Gutterflower Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 This week Typhoon Meranti clipped the southern edge of Taiwan bringing winds over 180mph, But yesterday the weakening super typhoon barreled into the Chinese mainland striking the city of Xiamen. The storm which has killed at least 10 has been classed as strongest in the world this year and the worst to hit Fujian province since records began. Winds of 105mph battered the coast and Fantawild in Xiamen has released a set of pictures showing the damage caused to their Dreamworld park. The park has been closed as the clear up begins but looking at these pictures it could be some time. No word on the state of the rides especially their brand new and unopened M&V wooden coaster. More on the storm here
DoinItForTheFame Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 I always find it sad when parks get hit by a natural disaster. Hopefully the park is able to recover soon!
gerstlaueringvar Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Curious how the roller coasters are handling extreme weather, especially the SkyLoop. If it is safe and soundthen it is sure some impressive structural engineering.
Henry M Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 It makes my heart sink to see all the effort gone into a park simply to get blown away. It is like when you are making an RCT park and it is really good and you forget to save. I hope all who are affected and all places affected can recover soon.
TheCoasterKid211 Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 It is like when you are making an RCT park and it is really good and you forget to save. That's the most unfair comparison I've ever heard. But in all seriousness, hope the park gets fixed up and everyone in the area recovers very soon.
gerstlaueringvar Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 It is like when you are making an RCT park and it is really good and you forget to save. More like when you finished the park and someone robbed your house and took everything away including your mattress.
Gutterflower Posted September 22, 2016 Author Posted September 22, 2016 Another set of pictures showing the damage It's quite a bit more extensive than I imagined. While the Vekoma Boomerang and Martin & Vleminckx Wooden Coaster look in decent condition some of the theater buildings have partially collapsed. The original park has set a date of the 30th of September to partially reopen but not all attractions will be open and you can see why. Work continues with the extensive clean up not just in the park but in the city as a whole. It's worth noting the wooden coaster hasn't even opened yet and is due to open with the second park next month. You have to imagine this will put back the opening date a bit.

Gutterflower Posted September 23, 2016 Author Posted September 23, 2016 If it is safe and soundthen it is sure some impressive structural engineering. But China... The ride he's talking about is European made, manufactured and built and I'm impressed that all 3 coasters seem undamaged. And while some Chinese construction work may be a bit shoddy its often completely over blown, Any city in any country would have been damaged by this storm. At its peak it had wind speeds higher than Katrina. In a separate note I got a response to these pictures on Facebook from Martin & Vleminckx It is truely heartbreaking to see the city that was our home for the last year damaged so badly in the storm. Xiamen is a favorite city of most of of crew. Really worth a visit.
Gutterflower Posted September 27, 2016 Author Posted September 27, 2016 Sometimes the world just isn't fair. Having been clobbered by Meranti last week a second Typhoon is about to hit the area before the cleanup from the first is complete. Typhoon Megi is less powerful than Meganti (Cat 4 instead of 5) but I can't imagine the city and park are in much of a state to cope with what's coming. https://weather.com/storms/typhoon/news/typhoon-megi-forecast-taiwan-china
Hilltopper39 Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 Was that dinosaur there before the storm or did he get blow over there? It's kinda of a random location him by himself next to the Boomerang.
