milst1 Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 (edited) We had an amazing 24 hours in Phoenix, celebrating Halloween with me, Cheryl, Lauren, and Rick! Lauren flew in from Austin (via Atlanta!), Rick flew in from Virginia (via Boston) and Cheryl and I flew in from New York (direct!) We got in late on Thursday, and we were up with the desert sun on Friday! First stop was beautiful Schnepf Farms in Queen Creek! They have a huge parking lot! Ka-ching! Half off admission with a costume! Photo op! We didn't realize that 8 billion people would stop us to ask to take our picture! First of many! They made an exception and they let us in! Pumpkin patch! The Miler Gravity Coaster! A really long queue. There were a lot of school groups that morning. Kids kept squeezing my grapes and I felt so violated. Another random photo shoot! Credit! Schnepf has other great stuff, like pig races. And a carousel. I forgot to take pics, but this was the Pumpkin and Chili Fest. Good chili. And a train! We did have a minor re-tracking delay, but we finally got on. Huge expanses. And into the orchards. Thanks to Carrie Schnepf and the good folks at Schnepf Farms for a great morning! Next stop, Enchanted Island. Enchanted Island is a little amusement park inside the city's Encanto Park. It's quite beautiful. Lots of kiddie flats and things like bumper boats. It's kept up extremely well. Very nice train ride around the property. Many thanks to Craig, the owner, who was a gracious host. On to the Fair! The midway is operated by Ray Commack Shows, one of the biggest shows in the country. First credit was this beautiful WMI-built Little Dipper. I have no idea if the company still makes rides, but this is a gem. This is what grapes look like on the coaster. Next credit was the Galaxy. This ride is new to the show. If anyone knows where they got it from, please let me know or inform coaster-count. Unfortunately RCS isn't responding to my emails. Here's a fraction of the midway. Some good and crazy food here. This was Rick's choice. These looked tempting, but I ended up trying Navajo Fry Bread for the first time, and it was awesome. Forgot to take a pic. Remember that I've got these big cartoon hands on and I can't take pictures or eat very easily! Nice. Whaaaaat? Chocolate covered bacon! I can't tell if Lauren is feeling vulnerable or aroused. Two more credits: a Wisdom Dragon Wagon and a Zamperla Spinning Mouse. They had some good looking flats too. I have no idea what this is. Love the Zipper! I didn't get a great look at this thing but it was crazy! And I love these rides with the cover that comes over the top! We did this dark ride but missed another. We had to move on to our next appointment. And this is what "Grapes on a Galaxy" look like. I felt my grapes hit a support and one of the grapes tore off of my costume! Yikes. Next stop was Castles n' Coasters! If you've been here, you know it's a very big FEC with a couple of steel coasters, Patriot and Desert Storm. Getting these credits for Cheryl was the whole reason behind the trip. What, Patriot is down????? These were so good. I've never had this flavor before. Go-Karts. A little Halloween theming. Rides! Desert Storm ran well. Cheryl actually loved it. Here is Rick expounding on his planned trips, or on United's frequent flyer program, or both. We had to take Rick to catch his flight home. Bye, Apple! Nice fountain! The rest of us then went to Fear Farm. They had four mazes: Descent Undead Mouth of Madness, which was everyone's favorite, and Legends: La Llorona Lauren made a friend! We went to one more haunt, House of Screams. They had a 30-foot demon that was awesome. Kids, buy the fast passes; it's worth it! Thanks for joining us on this adventure! Goodbye, Halloween, Hello, Thanksgiving! Edited November 3, 2014 by milst1
GwaziBSRider1 Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Awesome TR, Martin! Love your costumes, too. You know by wearing those grapes, you were just asking to be violated!
milst1 Posted November 2, 2014 Author Posted November 2, 2014 ^^^ I told the women that if I squeezed their round things they would call me "fresh".
cfc Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 The deep-fried chocolate pickle could be the most disgusting example of "fair food" yet.
milst1 Posted November 3, 2014 Author Posted November 3, 2014 The deep-fried chocolate pickle could be the most disgusting example of "fair food" yet. I probably would've given it a shot, but I was in plain sight of my personal physician.
WFChris Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Can we enter this in some kind of TPR picture of the year contest?
nyanicorn Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Can we enter this in some kind of TPR picture of the year contest? Instant winner for sure! I can't help but laugh at the sight of these pictures, imagine what the people were thinking in their minds when they see three human-fruits on the rides!
milst1 Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 Four fruits! Apple (we called him Macintosh), Pineapple (We called her Dole), Banana (we called her Chiquita), and Grapes!
fatdaddy Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Totally laugh every time I see you guys as fruit. LOL!
BugEyed Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 I'll most likely have recurring fitful dreams about fried chocolate pickles for the remainder of my life.
milst1 Posted November 5, 2014 Author Posted November 5, 2014 The flat ride is a Technical Park Pegasus. Impressive, Joey. I didn't know you were into flats. I wish I had a better pic of that other one.
Barge84 Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Nice report, Martin! I was wondering why you guys were all in Arizona together on Halloween. Looks like a fun day. Too bad Rick was there.
gisco Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 ^maybe because it was a better choice then Iowa???
Barge84 Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 There's about 35 other states that you could say are better than Iowa. Although, I'm not sure that I'd count Arizona in that group.
JimmyBo Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Seriously...why in the bloody hell did you come to Arizona for Halloween?!?!? Anyway, Schnepf Farms is always a blast and the Miler Coaster has some insane ejector airtime in the back seat. Encanto park really is a nice place, unfortunately we've only been there while passing through Phoenix in the hot, hellish summers and the parks closes by noon because the rides become too damn hot for anybody. Next time you're in Arizona you should check out NightFall at Old Tucson Studios...it's no Universal Studios Haunt but it's still pretty awesome! Jimmy "Did you like the hot weather this Halloween?"
