priceless expressions. Riders on Cyclone. Let's just hope they survive this time. Another panorama. This shot is composed of two pictures that were taken during two separate cycles on the WonderWheel. I'm suprised it came out this good. What to do with wide-screen-panorama's? Splitscreen them over your computer-desktops! Manhattan looking awesome from the fearsome WonderWheel Riders on a coaster, but I forgot it's name. You look happy wait. Just wait untill the car starts moving.... Yay, I'm going to be on television! The dragon coaster. Original name I might add. Beautifull shot of the ancient boardwalk Ghetto..? Nooo... WHORES ! Kinda hard to image this is 81 years old. That's almost as old as Jeff Johnson! Cyclone...apparently that's the name of this fine coaster. Cyclone, the grandpa of coasters The statue of Lib-blur-ty Manhattan. It took me be 5 tries to get this picture without a pole or truck blocking the view. (Kerry, I'm sorry if I scared you with my anger and frustration). This one goes out to PrawgDawg Normally, the picture would be described by 'certain people' people as 'rubbish'. But because the phrase "Star Wars" appears in it, this picture is 'good'. While Olivier is checking out a dude with a camera, Brandon is making sure the roof is not falling down, Dave is staring with great awe into the on-ride camera and Jahan is afraid of the chick in the car behind him. Happy riders on Vapor Trail Vapor trail....your friendly neighbourhood vekoma rollerskater. Although the dutch big-bird is called Pino and is blue, this place surely brought back some memories
Dragon Khan
Dunno if it has been said already, but there MUST be something with the Dutch and their talent in photoshooting... hyyyper
hyyyper goes to the USA East Coast Day 2 - August 8 Six Flags New England, Quassy and Lake Compounce Because the last night was a late night, we started off easy... Huh? Easy? Like hell we didn't. The entire trip was packed with morning, evening and night ERT by the wonderful R&E. Which meant that everybody was desperately trying to get some sleep in the bus while we headed out to Six Flags New England. The morning-ERT of today started with the SLC, (Mind Eraser, I think) and after getting my headache from the lack of sleep worsened by some great dutch craftsmanship (cough), the nice park opened up The Dark Knight. Now, don't be mistaken, I'm talking about Cool-B&M-Floorless-Dark-Knight, not Dull-Mack-WildMouse-Dark-Knight. And I was really surprised by how awesome the ride is. It might be small, but it has all the elements to make the ride super. The Zero-G-Roll is perfect, and the track interaction is really cool. One of my favorites on the trip, for sure. When we got tired of Dark Knight (well, we didn't actually get tired of it, but it was time to go) we headed out to a ride placed slightly higher in the rankings, around #1. Superman: Ride of Steel was an awesome ride, filled with speed, tunnels and most importantly: airtime. It felt the way an Intamin should feel, and you thank the lapbars for holding you in your seat. Of course there are those section where it slow down a bit or just does nothing, but that is greatly outweigh by the enormous amount of airtime. After we got ourselves some Superman love, the awesome park gave us the opportunity to grab some ERT on some waterpark slides. We broke the watercoaster 3 times or something, which isn't that bad, because it's a bingo square for the Elissa Photo-Bingo. But, me being smart, I didn't take my camera to the waterpark, and I fell behind on the game against the ones who did bring their camera. Anyways, the slides were really cool. The Netherlands is usually cold and no waterpark would gain any profits so I was amazed what you all can do with slides. One of my favorites was the Inclined-Toilet-Bowl. It's basically a slide that drops you into a funnel that is laying on it's long side, and you sort of half-pipe your way trough the funnel. When we were pretty did everything in the waterpark, we walked slowly towards to picnic area, and take some shots of the park on the way to it. At least, that was the plan, we ran into Robb and we got on the PG-13 Kiddie, Catwoman's Whip. The lunch was very good, and not the food alone. While I was eating my way trough several burgers we played bingo. Although I didn't win anything, it was just as amusing seeing other people win crappy stuff. After the crappy bingo prizes we had the opportunity to ask question to some important people, but I totally forgot who they were and what their function was. Filled with lunch, we headed towards to busses to pay Quassy a visit. When we got to the park the weather threw a punch at us and the park closed down the Mad Mouse, a coaster that was barely standing under the stress of it's own weight. So we had no choice but to ride the kiddie, which barely survived several TPR-takeovers. Thankfully the weather clear a bit and Robb arranged that everybody could get the Mouse credit. The ride itself was actually very cool, I think mostly because it pulls G's regular Mouse-coasters in regular parks only dream of. In short, Quassy was a nice place to stop by, but don't plan of spending more than 2 hours over there, except if you're broke or don't like coasters at all. The last park of the day was Lake Compounce. It was well hidden in a valley, but the park is really awesome. It has a nice selection of rides, but a little short on coasters. Two woodies, a boomerang and a kiddie. My group started out with Boulder Dash, which was an incredible ride. GCI reworked the entire track, banking and at some points entire hills. It was running like hell during the day and the ride overtook Troy in my ranking without any problems. Next up we rode Wildcat, which was horrible on a wheel seat, but OK when not getting your spine crushed above a wheel. Before the actual ERT would start, I had a great time in the park. Got all the credits in because the friendly park opened up the kiddie for us! The boomerang was quite smooth (for a boomerang!) and the car were painted with an iridescent coating, which was one of the coolest things you can do to a coaster car. The drop tower in the dark was very cool, you basically hung in the dark, and the sensation of the drop was amplified by the darkness surrounding you. But, finally, it was time for the most crazy ERT on the trip. As I told you before, Boulder Dash was running like hell during the day. I don't know if there's something beyond hell, but if there is, it'll be like riding an untrimmed, GCI'ed, warmed-up Boulder Dash during the night. It is hard to describe the awesomeness of speeding trough the dark forest and being launched into the lap bar at every hill. Boulder Dash even has a hill with two ejector air spots! Also props to the operators, they did a pretty good job surviving with 82 of your random Coaster Enthusiasts going nuts. So Six Flags New England was cool, Quassy was a fun speed bump, and Lake Compounce was amazing, onto the pictures! Kristen ride something....no. Elissa rides something...no. Elissa's Mom rides something...Yes, that's a Bingo Square! Unacceptable Amount of Wetness SFNE's approach to 'Keep out of water' signs. Speed slides, if I didn't have to climb all those stairs each time, they would be my favorite slides. The watercoaster basically consisted of drops and conveyorbelt-lifthills. I prefer Yellow-Pink over Orange-Blue. Oh, and in the background you can see the watercoaster. Hmmm..the park's still empty, let's go to the waterpark. Look, there's Jesus in the 2nd to last row! GARY! party pooper. Now who is that person not putting his hands in the air? Let's take a closer look Wow, this pic came out great. Look at all the different expressions. There comes the train. Robb videotapes something. Bingo! Richard praying....uhh...that's no bingo square! Did you ever wonder how weightlessness looks like? Extreme Zooom Aah..that's more like it. Why are you happy? You're about to get SLC'ed! ...but it didn't came free, we had to ride some SCL-terror first. Airtime awaits us... A picture of Hanno taking a picture. Bingo Square! We are here, Six Flags New England. Now give us ERT!
hyyyper
Part 2 Not only did Boulder Dash get the old Hershey Wildcat trains, they also outfitted them with hyperdrives! Airwtiwme FOREST, DO NOT EAT THE WOODEN COASTER! But there it goes again...and boy does it go. Untill Robb brakes the coaster! But I'll make it up with cool Boulder Dash shots! Hey wait, we are in Lake Compounce already? Yes, my bad, I forgot to take an entrance shot. Hanno used to be a fish. That or he still is a fish. Mommy, do I 'have' to ride this derelict piece of scrapmetal? Ooooh myyyy go-o-o-o-od Like we care. We are whores, bitches! Hmmm..this doesn't look very healthy. freaky Waiting for the weather to improve. But what's going on in that line? How many G's, Marcus? Welcome to Quassy. Have a great two hours! In the background: a droptower. In he foreground: Chris getting ready to smack Drew. ROBB DO NOT EA....oh, who am I kidding? In case you forgot the name of the coaster. You know, just in case. Riders enjoying (h)airtime. Let's build an Indoor Coaster. No, why don't we build a football field with golf course instead? If train wore skirts, this would be an upskirt shot. Now you see why the kiddie is PG-13 Damn, the train is to long to fit in the picture. The Blair Witch Coaster. The sign. At night. Now that's a cool train! Wheelseats should be banned on old woodies. philthephorce
I wish I could get back to the "Blair Witch Coaster." I was just telling my father about it tonight, during the football game. Do you think that was annoying to him?! Hahaha! Bas, these pics absolutely rock...even if I'm only in 1 pic making a weird squinting face (Mad Mouse at Quassy, waiting for it to reopen) LOL Edit: I forgot to mention my surprise that you didn't include the wheel-off-the-track-as-proof-of-extremeness-of-airtime shot of S:ROS. hyyyper
^That queue shot was classic, I didn't really notice what was going on untill I was looking at the picture just before uploading. KerryB
Bas, Great update!!! I just got completely caught up with your TR from the start of the ECT. And no, you didn't scare me with your attempts at getting the pic of Manhattan!!! (It was just a warning of the photo taking intensity to come! ) Fantastic photos...I look forward to the rest of them. The trio day of the truly super Superman, Speed Bump, and Boulder Dash's homefront was one of the absolute best days of the trip. I remember being really shocked at how much we did in that one day...and then thinking how cool it was that it was still just the start of the trip! I wish we were just heading out to Coney tomorrow!!
HerBlackWings
Wow, Hanno might have some competition!! philthephorce
Hanno probably doesn't realize this but he has a similar shot in his trip report. Of course, he was taking pics of people *on* the ride, but I still noticed, eh hem, the gap. Look closely and you'll see... Actually, I just looked at his thread again, and someone else noticed it too.
Hhappy
^ there was a reason for me to zoom in a little more.. i did see that i captured the weel getting of the track.. just thought i'd say airtime and people would notice it by them self... is more fun.. and if people don't see it.. well.. dan they don't care i guess...
