CCI Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Well the title say's it all. I'm heading northeast next summer and will be heading to a few parks. If I can only go to one of these two which would you recommend?
SharkTums Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Skip one of the other parks you're planning and hit both of these. SFGAd has one of the best woodies on the planet and SFNE has one of the best steelies on the planet.

Were already going to SFOT in July while in Texas, and my parents aren't huge on the park deal. I was lucky to convince them to get us Carowinds season passes. EDIT: I just saw the north east trip, and that would be perfect! Though I'm too young to go.
Brad Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 ^If you're already going to SFOT during the summer, just buy a season pass/play pass (currently $54.99 for a play plass) and then you can visit SFGAdv and SFNE free! That's less than $20 a park.

I am considering doing a similar trip featuring SFGAdv, Hershey, Dorney, Knoebels, KD, BGW and SFA. I have had some great suggestions, but considering the realistic price I may do either the Virginia or New England parks on another trip. Thanks in advance for the helpful advice you offer.
SharkTums Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 ^It's not 'difficult' it's just annoying and time consuming. You have to drive through one of the biggest cities in the world. And yes, locals, I know you don't actually have to drive THROUGH it, but you'll be in the area and that can lead to annoyances.

Though I'm too young to go. ok seriously dude, this is my life story . i dragged my parents to SFMM when we were on vacation in LA, CP from Cleveland, and to BGT when were on Sanibel Island. I can't remember the last time I went to a park not as a single rider because they hate rides.
MJL12785 Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 For me this is a no brainer. I live about 2.5 hrs from both parks and have been to both. SFGA is the much better choice in my opinion if you can only pick one park. SFNE does have Bizarro which is one of the best steel coasters. They have two wooden coasters and they are only ok and rough. The also have Mind Eraser which is a 2 seater inverted Vekoma design I believe. Again, this is ok but it does bump you forward quite a bit into the harness. Batman, which is a floorless coaster which is good also. SFGA has Nitro, while not quite as good as Bizarro at SFNE it doesn't make the SFNE trip worth it by itself. NItro is still a great coaster. SFGA is putting in Green Lantern (Chang) in 2011 as well. They also have Bizarro which is a floorless coaster which is longer and better than the floorless at SFNE. Add in Batman, an inverted B&M design, Superman, Kingda Ka and El Toro which in all honestly really spoiled me as far as coasters go. AWESOME DROP and doesn't let up at all through the entire ride. Oh yeah, NO BRAKES either until you reach the end of the ride. Most of all, have fun! Mike

As far as coasters are concerned, you will get FIVE (count 'em) B&Ms, as well as El Toro (which I personally prefer to SFNE Bizarro), and the tallest roller coaster in the world. While SFNE is a nice park, their collection just cannot compare.
CCI Posted February 16, 2011 Author Posted February 16, 2011 As of right now It look's like it's going to be SFGADV due to the fact that my cousin will be going with us and also It's in between my aunt & uncle's house in Philly and the cruise in New york. One last question, My family and I are six flags virgins. We've been to a fair bit of Cedar fair, and Seaworld INC parks. What can we expect service/cleanliness compared to those parks?
larrygator Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 (edited) ^Food service is generally real slow even at the places that are supposed to be quick service. Operations are very good on Nitro, El Toro, Bizarro, and Batman: The Ride. Very slow on Superman: Ultimate Flight, Rolling Thunder and Kingda Ka. Over the past 2-3 years SFGAdv has become very clean from a standpoint that many roamers walk around picking up loose garbage and every bathroom has someone stationed at it and they keep it clean. I used to hate using the bathrooms at SFGAdv, but not over the past 2-3 years. Now whether any of this changes with the new ownership is to be determined, but I fear the worst as new management is doing a lot of cost cutting. Edited February 16, 2011 by larrygator
coasterbill Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 To make that ride drive a lot faster, I suggest the EZ-PASS. I used to drive up and down the Jersey Turnpike twice a week and that thing is a life saver. Also, to avoid NYC as much as possible (IF you DO go to SFNE), don't go over the George Washington Bridge. Head towards the lower level, get off in Fort Lee (right before the bridge) and make a left. That puts you on the Palisades Parkway... take it to the Tappan Zee Bridge, you'll save time and money and avoid NYC traffic as much as possible.

In my opinion it's best to start on the right side of the park with Batman and Nitro, get several rides on each, go through the middle (which is mostly less thrilling rides), go on anything that interests you, than hit Bizarro, El Toro, Superman, Green Lantern, and Kingda Ka in order. This will allow you to be going against the general movement of the crowds. The downside of this is that you'll probably get less rides on Toro. SFGA is an overwhelmingly coaster-heavy park, and there are no must-ride flats, however if something looks interesting, go ahead and ride it. There is Twister, which is a HUSS Top Spin. And it is definitely possible to do the majority of the park in a day without a Flash Pass, depending on when you go. But if you're worried about crowds, it might be best to be safe and get one. And most importantly, have fun!

Does anybody know for sure of any places who are offering any good deals/coupons on admission? I've heard that everybody from McD's, Wendy's, Coke and Wawa's has done things in the past. 2. Are the meal vouchers really a good deal? They seem really overpriced, (even by Six Flags standards).

Anyone that tells you NOT to go to the two best rides, or one of the most known for mechanical trouble FIRST, doesn't know how to navigate a park. Just imagine if you went to those later, and for some reason they broke down for the remainder of the day. You tell someone "I went to Great Adventure and missed out on Batman or Nitro" and they'll go "Oh, well, did you at least get on KA and Toro?" but if you tell someone "I went to Great Adventure and missed out on El Toro" and they'd be all "Damn, that really sucks...like REALLY sucks..." Listen to Elissa and I.... we won't steer you in the wrong direction! Get a Gold Flash Pass though....you won't be disappointed. Edited May 8, 2011 by robbalvey
osm Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 That's true, but bad weather or breakdowns can happen at any point in the day. My general park strategy (without a flashpass) is to work against the crowds going the opposite direction, but maybe if you're worried about not fitting everything in at a park organized like SFGA, Robb and Elissa are right. But if you get a Gold Flashpass, than definitely go to the left side of the park and get a lot of rides on El Toro, as you won't really have to worry about lines.
