coasterdude5
Okay, so I watched a video of Darkastle today and I swear it looks like the "sleigh" actually picks up speed. But with technology.... Is there an incline or anything or is it all flat? Thanks!
JamminJ
No.
Twister II
If you've ridden Spiderman at IOA, its the same exact thing. The use of 3-D, effects, sounds, etc. make it seem like its dropping, when its just in one spot the entire time.
coasterdude5
^That's what I figured, but man, it looked like it was dropping. I guess technology is just to much for me!

DATman
Spidey's drop is better. It actually invokes feelng, whereas DK's drop was like-OOH! Projection!
cfc
I rode DarKastle on opening day (after waiting about three hours), and as I recall, the "drop" illusion was much more forceful--the sleigh seemed to drop faster and bounce more. But I think they toned it down. The sleighs used to spin at two points during the ride, too, but now only once (this was a wise change, I thought). BarryH
I almost didn't feel the drop in DarKastle. When the sleigh dropped, it was like "Oh, we just dropped." Spiderman's drop is a lot better with the effects, music, and the Scoop colliding into the building first before the drop.
Spideyfreak
I don't like the drop on DarKastle. In fact I don't like any part of the vehicles' profile. All it does is rock back and forth and spin a few times. It's just a big rip off of Spidey.

larrygator
It's just a big rip off of Spidey. similar to John Fogerty ripping off Creedence Clearwater Revival!
DATman
^^^Well, all spidey does is rock back and forth/spin a few times...(so I guess it is a rip-off) I love how everyone bashes CDK because Spidey is better. DarKastle is fun, but because there is something better out there, it sucks to everyone whos been on spidey. Also, I think DK mastered the system a little better, as there are changes in elevation throughout the ride. That was one thing I disliked about Spidey-it was absolutely flat. Imagine if Disney decided to make one of these. For those of you who are thinking of Indy, I mean the ones that spin/go by 3D screens. But, everyone would bash Disney for doing it because they think it'd rip-off Spidey.
cfc
I prefer Soider-man, too, but I think DarKastle is great--a wonderful addition to BGW.

Imagine if Disney decided to make one of these. For those of you who are thinking of Indy, I mean the ones that spin/go by 3D screens. But, everyone would bash Disney for doing it because they think it'd rip-off Spidey. Let me explain: Spidey's profile is perfectly syncronized to the actions outside the car. When Electro shocks you, the car vibrates and shakes. There is also a lot of interaction with the car, screens, lighting, and other special effects. On DarKastle, the most you get is fog and a blast of heat. Almost half of the ride is based on Spidey. For example, on DarKastle, you hear "Come, come don't hold back. It's time to heat things up!" This is clearly taken from when Dr. Octopus says "Don't leave now, things are just starting to....heat up." The basic sequence of events are even the same as Spidey. On top of all that, Busch Gardens says that there is no other ride like DarKastle. I'm just stating the facts. I just don't like it when people who have been on both rides don't think DarKastle is a rip off. Okay I'm done. I just needed to get that out. BarryH
A lot of the show scenes in DarKastle reminded me of Spiderman. The spin down the fireplace reminded me of Spiderman's spin down the sewer. The floating in the air scene was a gentler Spiderman floating in the air scene. Even the drop seemed similar. DarKastle doesn't have a lot of the practical effects Spiderman does. I think adding practical effects would have made DarKastle a more immersive experience. I will say this: DarKastle's 3-D projections are very sharp and the amination is very well done. The motion of the sleds aren't as aggressive as Spiderman's Scoops. Damien666
I have to credit BGW for putting a big attration like that in the park. It looks fun and it must be great for anyone that has never been on Spiderman. But of course if you have been on Spiderman you do know Darkastle is not quite on par. I do say Darkastle has very nice 3-D, but it focuses on 3-D more then practical effects. But I don't think it was right of BGW to claim that there is no other ride like it. But I know with all parks they gotta hype their attractions, but if they hype it too much. People are going to expect more and be dissapointed. Vince
DarKastle is basically the twin goth brother of Spidey. DarKastle has some pretty nice themeing, but its basically the same-looking scenery throught the ride. It pretty cool, but Spidey has that more intense feeling to it. Especially that spin before the Hobgoblin scene!
ECZenith
Forgive me if this sounds stupid, but I assumed Spidey was an in-house (Universal Creative) design... When Darkastle was first announced, I was like WTF... is this a product sold by a ride manufacturing company? Are these things just available for any park to purchase, or is it just that Darkastle is extremely similar to the Spidey rides?
Spideyfreak
I'm pretty sure Oceaneering worked on Spidey. I know they worked on DarKastle. Their designs are slightly different. For example, the track. Spidey has a guide rail and two sets of hot rails (power rails). DarKastle's is slightly different. There is the guide rail, and what looks like a hot rail on either side of the guide rail right up against it. So their designs are slightly different. That's the best explanation I can give for right now.
cfc
My understanding is that DarKastle is the work of four different contractors. On opening day I was waiting in line with this nice couple from Orlando--the girl was one of the designers of DarKastle's interiors (one example of her work is the leaded window you see as you're boarding the sleighs), and she mentioned this (if I'm remembering her correctly). DarKastle is unique in terms of its storyline, which doesn't involve any preexisting licensed characters. So, in that sense, it's "one of a kind." DarKastle can also be "changed" fairly easily (that is, Busch can incoporate new show scenes from the company that produced the excellent digital video used on the ride). Whether they'll do this is, of course, another story. (There's a rumor going around that the "fireplace" sequence is going to be enhanced, but I have no confirmation of this, so take it with the proverbial salt.) Spideyfreak
No, because rides and movies are two completely different things.
