Erik Johnson Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 (edited) For anybody who has attended, graduated, or lives around The University of Florida knows what the Gator Growl is. It is the world's largest student run pep-rally for a football team in the world. This was the 80th year that they have done the Gator Growl. I have not gone to one in around 12 years when Gary Shandling and Dennis Miller were the comics who attended. Over the years such comedians as Jerry Seinfeld, Bill Cosby, Jay Leno, Robin Williams etc. have attended. This year was Wayne Brady (Who's Line is it anyways? and some guy named Greg Giraldo. Leanne and I are fans of Wayne Brady (plus she has never been) so we decided to go this year. Anyways here are some pictures. Leanne had the same idea. Before running to Gator Growl, I stuffed my face with a Publix sub. The classic painting of the cool Gator while walking into the stadium. Here is the gate. Me, Albert, Alberta and Leanne just hanging out. I hope they are not hungry. The Swamp...If you ever played NCAA football, you know this place. I think around 60,000 people are going to attend this year. (well 45,000) The stadium holds close to 90,000 people, pretty much the entire city could meet in here. The Gator Growl stage. ....and in band camp, we got to play with some fire, and...... The people are in thier seats, now its time for the show to begin. Me with my pyscho look, I could not find my usual Coke fix. Stupid UF signed a contract with the devil. You can't buy a Coke anywhere on campus now. Yes, it sucks! After the show we headed out of the gate. This year was better due to the fact it was just a little over 3 1/2 hours for everything. Some years could almost be 5 hours long. Time to set the stadium on fire. Taking ideas for a skit from the audience, one was a Family Guy skit, Wayne did a great Stewie. Wayne Brady was very funny tonight, his act was similiar to what he did on Whose Line Is It Anyways, which was fine by us. Emmitt and our new head coach Urban Meyer. Dallas Cowboys fans may be happy to know that Emmitt Smith stopped by tonight to say hello. Yes he was a Gator. Fatman made it this year. Greetings, Program! Edited October 8, 2005 by Erik Johnson

Scaparri Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 Awesome! I've been a big Gator fan for quite a while now. I just wish I could have gone to school there! Great school, great campus, great town. One of these days, I need to actually get down there for a game. I've never seen a game in the swamp.
QuakerOaties Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 It's stuff like this that makes me tempted to go to a big university... Great pictures Erik! Mark "That gator painting is cool" Luskus
AllisonY2K Posted October 8, 2005 Posted October 8, 2005 great pics! I've been to a Gator Growl, but that was about 7 years ago. Ray Romano performed and did a very good job. I love that place during game day, there is SO much spirit around campus..heck around the whole dang town!
larrygator Posted October 29, 2005 Posted October 29, 2005 I may have attended the worst Gator Growl ever my freshman year with The Smothers Brothers as the act in 1985. At least the skits from the students were great.

WillMontu Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 What's sad is that I've been a Gator for four years, and I have yet to go to a game in the Swamp (or the O-Dome for that matter). I've been up the Century Tower, had my picture taken by the French Fries, and realized that that rock in Turlington Plaza is in fact a piece of dinosaur poop. I think something's wrong with me.
ebl Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 NO COKE?!?!? Why those... Nice TR, though! Eric

Well its Ok that you have not gone to one of the football games (that's what T.V. is for). At least you do not have to deal with all that madness that occurs around the stadium on gameday. I am glad you have visited the french fries, but have you done the Bathouse yet at dusk? Make sure you do that before you leave Gainesville.
