sharpstick Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I live a couple blocks from Busch Gardens in Tampa. When the wind is right, I can hear the wooden roller coaster rattling, the music blaring on the PAs, and the fireworks(twice a year for weeks at a time, as most of our cats hide under the bed, probably as fearful as the elephants and giraffes who live even closer and don't have a bed to hide under). Last Friday, the day after thanksgiving, the christmas carols started. I am not christian(For a creation myth, I prefer something more creative, like the Flying Spaghetti Monster.), and don't appreciate the brain viruses that carols are as they provide involuntary background music in our heads for four weeks a year. I was working out in the yard when I first noticed it Friday afternoon. "Oh no," I thought, "It starts again." I gritted my teeth and prepared myself for the yearly torture of someone else's myth. Then a smile crossed my face, as I realized that as the dry recorded christmas carols were blaring over the treetops at me, I could simultaneously hear the screams of terror of the people riding the roller coasters. Somehow, that made it just a little bit more bearable.
coasterbill Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I'm not really sure what the point of this thread is but if you decided to live near a year round major theme park and get upset by the sound of music coming from the park then that's really just too bad. It would be like moving next to an airport and complaining about how loud the planes are.
sharpstick Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 Sorry, I forgot where the sarcastic humor key was on my keyboard.
Dr. M Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I'm as curmudgeonly as they come and even I get slightly irritated when I hear people complaining about Christmas music. Yes it's the same year after year, but c'moooooon... it's Christmas! Lighten up!

cfc Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 You live a couple of blocks from a major theme park with a Christmas event. You have two options: 1. Move 2. Buy earplugs That's the best advice I can give you.
A.J. Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Or, 3. Buy headphones and proceed to play your own music.
traincrossin Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Or 4. Hack into the park's PA system and play death metal.
Erik Johnson Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 People have to remember that the park was built there first. If you decide to move near it you have to expect to hear noise from it. On another note, I still think it was nuts that they built those new apartments right behind Universal Orlando. Trying to sleep during late HHN nights must be tough.
DJeXeL Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 You can always move to Santa Clara or Buena Park in CA.
mark549 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 A partial antidote is to remember than most of the symbols around this are not actually from Christianity (ie. Santa). A viewing of The Life of Brian or Brazil is also recommended. "Santa died for your Mastercard" The exact spot where He supposedly came out of Mary. I saw this in person as a kid. cfc Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Or, 3. Buy headphones and proceed to play your own music. Or 4. Hack into the park's PA system and play death metal. These are also good suggestions, although number 3 enjoys the advantage of being legal.
KBrylczyk Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 ^ Everything is legal until you get caught!
