FLIPDUDE Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Hm... my first meaningful post here. event hough Ive been signed up for like a year now. As any respectable, yet lifeless coaster enthusiast does, I keep a list of all the rollercoaster I've been on. While updating it I found out that, aside from the fact I was on 77 coasters instead of the 78 I thought Ive been on(but oh well, I'm just 16, there's still time), I also discovered some conflicts. For example. what do I do about racing coasters? Do I consider them as one coaster or two? I would presume the normal answer would be to consider them as one, as they have basically the same layout and they go by the same name. But as for the "same layout" issue, coasters have replicas all over the world, yet you can't go on two boomerangs and list them as one coaster. As for the "going by the same name" issue, gwazi and stampida are coasters made of several - very different tracks, but under the same name, and surely those are considered different coasters? Also, often in racing coasters, either the tracks are mirror images, which means the layout IS, after all, different, or one side goes forward and one side goes backward, giving a completely different ride experience. I come across this problem in refference to Colossus, Rebel Yell, batman and robin the chiller and Gemini. Conflict 2 (yes, there's more): I was on space mountain before it was modified, should I go on it again, would it be considered a brand new coaster for the coaster count? Conflict 3: If you ride a coaster during a "fright fest" night, where they turn the coaster's cars backwards, will it be considered as a new coaster for the list? I mean, on one hand, it's the same coaster, but on the other hand, it's a brand new ride experience and it's basically a modification of the original ride. Conflict 4: Splash mountain in CA. While being on it, I noticed that after a drop, there is a very significant uphill slope. not a short one, either, implying the boat was riding on a solid track, not floating. It wasn't a lift, the boat was moving on strictly inertia. now, on RCDB you see plenty of log flumes that are considered water coasters simply because they have one uphill slope. should splash mountain be considered one? Conflict 5: If a coaster is moved from one park to another, and you go on it at both parks, is it considered two counts? I always figured it does untill Robb told Elissa in some video/photo that some coaster was moved, so it doesn't count.
rollermonkey Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Make your own rules. Everybody has different opinions as to what counts and what doesn't. I'm very generous to myself when counting, others find it rediculous what I'll count. Stick with your rules, unless you change your mind. Don't do this too much or you will start to get confused.
Guest Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 This is what I do. -Count moebius racers as 1. (Racer at KW and Grand National at BPPB) -I count dueling coasters as 2. (Lightning Racer at HP and Gwazi at BGT) -Anything modified I don't not count again. -I don't count it running backwards unless it does that in daily operations. (Rebel Yell at PKD.) -I do not count Splash Mountain as a water coaster. It's just a flume ride to me. You count it how you wish. -The last question is I don't count relocated coasters. Been on it once, no need to count it again if it's the same ride. However, if there are significant changes to the ride then I will re-count it. Most of the time they are not, so one less credit for me. I hope this helps your dilemma.

Is that a double negative or a typo? -As for the not counting it if it runs backwards unless it's in daily operation, that doesnt answer my question, because I was talking about when the ride USED to open one way, and then it started operating differently, like colossus on fright fest or indiana jones since 2000. -if you dont count reloacted coasters, how come you'd count being on a replica of a coaster in a different park than the one you were already on? I mean, same layout, same experience, no? assuming the theming isn't that different.

Ask anyone who's been on a lot of SLCs and they'll tell you that each one rides slightly differently.

Well, I've been on two boomerangs, big apple coasters, and canyon blaster style coasters, and I think they're prety much the same.
Carnage Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 ^ Then count them as one if you really want. This is all personal preference. If you don't think something should be counted, then don't count it. If I wanted to count a single coaster 32 times for sitting in every seat there's nothing stopping me from doing it. It'd be dumb yes, but I could do it if I really wanted to.
SharkTums Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 I'm not even getting into this debate...but...are you talking about Cop Car Chase at Movie Park Germany? That's not mobious.
Jeezus Juice Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 I'm jumping out of this thread early this time! The Sun Wheel is 16 Credits!!!!
CP_RULES Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Conflict 3: If you ride a coaster during a "fright fest" night, where they turn the coaster's cars backwards, will it be considered as a new coaster for the list? I mean, on one hand, it's the same coaster, but on the other hand, it's a brand new ride experience and it's basically a modification of the original ride. Why would you count that? No way I would count it just for that. Its still the same coaster, and not a new credit. Then again, if you wanted to, you could count it, but that'd be rediculous.
jamesdillaman Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 do whatever you want with your count. I count dueling coasters (like gwazi) as two rides, but racers (like gemini) that are basically the same ride count as one.
