kcurry11
Finished the model, going to see if I can chop it up enough into enough pieces to print one, probably about a foot and a half tall. I will probably have to adjust all the tolerances, and that will come later.
GCI Wooden
Looks great! This is really an awesome utilization if the 3-D printer. Â Can't wait to see how Goliath turns out!
Intimidated305
That is absolutely amazing.
kcurry11
I just made up a desktop model of MF's hill, and am thinking of putting up if someone wants to buy the 3D model of it. Its about a foot long and 7 in tall.
Coaster Hero
I found out you can export .stl files from Blender which I believe can be 3D printed. If that's true, since Blender can basically act as a converter for any 3D model file, you can use whatever 3D modelling program you want to 3D print! I can't wait to try this on the 3D Printer at my school, I'll definitely post pictures when I have something done
Vigil
Yup! Stl files (stereolithography) are what most (if not all?) 3D printers use.
kcurry11
I am looking for a good section of track to model up to make a desktop model for, just something small. I just finished Fury's lift hill, and am looking for 3 of 4 more to make for myself. Anyone have any suggestions of a famous section of track? Cyrbuzz
What do those 3D printers cost?
kcurry11
Printers are pretty expensive. I use the one at my school. Personal can range from $350 for cheap ones to probably about $2000 for the good ones
Vigil
And even then those are still considered the consumer hobby ones. The more industrial ones that I am using (and that I imagine he is using as well) can be upwards of $20,000. I know my school has one that can print in bio-compatible material that was $200,000, and they just got one that was $750,000 that can print in a range of stiffnesses. Cyrbuzz
Wow that's some serious money there. I guess my chance to experience one of these personally is next to nill. Oh well, these still look pretty cool. I would love to see a complete circuit model sometime.
CoasterMateo
Any more progress on these models? They look awesome and I would be interested to see more progress!
kcurry11
I've been working on some small models of famous elements. I haven't printed any yet however. I am always looking for suggestions on what to draw up next!
Jerry Fleming
Would love to have a model of Magnum's pretzel! Gatekeeper's keyhole elements would be cool to see done!
Cj1990
Though I bet it would be really difficult, I'd love to see one 4D car on track. Like X2 for example.
Vigil
Your wish is my command. (Really, I just am done with school and have time again and am bored and need to get a job.) More to come!
Vigil
And another one. I figured out a way to take NoLimits track and make a model out of it, which makes things a lot easier. Here's Magnums turnaround (sans scaffolding supports because I haven't figured the best way to do it).

Here's Magnums turnaround (sans scaffolding supports because I haven't figured the best way to do it). Â Ooh nice! Did you use the "no-planks" version of the vekoma mine train track to imitate the chance track? It really is nice how you can customize the trackstyle so much. Vigil
Magnum is an Arrow hyper I just used the regular Arrow track.
sirloindude
Where did you get the dimensions for the track? I'm working on a class project right now and I'm trying to get the inner diameter of the rail tubes.
GoldMiner496
I know this thread is super old, but do you happen to still have the STL files for that Arrow loop? I have a 3d printer and want to try to print it.
