Erik Johnson
Anyone like the Final Destination movies? You may be interested to know that the third movie (coming Feb 2006) features a roller coaster accident which starts the "death" events rolling. Could they come up with something else other than a roller coaster? I found this on filmforce.ign.com. James Wong (The movie's director) standing in front of what looks like a Vekoma or Arrow coaster. Edited August 26, 2005 by Erik Johnson
zburns999
I sense a drop in theme park attendence. This is just going to make stupid gp's think that if they ride a coaster, they will be split in three, or their head will be cut off by an elevator. Just to give an example of how clueless some gp's are, I pulled a quote off the IMDB forums about the movie... The worst case scenario for a rollercoaster disaster IMHO is to set on stage one of those new inverted coasters where people ride in "cars" that are hanged down from a huge, twisted double-T-bar. In fact these are not "cars", but some sort of in-line seats, grouped together - 6 person per row, 5-8 rows in a "car". And the most important thing - the people's legs are hanging freely in the air. Now accelerate this "car" to 60mph, and put something (a heavy duty fishing line will do) to stretch across the path of the coaster (for example - just after the first descend straight in the lowest point there), and on the heigth where the people's legs will pass. (It's easy to place that peace of line there by accident! Just set the coaster alongside a riverbed and put a clumsy but enthusiastic fisherman, with a good rod and strong hands on the other side of the narrow river. And let this moron be equipped with fishing line capable to catch swordfishes or sharks...) I'll leave the rest to your imagination, as well as to the 3-4g acceleration forces on the most curves of a rollercoaster and the high blood presure in the lower limbs due to flow of adrenaline. To CUT it short - this ride in my scenario ends with 30 to 40 really DRAINED and EXHAUSTED theme-park visitors... and a new defnition for "a boot tree"... There are some posts nearly as stupid as that. Heres the link... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0414982/board/nest/23643077
Erik Johnson
^^ Ugh! Some people are just plain sick. I rather them have had a sinking oceanliner than a rollercoaster for the third movie. Edited August 26, 2005 by Erik Johnson
Imhotep
^Im sure that they didnt want to do that, because thats similar to Ghost Ship (which had a freaking awesome opening scene by the way). Heres the coasterthey are basing all the live shots on. the rest of the shots are going to be of course cgi based. I remember reading a few months ago that they built a replica of the Corkscrew on a soundstage and setup a blue screen so they can simulate a 200+ foot drop, etc. Good thing they used a company with a good track record to base the accident on.... You know where Im going with that comment..
KrakenKing
Yeah, I heard about this a few months back... still can't believe that they did all that work for one scene... that station looks good enough to be in IoA. Can't wait for this film though, I was a fan of the first two, cant' wait to see how the people die this time. I was a little confused too about the Roller Coaster preminition... I would've thought it would continue with the transportation "Theme"... Plane, Car... perhaps Train?
Imhotep
well, coasters are kind of like transportation, except they dont take you anywhere. I see what you are saying though.

Chrissie
2 b honest.... I think its a bit far fetched... I mean you can be in a car or a plane for at least an hour but no way are you ever gonna be riding a coaster for an hour, How are they gonna structure the film? Sir Clinksalot
I love the first two films, especially the first one cos I love plane crashes. But the crash scene in the second one was quite good too. I've never seen a coaster crash but it should be quite cool. And yeah the opening scene in Ghost Ship was amazing! I really wasn't expecting that to happen!

F1shy
Who knows what will happen in FD3... a roller coaster doesn't seem like a good "killer" to work with, but we'll see what happens when the movie comes out.

You may be interested to know that the third movie (coming Feb 2006) features a roller coaster accident which starts the "death" events rolling. Could they come up with something else other than a roller coaster? First, this has been posted before. And in an interview, the actress says that here FIRST VISION is on the roller coaster, and get the bad feeling, but later she says that IT ISNT TRUE. And that everything on the coaster is ok. KrakenKing
Where's that interview? I've never seen it, I've only seen the one with the story board director... and he said the premonition was going to be the Roller Coaster. About people wondering, why a roller coaster... As in the first final destination movies, they're playing with one of people's biggest fears. If you go to a theme park, and see someone staring up at the roller coaster, if you ask them why they're not going to ride, they'd probably tell you "I'm scared". If you ask why, many people answer "Because it doesn't seem safe". At school and just around I hear people saying "If it goes to slow through a loop, it will fall off the tracks", "What if the wheels fall off" or "What if the restraints open?". Of course, coaster enthusiasts know that the chance of the wheels falling off or the restraint opening is a billion to one (not including Intamin), but the GP doesn't understand this. Twister II
Ill try to find that link. But Im just really interested on how they will get the coaster to crash, mostly because rollercoasters are extreamly safe. I can only think up of break failure, but not even that because isnt part of breaking magnetic?
KrakenKing
Well, supposidly they're going to make it a restraint failure... so the restraints would open up and people would be flung all over the place... and remember "House on Haunted Hill"?... the Hulk flew off the track in that movie... even though the effect of it was 5|-|!77Y... Gotta love my 1337 skills!
Twister II
Ok, Im telling you this now I will never ever ever go see this movie, ever ever ever. Ive seen Final Destination 2, which freaked me the F out and I did have nightmares for quite a while. I rater wait til this comes on Encore at 2 at night. F1shy
Well, the director could have the coaster fly off the tracks, have the restraints open in the middle of the ride, have brake failure, anything he can imagine. To everyday, ordinary people, that would seem scary because they could start thinking that could happen to them one day. But to coaster enthusiasts like us, we would be thinking "wow wtf was this guy thinking? this would never happen..." So just step into someone else's shoes, like someone who is terrified of coasters, and just imagine what it would be like for them to see this movie. It would be horrifying. But to us enthusiasts, we KNOW that this could never happen... So I'm giving this movie the benefit of the doubt, and saying that it'll be just as good as FD1 & 2 (even though they weren't that great in the first place). Imhotep
alot of things are possible in the movie.. keep in mind whatever they decided to to will probably be very far fetched and blown way out of proportion.. With that in mind, it sucks to say but I think a rollercoaster is an excellent 'killer' . It will definately be effective on the GP, whom most of the time are glad they are still alive after riding a big coaster for the first time. a little off topic, but I am really looking forward to this movie the most. Imhotep
You havent seen it?? What are you doing? whatever it is, stop doing it, and go rent the movie now! Its so good. The dialouge between the main characters can be a tad cheesy at times, but overall the whole movie, premise, storyline is amazingly creepy! Twister II
I LOVED Saw, I cant wait til the second one! Its not really a scary movie, its more of...like, it gets into your head, and not to spoil the ending, but at the end I just wanted to scream, hehe. WillMontu
I remember seeing a movie sometime back that "starred" the SCBB Giant Dipper. A small device in the train dictated control of the brakes and the lift (what do they put in those Morgan trains?). In the end, the upstop wheels all simultaneously failed and the coaster flew off the tracks in a poor computer generated scene.

I'm pretty sure the movie you are talking about is the famous 1977 fim Rollercoaster.
