zongaboy626 Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 there was an explosion at the pg&e down the street the power went out for like 30 mins that was kinda scary half of the town was in the cold rainy dark
crispy Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 When I lived in Boulder Creek, CA, we had a MAJOR storm come through, and had a huge mudslide near our house, we had no power for almost 2 weeks that SUCKED!
SteveC Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 ^well, back in '76 during the "Winter of Discontent"......I wont go on Steve - I win-C
Louise Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 ^ Yeah you're right Steve, you win, no-one can compete with your mighty age.
Wes Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 When I was your age, we didn't have electricity. We had to do everything by candlelight, and fight off raptors with crudely sharpened sticks.
FlyingScooter Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 What's electricity? Man, more political propaganda! Now they want us to elect r city's???
Guest Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 LMFAO Wes! You made me spit out a drink again! STOP THAT! LMAO! Katie, who has Dr. Pepper up her nose OUCH!
ebl Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 ^^ We didn't have candles because fire hadn't been discovered yet. And at that time, raptors were little things we kept as pets. And we had to walk everywhere, as there were no wheels. Eric
Louise Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 ^ And wherever you walked, it was uphill both ways, right? And you couldn't afford shoes?
maeryk Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 One of the reasons my new house has a woodstove is exactly that power issue. I grew up in a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere.. (my parents installed the running water and plumbing, and tore down the outhouse shortly after moving in!!!), anyway.. we'd typically lose power for a week or so during severe winter storms. I'm back in a "farmhouse" and while I dont necessarily fear being out of power for a week, I do want the ability to heat my house with something that requires no power whatsoever overnight if necessary. dandaman Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 During that big one that knocked out the entire Northeast in August 2003, we were coming back from Algonquin Park (2.5 hours north of Toronto, 8 hours away from here). I was scheduled to go to Cedar Point for the first time the next day, but around 4:00 we were passing by Canada's Wonderland, and none of the coasters were running. People were being evac'ed, etc. My Dad turns on the radio, and there's no stations coming in. We're like, "Ooooookay...WTF?" Then, one station comes in and says they're on a backup generator, and power's knocked out from North Bay down to Ohio. They didn't know if it was the work of terrorists or not (I guessed not), but they said a power plant in Niagara Falls had something happen to it. I looked in the direction of N.F. (at this point, we were driving kinda close to it), and there was a plume of smoke. When we got home, we ended up having an uber-huge pool party by flashlight, etc... Best night of my life Didn't get to the Point 'till two days later
ebl Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 "And wherever you walked, it was uphill both ways, right? And you couldn't afford shoes?" And it was always snowing, too. As for shoes, WTF were those?!?! Eric
Louise Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 ^ LOL, next thing I know you'll be telling me that when you were young it only cost a dollar for an entire day out somewhere with all meals included and enough left in the change for your bus fare home. That's one of my dad's favourites.
dandaman Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 "And wherever you walked, it was uphill both ways, right? And you couldn't afford shoes?" And it was always snowing, too. Pretty odd weather for So Cal
ebl Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 ^ It was normal during the Ice Age. ^^ Dollars? What were those? We bought stuff with sabre tooth tiger claws and shells. There were no buses, either. You can't have those without wheels. Eric
Louise Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 ^ Aww crud, I forgot about the no wheels thing!
FlyingScooter Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 And I thought I was old! I wasn't around for the invention of the wheel, but i did have the patent on the bearing! -Mark Timken
