FlyingScooter Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 How do you Canadians celebrate your day of Thanksgiving?
dandaman Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 We're very polite, so we eat tofu turkey instead. It's the exact same as you guys celebrate it, I'd imagine: Some people go on long weekend vacations, others stay home, and everyone eats Thanksgiving turkey. The only difference, I think, would be the month and no "Thanksgiving Day parades" (how weird would it be to see Santa before Halloween? ). I'm dual citizenship, actually, so I end up celebrating both American and Canadian holidays. DOUBLE TURKEY!
Nrthwnd Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 ^ LOL ^ It's a stat Monday off, for a lot of government workers, banks and financial institutions usually closed and stock exchanges, etc. It's sort of 'there' with all the eventual Halloween stuff that's going up and gathering steam, heh heh. It comes out in commericals for food stoes, yes. I think because it's connected more to actual seasonal harveting times, and the seasonal time changes, etc. that makes it a definite mark of the fall season we're now in. But it's not a commercial Big Deal as it goes in the USA. Or as much of one. Granted there are those ads and displays in shops. Now - what do you guys do for Columbus Day? I know there's parades here and there in the States. But - for what? I mean, he's Portugese isn't he? Or is this for the old 'discovery of...' and it's his birthday, thing? I don't even remember why, lol. Have a nice Columbus Day, America.
coasterfreak101 Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 ^^Man, what I'd give to have two turkey days!!! I love turkey, the good thing is that I do get turkey on Christmas!!! You lucky dog, you
Canadmos Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 I celebrated thanksgiving by having THREE tukey dinners.....One at my moms house, dads house and another at my grandparents. Every year I learn to hate turkey all over again. I also went to Pcw for the last regular operating day
F1shy Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 My birthday on Canadian Thanksgiving? Nice! Go CANADIANS! and... GERMANY! WOOT! and AMERICA of course.
DenDen Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 shouldn't that be "Canadadian"? You mean you don't eat back-bacon? You hosers. (Sorry young 'uns, the reference is before your time. )
Teddymonster Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 Happy TG Canadians! God, I love Canadians...
RBOrrell Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 I spent Thanksgiving weekend like this. Friday night was the first curling game of the season. Golfing on Saturday (it was 4 degrees when I started but warmed up to a nice 14). Sunday was spent travelling to family. Monday was turkey, ham, turnip, potato (two ways), corn, green beans, gravy, pumpkin and apple pies. Had a few beers too. Good day, eh.
