Hey guys -

Originally my buddy Mike and I were planning to go to HHN at USO this October, but it turns out he can't get the required time off of work for the trip. Soooooo, we're now looking at a long weekend type of trip and the options are Cedar Point, Dorney Park, King's Island, or King's Dominion.

Now, I have been to each park and love them all, but I've never been to their halloween events. Which one would you guys recommend in terms of scariness, regular rides available, and crowds? We're planning on the trip being Friday, October 14th, through Sunday, October 16th.

Thanks, guys!

I have only been to Dorney out of those parks for a Halloween event but Haunt is amazing. There are I think 3 new attractions this year (replacing some older ones) and 11 or 12 total Haunt attractions now. After 6:00, there can be actors anywhere in the park. Generally Friday and Sunday aren't bad, Saturday is very crowded. The bad thing is for the 16th and a few other Sundays, there is no Haunt since I think they got complaints about the kids areas closing at 5:00 and now on those Sundays, the park is only open until 8:00.

All rides are open, except the water rides and Road Rally (it is used for a Haunt walkthrough). Thunderhawk and Scrambler close at 5:00 each day (they don't open on Friday at all).

I've only been to Cedar point for its halloweekends but it is pretty good. The houses usually open around 6 with the scarezones at 8. Also all rides are open but be careful its extremely crowded there on saturdays.

You could easily do Haunt at Kings Dominion and Howl-o-Scream at Busch Gardens Williamsburg in one weekend. KD stresses shocks and gross outs, while BGW goes more for creepiness and atmopshere. The parks are only a little over an hour away from each other.

KD opens from 7:00 pm to midnight on Fridays during Haunt (full day on Saturday and Sunday). Friday is a good night to beat the crowds. BGW's Quick Queue includes both rides and mazes.

^That is what i would do if i were you. I heard KI's Haunt is pretty good too though so it's hard to say. CP will probably be the most crowded while DP will probably be the least crowded

I suggest doing what Chuck said, Halloween Haunt XI and Kings Dominion and Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens. You really get two totally different experiences at each of those parks, but both of their Halloween events are some of the best around!

I'm super biased in saying CP is the best because I scare there and because I haven't been to the other parks haunts.

That being said go with Chuck's plan because two parks is always better then one and Howl-O-Scream is better then all the other choices.

Thanks for the help, guys. I was leaning away from BGW because I was there earlier this year (as well as KD) and Mike was there two weeks ago with his family. I figured to wait until next year once Verbolten is open.

Regardless, it is great information. I'll run it by him and see what's going on. Thanks again!

Do you guys think a Saturday in September would be as bad for crowds at Cedar Point? My friends and I are planning a trip there the 17th.

Possibly. Last year the first weekend was PACKED, but the previous year wasn't. Halloweekends is super popular now so I would bet the first weekend would be crowded and the second weekend may be a better bet for lower crowds.
