verticalzero Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 What are your views on this type of coaster: Should anymore be built and if "yes" should they should be longer with more inversions (e.g. Stormrunner) etc, rather than have a inverted top hat and small camelhill with brakes on the other side.
Twister II Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 I've only have been on 2 ACCLERATOR coasters. Xcelerator and Dragster. I loved Xcelerator, more than Dragster. Kanonen looks hellishly fun, but think, if it were to just get a little bigger, with vertical drops, I but it would be a really thrilling ride!
coasterguy618 Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 I have been on two Accelrator coasters, Storm Runner and Kingda Ka. I like Kingda Ka alot better. I do not like the inversions on Storm Runner, except for the Flying Snake.......thing. Of course more should be built, but, they should be longer with more camel back hills and banked curves, no inversions.
DerekRx Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 I definitely think more should be built, and yes they should be longer, as every one currently is under a minute in duration. I don't really care if they have more inversions, tophats, bunny hills, trick track, dueling sections or strange S curves, as long as they're fun its all good.
Shockwave Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 One thing I'd like to see is higher capacity trains, with more seats or each train. There's so many possibilities to explore with these rides, it's only a matter of time before dreams become reality.
Gutterflower Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 It appears these rides can fill most niches with the launch just taking the place of the lift hill. With Loopers like Speeding Car, Speed Monster and Kannonen (sp?) and more hyper like layouts like Superman. while creating their own phallic catagory with Stealth, KK and TD. Intamin can pretty much tailor the ride to whatever a park wants. I'll bet we will be seeing lots more of these rides in all shapes and sizes. Id love to see a rocket with a traditional hyper layout after a tophat
V2-dude Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 They probably can't put more seats on the train because of the weight during launch.
mightypotato Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 I'll bet we will be seeing lots more of these rides in all shapes and sizes. Id love to see a rocket with a traditional hyper layout after a tophat I guess that's the ideal situation. You'd get a huge rush from the launch and top hat like TTD or KK, then an awesome hyper coaster ride like Superman. I can't imagine that being anything but fun. That and Intamin can really do no wrong. Matt "Intamin Fanboy" Bryane
Nick-Mac Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 I remember someone having a drawing of a rocket on the current dragster site when the ride was still speculation. The tophat veered the left onto MF island and had a coaster layout with a bunch of hills and stuff. I think CP was going for pure height and speed, it would have cost a crazy amount of $$$ to extend it like that, they would have had to make it a smaller tophat. So any rockets with extended layouts won't be that tall or fast (i mean strata-coaster/100+MPH) If that did happen, a major investment it would have to be since it was like 20-25 mil for just the basic launch, tophat, and brakes. I know Kingda ka was 25 mil., that was with just one extra hill,
eddie200330 Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 I have only ridden TTD and Storm Runner, and in my opinion Storm runner was much better. It was a memorable ride and I can still remember what happened. TTD was all over so quickly and even after 3 rides in a row I still really can't remember much about it!!! I guess if they are to build more of them, I agree with the fact that they need to be shorter(less than 200 ft) and contain more coaster experience like a double length Storm Runner. Albeit, there is nothing better than the slow climb to the top and the first rush down that first drop.......
coasterlover420 Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I believe Rocket Coasters are already becoming rather popular among parks. They are just becoming better and I think the fact that everyone likes the smaller ones better is because Intamin put more thought into the track layout then the strata coasters which they incorporated just to get extreme acceleration and go higher than everything else in the world. They are all built to incorporate a different experience into the ride and I personally love the 400+ coasters more, although I have only been on the two of them. My opinion will be whole this summer after I ride Xcelerator!! Yay!!
dougr Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I think rocket coasters have some big pluses. The launch saves time, so the ride can have a greater capacity. Patrons love the excitement of the launch. You can build a tall, light track that doesn't have to support the drive chain and the pull of a train. Your tall track can tower over the park near a main road-great advertising. A rocket launch could be a part of just about any coaster, I know a rocket launch would definately help Boomerang at Knott's
