lustate Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 So the UK season is about to start again but I was wondering what the USA view was on the maximum noise Alton Towers can create and the court action by the Roper family last year. Does anyone think this will open the floodgates to anyone who objects to living near a themepark trying to drive it out of business? How do you think it will be possible for the themepark industry to continue to further attractions if the noise must be no greater then a dishwasher on the lawn of the home of someone who complains? Also a one 3 fireworks displays a year and nothing in view to people who live localy to a theme park and no music louder then a family TV within the park. cheers rob
verticalzero Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 I knew someone would complain about the noise level's at at UK park, If you do not like noise why live next to a Theme Park, I blame the "Roper family" as they knew as soon as they bought their house the park will have some noise level. They want some attention.. Maybe Alton towers should offer them a "Season Ticket". I do think this may create some more local's to file noise complaints against parks. Thorpe Park are lucky to have their park in the middle of an old "Chalk Pit". They prob don't get many noise complaints
Ed Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 The Roper's actually moved in way before Alton Towers got popular. I could understand the whole noise issue if you could actually here it from outside the park.. You seriously can't hear Oblivion at the entrance! And their house is futher away.
DerekRx Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Yeah, sorry, but I have no simpathy for anyone who chooses to move near an amusement park, no matter how "small" they may seem. We've had this problem for years at Dorney Park with people yelling about the noise level, yet the park is guaranteed to have been there longer than they lived in their house nearby. Just because they weren't purchasing multi-million dollar scream machines back then doesn't mean they never will. And I love how the city council will always side with the citizens instead of the park, even though without the park, the tourism would drop dramatically, resulting in the city pretty much being wiped off the face of the earth as far as business is concerned. Britain really wants to be like its child, America, doesn't it? Let us know when they start making lawsuits about their hot coffee being hot or they got fat from eating too much fast food. PATH-e-tic
Shockwave Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 If you choose to buy a house next to amusement park I've got no sympathy for any consequences. What amazes me most about Alton Towers is how the locals main concern appears to be the noise of the rides, when surely a few thousand cars and a few hundred coaches thundering up and down the tiny roads would be much more of a noise concern! A lot of Drayton Manor's residents live even closer to the park than those around Alton Towers, so I can understand their concerns a little more.
Damien666 Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Oi, whenever you move somewhere you gotta know what is around it. Is it true that the Ropers own a Factory that is louder then Alton Towers itself? I only heard about one family complaining about noise from a park in the US and that was Indiana Beach. Apperently, whatever that family wanted the park to do, they didn't get their wish granted! If I was a judge I would tell the Ropers to move somewhere else and stop whining!
coasterdude5 Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 I know some people can't help it, shouldn't they look into these things when they move close to a park?
UberBeavis Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Maybe the parks should just mount some mortar cannons and blast any neighbors to dust... Maybe Matt needs to put down the bottle and get some sleep
Dave78 Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 The Ropers moved in before Alton Towers was a theme park, back when it was only the house and gardens and possibly a few small rides so it's not their fault. (in fact I believe they moved there for the house and gardens) I do thing they are being unreasonable because we city folk in London have to put up with more than just a few fireworks displays once a year and distant rumbles of a rollercoaster. I do understand it may be annoying if they moved ther for peace and quiet. Also the other locals around Alton have said that they disagree with the Ropers (less large events = less business) so it is actually a case of a minority causing trouble because they can't put up with some noise. Tmcdllr Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 This is like the people that move/live next to airports then complain about the noise.
verticalzero Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Why not have a house free Zone round the park, say 5 miles away This way the Park can build higher rides and Alton Towers would not be limited to below tree level.
paulosthejackal Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I think it is fairy short sighted to discuss this case of the Ropers here. I doubt any of us know anything like everything there is to know. They moved to Alton when it was a delightfull country house with gardens and perhaps a merry-go-round! It annoys me that this is happening but I don't think its fair to chastise them by name. This just reminds us all why it is so hard to put up rides in the UK. Planning is so tight supposedly to protect the Ropers.
Tmcdllr Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Yes it is fair to chastise complainers. CHASTISE-CHASTISE-CHASTISE away!!!
dougr Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I understand how they could be upset, but They live next to an amusement park! I mean "Waaaah, Waaah, we live next to a tourist attraction." The park should just buy them out.
Richard Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 their complaints are understandable, well they would be if you can actually hear Oblivion from Farley. I got bored once and went to farley while Oblivion was opperating, you can't hear a thing, maybe one or 2 clicks occasionally from the lift hill, but it's really silent. The thing that anoys me is that the ropers want the noise of oblivion to equal the sound of a small village at night time. That's just stupid, esspecially considering their factory makes much much much more noise. Due to them it no longer says "don't look down" at the top of the drop which kinda sucks. Alton have tried quietening it down abit more by doin something to the anti-roll backs which is alright. ontop of that the ropers have complained about the fireworks, which is 5 nights every year. Alton offered them £200 a night to go out during that time!!! (the show lasts about 1hour a night). And they turned that down and then after still complained about that noise. The court has forced alton to now reduce the firework show and to only have it on for ONE night. Which is a really bummer because Alton is extremely popular during teh fireworks and the last few years have threatened to turn people back because the park was too full. I can't imagine how packed it will be if they only have one firework show.
the sound Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 When i was at parc Asterix, i saw a farm right next to the Woodie. No-one has heard anything about that! And parc Asterix would be Noiseier!
BudtheWeiser Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 I like the way they moan about fireworks a couple of times a year,Down here in Brighton we have mega loud fireworks on the pier every saturday night in summer which we can hear and we are 5 miles away should I complain lol I will quite happily swap houses with them.
