I think it heavily depends on the park. Lets look at my home park Silver Dollar City. They do a great job having a thrilling ride along with excellent themeing! However then we have a classic Americana Style Park like Lake Winnie. If they suddenly built a heavily themed ride it just wouldn't fit! However shame on Any park for building parking lot rides. Scream at SFMM im looking at you. Honestly at least pull up the lot and plant grass! However I guess we can't really complain because a roller coater is better than no roller coaster. Unless it's Son Of Beast. LoL

None of the coasters in my top 3 steel (or top 3 wood) have very much theming (my number 4 steel does, however). I think good theming is highly recommended, but the ride itself should come first.

I would take a coaster anyway over theming. I would always go to a six flags park over a Universal park because the ride is what matters to me and the theming generally does nothing for me. I would take the parking lot coaster any day!

For me, a coaster like USO's Revenge of the Mummy blows something like a B&M hyper put of the water. I prefer a mix of both, as I don't want a boring ride with fantastic theming. I love a fantastic ride, but if you combine the two, you might get something like Deep Space which looks awesome!

For me I prefer more track. If I'm traveling around a lot of track at a high rate of speed I'm not going to have the time to care about the themeing. However if it's a smaller less thrilling coaster the themeing can make or break the ride. If it's a small coaster like ROTM at Universal the themeing is necessary. However if it's a larger ride like i305 a lot of themeing isn't needed. So for me. . . I prefer more track. . . But if more track isn't an option then the small ride better be really well themed!!

There are a number of rides that would be better with less track.

It all depends on the park and the nature of the ride, or if the intent is storytelling or just thrills; sometimes, they go together.
