I'm a big fan of flats, both new and old, and was wondering what park everybody thought ran them the best.

We've only been to "Playland Park" (in Rye, NY) once, but we couldn't believe how ridiculously fast they ran all of their rides; everything - EVERYTHING - was cranked up to 11. I mean, I don't know if flats are actually designed to be able to operate at different speeds, but it just seemed like every ride was running faster than either of us had ever experienced before; the Whip, the Toboggans, the Scrambler, the Gravitron... holy crap, the Gravitron, several people were complaining that they were having trouble breathing while we were riding.

I just hope that, after that massive firing, the rides continue to be run as awesomely as they were when we went.

Coney Island Ohio. I dont care that they arent the greatest rides, but the way they run them...you can stay on for multiple cyles and they dont care. Not to mention the cycles themselves are pretty long. Also, best bumpers Ive been on. The floor is slippery enough to "skate" to your car, and once the ride ends, sometimes a car still goes for a while. I remember when my friend's was still moving, so I jumped off mine, and latched onto his while he glided around.

Personally I think best run and fastest run are different things... I can't deal with the fast spinning rides so I think I would be less inclined to love the rides cranked to 11 as you put it.

That being said I have never really been to a park with consistent operation across their flats. It really does seem to depend on the op as people have said.

I've heard the ops at L.I. Adventureland run their flats well, especially the Mondial Top Scan (which is apparently manually run). I've also heard Astroland runs their flats (Power Surge, Breakdance and Top Spin 2) very fast and long.

Of the park I have visited, Knoebel's does a pretty good job. The best though was Camden Park. For as hokey and slightly dangerous as that place is, they run their flats wild and for long periods of time. I had 5 minutes on a Spider and over 8 on a Tilt-A-Whirl during my visit in 2002. It was insane, and the only time I've ever felt nauseous at a park.
