So we have decided to do another Mega amusement park trip this summer, but have a few loose ends and questions that maybe my fellow TPR members could help us with.

First off, here is our final list of parks that we are planning on doing during this trip. We are on a little bit of a budget, so we are mainly sticking to parks like six flags and cedar fair because we have season passes to them. This list is in order of visits.

1.Six flags over Georgia

2. Two days at carowinds

3. Kings Dominion

4. Six flags America

5. Six flags great adventure

6. Six flags New England

7. Great escape

8. (3 parks in one day) Delgrossos, Lakemont, conneaut lake.

We "may" try to squeeze a few hours into Knobeles, but not sure if we are going to be able to quite yet.

A few questions...

Does conneaut lake and knobeles sell individual ride tickets, or do we need to buy a wristband? Due to having to do 3 parks in one day, we will only be able to spend about an hour or 2 in conneaut lake park and don't really see the value in a wristband. We are mainly going there to hit up the coaster and dark ride.

Are the green season long refillable cups from six flags able to be used at other six flags parks aside from the park you purchased it at?

We are looking for some decent budget friendly hotels near or within an hour of the parks that others can recommend. We have our room booked at the motel 6 at carowinds and six flags over Georgia already, but would welcome advice on the other parks.

Any other low cost parks that we could maybe fit into our trip?

Any other help or suggestions would be welcome!

I normally use Hotwire and Priceline and score hotels near the parks you're visiting for $65 or less. If you need help bidding or what possible hotels you might get, check out "betterbidding.com"

Lake Compounce has an after 5PM price, check their website to see if it is within your budget.

Quassy is pay per ride and worth a stop just to ride Wooden Warrior, I think parking is only about $5.

At Knoebels, you always have the option to pay per ride

^ I'm with Larry, Quassy followed by Lake Compounce after five is a really good day at a reasonable price, and will fit well with traveling between Great Adventure and SFNE. Night rides on Boulder Dash could very well end up being the highlight of the trip.

Knoebels is a really amazing place as well and if you don't think you'll have a chance to get there for a while besides this trip I would recommend you try to do that as well. Most people seem to feel that you need a full day for the real Knoebels "experience," but in terms of rides if you have like 3 hours it's a good stop.

Definitely don't miss Quassy and LC if you have a chance, and have fun!

EDIT: Just so you know, after 5 entry to Lake Compounce is $23. I couldn't find it on their websit when I looked the other day.

Quassy sounds like a great little park that would fit right into our schedule. I have heard great things about the wooden warrior coaster they have, so we may have to check it out.

If you have never been to Lake Compounce I would definitely recommend stopping there over The Great Escape honestly. Boulderdash is an amazing coaster, much better than The Comet in its current state. If you have never been to Knobels I could not recommend that you stop there enough. Since I went there for the first time a few years ago I cannot stop going back. It is just a great place to be, the only worry I have is if you try to "squeeze " it in you may not want to leave! Looks like an ambitious trip. I wish you all the best!

We have been to lake compounce a few years ago, so we are trying to hit up some parks we have never been to or have not been to in a long time. Boulder dash was an amazing ride. I believe that they had just redone or retracked the final leg of the coaster the year we went.

Knobels is another park we have been to, but it's been a while. Not only is it an amazing park, but it's cheap and on the route to Delgrossos.

Knoebels is much better than every other park you're planning on visiting on this trip. You need to re-evaluate your priorities.

You're welcome in advance, if you seriously sacrifice time at Knoebels to spend more time at Delgrossos, Lakemont, or Conneaut lake you're making a huge mistake. Even if you have to cut out one of the 2 days at Carowinds for Knoebels, you should absolutely do it.

If I'm dropping a park from the list, I probably would choose Delgrosso's simply because it is likely to live awhile. Lakemont and Conneaut look like they're both on death's door and ride wristbands at both are disgustingly cheap. One park I'd mention because they run a number of different deals (including pay-per-ride schemes) that you could visit that also could be on the verge of rather significant changes is Rye Playland. The two dark rides there are real classics. Even if you chose to get wristbands, the price per person is probably comparable to a after 4pm ticket to Compounce. If you've been before and been on everything, obviously that might be a skip, but their Derby Racer is by far the best existing version of the ride, and they have a really solid Whip too in addition to the coasters.

The only reason we are doing Delgrossos is because it's right by Lakemont park, it's cheap, and my wife has never been there.

Rye Playland looks like an option as well. I just have to find out the prices ( if they offer individual ride tickets ) and how much it costs to get there. The last time we went to coney island, we had to pay a boatload of money to cross a few bridges and toll roads.

Was Rye Playland the park from the movie big?

Posted

Yes, Rye was in "Big". Lakemont and Degrossos... right... 30 minutes from each other, might as well. The Flight 93 Memorial is out that way, too, in case you're interested.

Waldameer is about an hour and fifteen from Conneaut. Pretty sure both take tickets, but Waldameer has a lot of cool stuff to do so you might want a POP.

Problem is, is Pennsylvania's got SO MANY great parks and pieces of history, you just can't see them all.

Posted

I don't think Rye Playland uses fun cards any more, I think now it's pay one price and they charge more for Non Westchester residents. It's not a bad idea to go there since that park threatens to close or go through an extensive change every single year. If you do, the Old Mill and Derby Racer shouldn't be missed. The Derby Racer is a million times better than the only other operating "Derby Racer style" carousel, Cedar Downs at Cedar Point as they run it a lot faster.

But don't add anything to the trip until you figure out how to spend a day at Knoebels.

Posted

I wouldn't want to spend two days at Carowinds. Unless you're going on a Saturday and think it necessary?

Knoebels has an after 5:00 wristband price that's much less. Also a band that includes the wooden coasters costs more. Strange. And, no band includes the haunted house. They have a Wed & Fri bargain night too.
