I've found that the newest version of Firefox has a built in spell checker that automatically checks form fields when posting (similar to MS Word, as opposed to hitting a button on the toolbar). It's currently in beta (it's crashing a lot), but when a stable version is released, it might be an idea to add a link. Newer versions of other browsers may have similar features too.

If it's stable we'll post it. I know that I've never had a problem with the google spell checker and I highly reccomend their toolbar. At the moment, only 19% of the people who visit the site are using FireFox according to my webhost data, so I'm not sure I'd reccomend something that isn't so widely used, but we'll see.

Where is the rule about not posting in PTRs until they are finished? I saw that Colin was banned for doing that

There isn't a rule. It was a one-off thing. We posted once asking nicely for people to let Derek finish posting his pics before responding. And then someone responded. So we asked again for people to not respond until Derek was done. And then someone responded AGAIN! So finally I posted in BIG RED LETTERS out of total frustration to not respond until Derek was done. And then Colin responded. So I gave him a 24 hour ban (really 12 hour) for not listening or paying attention.

Do you see why we were all "WTF?!?!?" about it? We weren't trying to be mean, but when you ask something...politely...multiple times...and no one listens, what are we supposed to do?

I really don't think we were the "bad guys" in this situation.

If you have any further issues about that, PM me directly.

I feel the same way about people posting in the middle of your TRs. Some people seem to respond just because they know that they are posting in the middle of your TR! My most recent one was Julie's Alabama Credit Whoring Adventure with a subtitle of "A PHOTO TR IN THREE PARTS." Meaning clearly that there were gonna be three segments to the TR, and wouldn't you know that I had responses in between the three segments, eventhough I posted them within minutes of each other. Just wanted to voice my opinion that I find it really annoying also!

And I agree too! As someone who is pretty much doing a Photo Trip Report each week, as nice as it is to have people comment, I think it benefits everyone more if they keep their comments until the very end. Granted, some times I don't finish the report all at once if I'm still on the trip, but the majority of the time I wait until I'm home. It just looks nicer and seems to flow better for all readers if the entire report is on the first page, instead of scattered between 2 or 3 pages from people commenting. As many people as there are that like to comment and give compliments and such, there are many more lurkers who just enjoy the pictures, as is evident by how many times pictures are viewed.

Maybe the rule should be if you don't want people to comment, tell them to hold all questions, comments, and concerns until you give the go ahead after your final photos have been posted?

I'm glad to see other people felt my frustration. While it might have been a little harsh for me to ban someone, you also have to understand that it was after a really long 20 hour day with the set up, party, breakdown, and post-party Ryan abuse.

But I think a good suggestion would be, if you're making a Photo TR in parts, to add at the end of the first part or even on the caption of the last photo something to the effect of....

"I'm still posting more photos, please wait until I'm done to post your response."

And then you can always go edit that out of your post later.

Keep in mind that if someone DOES post inbetween your Trip Report, I'd be open to deleting that post if it's just a "hey, nice photos" response.

While I'm sure everyone wants to hear the great feedback, I'm sure more people would understand and appreciate a cohesive TR.

If room it might even work best to put something in the subject itself.

That way there is no way to miss it.

With an "INCOMPLETE" in the subject, and a "please don't post until further notice" comment right at the start of the post. That would be ovious enough that booting someone for a day would be well deserved.

It's good to see this addressed, as I've noticed this in many TRs that get really broken up to swarms of posts.

heh for some reason, I really don't mind, especially since usually my TR's are posted in stages. I mean even my most recent one took like 90 minutes to complete and I did it all at the same time... usually it takes me a day or two!

I will try to keep this in mind when reading future reports though. I can see where a "good job" post in the middle of pictures can be lame.

^ That's kind of why it should be an optional rule.

If I've got a huge TR that I know I'm not going to get done quickly I'd rather let people comment in between. Otherwise it would just sit there with no responses for days until I finished.

Which would probably hurt the TR just as much.

^ Agreed. Some of my TRs, I will post all at once. But the TRs from multiple days of a trip, usually I will wait a day or two in between sets of photos. In that case, I like having each day on a separate page...makes loading the TRs that much easier on those of us still living in the stone age with dialup.

I think it's a great idea to add some sort of request to not reply until it's all posted, especially for ones that are being posted all in one sitting.

4. Do NOT use "text message shorthand" - Use the proper English and complete spelling of words. Do not shorten "you" to "u", etc. You're not messaging on a cell phone, you're typing on a computer. You have a full sized keyboard in front of you - USE IT! (The most common uses like LOL, WTF, are ok....but none of this "l33tOMG111" whatever speak!)

THANK YOU ROBB! I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE USE THINGS LIKE "u", "hav", "yea", etc.

Robb,

Well..... I have a question to you Robb, just wondering about banning. I saw some people got banned ( to my great surprise my TPR friend 'wrebbit' ever get banned once..... sorry to know it. )

I know I'm going to get banned when posting some stuffs like sneaking cameras on the ride, line jumping, and offensive behaviors like vandalism since I once ever read TOS. Then do you think I would get banned when talking on these stuffs in the TPR chat? Hope I'd not be so because TOS does not say "You can't type these behaviors when chatting with TPR people in the TPR chat." Please do believe I'm not rude with that. Could you please reply to the question? Thank you!
