Homer Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Yep, kids, before that dancing old dude came and died so soon... there was a theme park chain with only three words as its selling point. It was a lot better than "Clean, Safe, Fun!"... it was "Bigger, faster, closer!", which eventually evolved to "So Big, So Fast, So Close!". Well, heres an old TV ad hosted at Retrojunk.com. If you ask me, if Snyder is looking for a new ad... why not rehash Bigger, Faster, Closer. Also, indulge yourself in old SFMM stock footage! http://www.retrojunk.com/details_commercial/924/ Judging by the location map in the ad... this was probably aired in 1995, due to no SFFT and SFStL being called its old name of Mid-America.
CoasterCrazy Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 That video was cool! It was fun watching old park footage!
PhishyBrewer Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 You don't see to many parks attack Disney. That took balls
Guy T. Koepp Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 I like the chick showing a little side ass. Guy "Mmmmmmmm Side Ass." Koepp
Token Yankee Guy Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 wow, back when the company only had 7 parks...Great find
waterviper Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Ok I think thats stupid to compare any Six Flags to Disneyland!! Its like DUH!!!!!!!!!! Disneyland wasnt built for their coasters or thrills!! So that knocks down the faster part!! Of course all the Six Flags are gona have faster rides!!! Now bigger is pretty lame too! Disneyland is pretty damn big if you ask me!!! The only thing that really works is the closer. Yes Six Flags is spread out across the USA like cancer but there is only one Disneyland so that makes it unique!! Only one Disneyland according to the comercial that is. Because the comercial only compared all the Six Flags across the states to the Disneyland in California!! Im sorry that just annoyed me watching that comercial comparing something thats not worthy of comparison!! I know the point that its making but IMO they went about it the wrong way!! They are also saying that Disneyland is boring compared to any Six Flags. I know they said that ya Disneyland is a great park to visit, but how he said it and using the dog comparison pretty much saying that its not as fun!! Honestly I would rather go to Disneyland over SFMM anyday!!! Better atmosphere, ambience, theme and hela lot more to look at!!! Even a lot of the ques at Disneyland are fun to stand in because they are themed so well!! Not that I am dissing coasters or anything but this comercial was in bad taste!!
PhishyBrewer Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 I like the chick showing a little side ass. Guy "Mmmmmmmm Side Ass." Koepp Hmm... new thread at the phishybrewer.com forums???
robbalvey Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 I remember that commercial! It wasn't THAT old. I'd say early 90s? And the comparison to Disneyland was more the fact that the parks were closer in distance, which, to most of the US population, even in the early 90s, they were. And in response to WaterViper, you have to keep in mind that when this commercial aired, Disneyland was only one park, and I think all of the Six Flags parks ARE actually larger in size than Disneyland! Also WDW was only three parks, and their 3rd park (MGM) had just opened recently and still didn't have signature attractions like Tower of Terror and Rock N Roller Coaster. IOA didn't exist at this time either. Also, in the early 90s, Six Flags parks were BETTER PARKS then they are today! They were cleaner, better maintained, had more shows, and had better value. So the comparisons, in the early 90s probably did make more sense. Today they would get killed. --Robb
MSLSM Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 ^I would guess late. They showed SFMM with B:TR. It could have been at a diffrent park, but I would think it is the same. Yes SF would get killed, but hopefully that will change. That was probably the most unique commercial for a park I have seen. I have seen very few commercials through a dog(beggin strips, Toyota, and SF). SF was actually creative at a time. Who knew.
arrowfanman Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 They actally argued on paid advertising space that "Disneyland is a nice place to visit"! Not like them anymore. The commercial beats the crap out of the "Xtreme Park" or "Playtime" thing.
memphish Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 I remember seeing those ads. The mid 90's were great years at SF parks (well I only went to the original 3 and I was 9-11 at the time) Makes me misty eye'd for the good'ole days.
