robbalvey
Is this right? Well there isn't a B&M flyer in NoLimits at last recollection, so can one assume that this is a Vekoma flyer only contest?
djbrcace1234
Yeah, it is. Most people still use the Vekoma flyer and make bm inspired layouts, despite the limitations. I just say Vekoma flyer then.
mcjaco
If I didn't put that in, they'd be asking if it could B&M inspired. There's no winning with some of these kids.
robbalvey
DId we really only get one entry for the track of the week? Can we please, PLEASE try something for next week that is a very "common" ride to build in No Limits? Just like a woodie, Intamin Hyper, or something that everyone likes and is familiar with? QueerRudie
Let's go cheap and easy... Woodie. Any. That way people lose the excuse for 'supports' take too long...
mcjaco
Actually we had three. Two were inverts. I had to DQ them. This week it's a woodie. EDIT: I'll post the winner to the FP tomorrow morning, as we've hada ton of stuff up. It'll be a dual post. Winner/Next contest type thing. QueerRudie
Something's fishy here, I think- but I'm not quite sure just how it could be proven. I was 'checking up' on things in the Exchange, and this transaction sort of caught my eye a bit- for obvious reasons. A.J.
Sorry, the fishy smell was what I had for dinner last night. I generously gave his track a three - it was very smooth and I liked the layout, but there were too many clearance issues.
robbalvey
I'm not really a math person, so I don't have the answer to this...but hear me out... Is there some formula that we should use when determining a winner that includes that amount of votes they have received? As it works now, someone who submits a track early, is actually penalized by having more votes, and the potential for a lower average score, where someone who submits a track at the last minute, gets one vote of 5 stars, could become the winner. Any thoughts?
QueerRudie
I'll start working on that today; there's something VERY close to that in Yield Management that's akin to that. Give me a few hours- R.D.
mcjaco
Any thoughts? On the contest? Or just my thoughts in general? As for the contest, I think it stinks. Maybe weigh the early entries more heavily? Can we alogarithm for the Coaster Poll?

QueerRudie
OK: Here's a prototype for 'weighting averages' for the ToTW contest. YOU NEED EXCEL FOR THIS! This is a simple 'starter' equasion set based upon the freqency of direct yield equasion used for pricing airplane seats (Yes, it's why you pay 2500.00 for a walkup ticket and less than 99.00 for a 3 week in advance purchase ticket). This one is modififed a bit to fit our needs here for the ToTW contest. How to use it: Open up excel, and read across: The column headings are "Day Uploaded" "Number of Votes" "Average Votes" And "weighted Average" Pick the day of the week the track was uploaded (Say, Day 6 (Wednsday) and then enter what the exchange says (Average score, 2.5 stars) and Number of votes (6). The 'weighted average score pops up on the end- with a bit of a kicker- the earlier on you vote, the higher the overall score- thus, weighting it in favor of people uploading earlier- and thus increasing the score. This is just a TEST MODEL, however- I've got a numbers person on it to do a 'penalty/bonus' equaison that will work better in the future. R.D. A.J. I understand I'm a whiney boy defending my own track, but this seems a little suspicious. I've never seen a ranking changed so much in so little time. QueerRudie
ToTW 'points' generator v.1.01 (Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the functional equasion of advance requirements) OK: Here it is: After some tinkering and some experimenting, version 1.01a is now ready to be used. It's simple: I think we're ready for a 'dry run' of the spreadsheet with today's contest- we can then take a look at how close it plays out to what's desired. Instructions are the same- but I think it will make it easier for us to get an accurate 'point-count' in the future. I'm already working on V.1.02 and V2.0 for the future- stay tuned. R.D. QueerRudie
Is there something more "common" we can do to keep the momentum going? Like is there a B&M invert in No Limits? B&M Sitdown looping for me- although inverted works out well, too. Running the results through the spreadsheet gave me the following - Gryphon by coastertroy - 7 points Permanent Waves by Blatch - 10 points Wolverine by lankanboy101 - 12 points Furius Canis by gerstlauer1 - 9 points CBC by coasterfreak80 - 70 points Rush by RCT-Maker - 18 points Lakeshore Flyer by A.J. - 60.75 points Timberliner by BigDipper_80 - 40.5 points Acre Wood by lankanboy101 - 37.5 points Second place? I'm okay with it. At least riders' heads stay intact on my ride, nyah. How did you like it? I'm looking for ideas for the next update for it already; I've got a few ideas, but I'd like feedback on how you liked it's design. Also, I'd run the numbers tommorow morning, just to be on the safe side- I just found the last competitior in the bin a few minutes ago (On a different schedule right now due to the Paris Air Show). (And yes, your ride DOES have that special feel to it that I really liked, A.J. The CBC clone knocked my head off- and got 'demerit' points when I ranked it.) As for the new 'points' system for the ToTW contest: Perhaps we should explain that we're changing up the system officially starting tommorow- and explain the earlier you get your park in, the better it is for a potential 'win' in the challenge. Any thoughts about this?
robbalvey
yeah, let's do B&M Sitdown looping - it's common, people love it, and they probably already have tons of tracks they've already created that they can submit.
