As the Bremen Freimarkt ended yesterday coming friday starts the last major carnival for this year in germany in my hometown Hamburg.

To wet the appetite some construction pics from the official Hamburg website including some pictures of the Schwarzkopf Double-Loop Teststrecke.

It was a foggy day to visit the city but the gloomy atmosphere made the carnivals lights stand out even more.

Traveling Schwarzkopfs

Many Schwarzkopf coasters were designed to be portable as they were first ordered by showmen like Barth or Bruch: Looping Star, Silverarrow, Double-Loop, Triple-Loop, Thriller, Oympia, Katapult. Not to mention all the older portable models like Wildcat and Jet Star.

Don't really know why US portable rides are mostly small - if it wouldn't be profitable German showmen won't haul all the big rides.

It probably has to do with transportation costs as the U.S. is slightly(lol) bigger when compared to Germany

We charge a ridiculous amount of money for oversize trailers in the U.S.---it's not feasible for a show to haul a big ride here. Plus, instead of independent midways like the rest of world, most of the large fairs in the U.S. are contracted to certain showmen to do the entire midway. No competition!

Great pictures!

From the elevated Rotor platform the view over the Schwarzkopf Tilt-A-Whirl and ...

"Viva Mexico" is made by MACK, not Schwarzkopf.

^^ The larger rides here are also moved over longer distances by train.

The country size is of course a valid point - even from Hamburg to Munich you can go by train/truck during one night.

We have one show that goes by train: Strates Shows in the midwest. They have the only HUSS Top Spin in the U.S. Some of the fairgrounds they go to have built railroad spurs for them, but that is not common.
