jedimaster1227
This weekend D23, the official Disney Fan Club hosted a two (technically three) day event rewinding history to provide an in-depth look at Disney Parks history, including an unprecedented look back at the New York 1964 World's Fair. No photography or videography was allowed during the event with the exception of offerings outside of panels. Special thanks to Orlando Attractions Magazine for providing the included interview footage, as well as looks at the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives exhibit and the Mickey's of Glendale pop-up shop. They're already playing to my fandom! Didja? Starjets were well represented here! Looks like a Nautic-jet from Wild- und Freizeitpark Klotten. This malnourished force was once a resident of World of Motion. He's happy not to be bacon. A recent transplant from the former Maelstrom attraction at Epcot. Anyone remember the marquee from Mr. Toad's Wild Ride at the Magic Kingdom Park? This piece used to be on it! Can I possibly survive? Albums from the 1964 World's Fair... Lots of well-preserved items from the Walt Disney Archives! Almost like you could've picked them up yesterday. Pristine condition! And so neat to look at! Mold-A-Rama machines were all the rage at the 1964 World's Fair. Lots of different collectible options from the machines at the fair. Presidents perhaps? How about some dinosaurs? They even had a restored, working Mold-a-Rama machine from the fair! So cool to see up close! The neat program given to guests at the event. The schedule for day one... And day two... Here were some of the goodies that guests received for attending the event... The Tower of the Four Winds from the entrance to it's a small world at the 1964 World's Fair was represented as a special pin. This neat stamp allows D23 users to access exclusive content for the next six months via their tablets by tapping the stamp against their tablet screen while logged into D23.com. Guests were also given a commemorative MagicBand. This one is definitely going on the shelf! Over in Mickey's of Glendale, I splurged on a lot of things I probably didn't need but couldn't resist buying! I couldn't resist buying this Horizons mural print. It was another must-have item! I bought all of these as well. I might have a problem. MUST HAVE! The last time I was in one of these, the ride was still operating in 1999. Didja? Another more recent addition to Walt Disney World history was Snow White's Scary Adventures. Didja? Stopped over at Kona Cafe during the event's lunch break for this awesome burger with spicy fried shrimp and brie on top! Another really neat element of the event was the revival of the fan-favorite WorldKey system from EPCOT Center. The Walt Disney Archives was able to find and restore the software that ran in EPCOT Center's Computer Central and WorldKey to allow guests to try it out once more for the weekend. It was a cool flashback, especially for those of us that never got the chance to try out the original. I loved playing around with the system! Commodore Amiga-level text graphics. Bit was the system's Mr. DNA, acting as a guide and a narrator as you navigated through the system to get information on park attractions, entertainment or to make dining reservations. Sadly, the system wouldn't let me set up a reservation for Le Cellier. So awesome! Fun Fact: The fantastic Tip Top Colada from the Top of the World Lounge at Bay Lake Tower can be made on request at The Wave Lounge in the Contemporary Resort. Time for Pleasure Island Rewind! [vine] [/vine][vine] [/vine] The Colonel commandeered the screen to introduce the return of the Adventurer's Club. I didn't see the show before it closed, so it was a first time experience for me. Pleasure Island Rewind also featured the return of the Comedy Warehouse. They have a great knack for hilarious improv comedy. [vine] [/vine] Time to start counting down to the New Year! [vine] [/vine][vine] [/vine] Time to start counting down to the New Year! I managed to catch a shirt thrown from the stage by DJ Elliott! It turns out that this was the last "Special Guest of the Night" shirt that was found in the inventory at Pleasure Island before it was cleared out. I'm so excited to add it to my collection! I had such a great time at the D23 Destination D: Attraction Rewind event this weekend. This event was further proof that D23 continues to be the premier source for Disney history and unique experiences for fans. I can't wait until the D23 Expo next August! Good news everyone! The Comedy Warehouse Holiday Special will be returning to Disney's Hollywood Studios starting next week for the busy holiday season! Be sure to go check them out! Jew
How much cleaning was required at the event because of you?
Nrthwnd
The whole setup and display is amazing! But what really surprised me, was the poster displayed for Snow White's Adventures. I have the exact same poster, framed upstairs, and mine was issued when the new Fantasyland debuted in Disneyland (1983). So DL's name is below "Fantasyland" instead of WDW. And ours is framed, upstairs. Very cool! The poster was offered through the then seasonal Disney News Magazine I got, year after year.
ernierocker
I remember my parents using this system to make a dining reservation during one of my early visits. I was so blown away that you could do that on a computer! Edited November 29, 2014 by ernierocker
