Movieguy Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 I love big parks with numerous coasters as much as the next guy, but I love to, every once in a while, go to a smaller park and enjoy what that place has. I remember this past summer I got a lot of traveling in...some may remember my trip report to WDW this past July, complete with a few photos. Well, soon afterward in early August, I got to go to Kennywood Park with my family. I remembered most of the trip just being a refreshing break from the constant crowds and hustle and bustle of WDW, not to mention the sheer size of the place. Kennywood, on the other hand, is a park where you feel like you can just go and do as you please in a place where the land doesn't feel like it goes on for eternity...you can ride the Jack Rabbit, and walk away, and be at the Thunderbolt and Phantom's revenge in a matter of minutes...and lets not forget all the yummy food you can get there too. Another thing I like about Kennywood is that you're under no particular pressure to get to all the big profile rides...if you show up early, you can easily get on both Phantom and Thunderbolt, and then head back to go on Racer and Jack Rabbit, and then you can enjoy whatever other rides you want afterward. How about the rest of you all? Are there any smaller parks you enjoy going to as a break from those huge, busy parks everyone else goes to?
Rider117 Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 I like going to Lake Compounce and heading down to the shore and going to Morey's Piers in Wildwood.
CoasterJunkie Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 One of the reasons why I like Cypress Gardens....just a nice break from the crowds of people and tourists. Actually plan to go on Saturday
Meteornotes Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 One word: Knoebel's. Best park ever. I could go there and do nothing but ride the Phoenix a couple of times and eat some food, and have a great time. dt
Carnage Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Also Indiana Beach and Holiday World. I agree, the small parks can be just as much fun as the big ones, sometimes even more.
justin22025 Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 I love going to SFOG as much as I can, but I like to try to go to Wild Adventures and Lake Winnie at least once a year.
CoasterCrazy Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Knoebels is my favorite "small park"! Knoebels also has the best Pizza of any park that I have ever been to!
Movieguy Posted March 2, 2006 Author Posted March 2, 2006 wow...great old woodies, AND decent park pizza?... I've gotta get my rear-end down to Knoebels!
Reon Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Coney Island (Ohio). Nice little park thats never crowded, has some good old fashion flats, a credit, and a nice pool/water park. On top of that, its only $10 for a full day's visit. (and those bumper cars own. The floor is just TOO slippery.) I'm even thinking of getting a job there this summer as a ride op. (I doubt Kings Island would hire me now that they're switching companys *votes for Cedar Fair*)
YoshiFan Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 I like Morey's Piers and the 2 Ocean City, NJ parks (Playland's Castaway Cove and Gillian's Wonderland Pier). I like how none of those parks have a gate admission so you can just walk in, ride a few rides and just relax for a little bit and not have to worry about getting your money's worth of the admission, though Morey's does have a wristband option for the days when you want to ride as much as you can.
ParkTrips Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 IMHO Knoebels is overrated, but still pretty neat. I really liked Lake Compounce and Lake Winnepesaukah better, but small amusement parks are pretty cool to me 8)
Angry_Gumball Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Mine would have to be SCBB as it's the only small park I've technically gone to besides the local zoo that sports kiddie coasters and rides.
larrygator Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Knoebels, Indiana Beach and Kennywood are some of my favorite parks
USRoadTripper Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 I completely agree with Joe, that Lake Winnie and Lake Compounce are my two favorite too. I've never been on a more relaxing ride than the Compounce Mountain Sky Ride! -Julie
