bellhop96
I just wanted to hear some opinions on the new Toy Story Playland at the Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Resort Paris and at Hong Kong Disney (2012 ish) I loved the Toy Story movies and the rides that disney have made out of them ( Buzz Lightyears Astro Blasters, Buzz Lightyears Space Ranger Spin, Toy Story Midway Mania and the associated disney shows and character spots) However i don't think that the new area fits into the studios at Disneyland Paris. The studios in Paris have a very cosy feel of rides based on popular movies e.g. Armageddon, Finding Nemo, Aladdin and Cars and thus it would seem that Toy Story Playland would fit in here as Toy Story is/was a popular movie franchise. My problem with this is that apart from cars and Crush the studios are very 1930's Hollywoodish and not 2000's kids movieish. I simply believe that iff the studios continue to add toon rides and shows and even areas this park will lose it's special Hollywood feel. Anyone agree or disagree? As for Hong Kong, The Magic Kingdom is for traditional Disney rides and more old fashioned feeling rides and certainly not for movies. Rant over. What do you guys think? Save the Studios! Rant over. What do you guys think? Yeah, Hong Kong Disneyland certainly has NO attractions based on movies! Tarzan's Treehouse Festival Of The Lion King Buzz Lightyear's Astroblasters Stitch Encounter Dumbo Sleeping Beauty's Castle Mad Hatter's Teacups Winnie The Pooh Mickey's Philharmagic (Featuring scenes from Aladdin, Lion King, Peter Pan, etc) The Golden Mickeys (An entire stage show revolving around songs from Disney movies) In summation, what the heck are you talking about? bellhop96
Ok, when you walk into a Magic Kingdom park do you want to go past Piates of the Caribbean or walk down Main Street USA to find a Toy Story Playland! Think about it this way- Main Street USA, Tomorrowland, Adventureland (Pirateland), Fantasyland, TOY STORY PLAYLAND! And i do see your point about the movie thing but this is a whole land! G$ Kurt
I Think I get what you mean, but I have to disagree. I was wary of the TS Playlands too, but after seeing the finished product I am all for it. It may not be the best "land" disney has created, but is far from the worst. Wes
^I have to walk through Main Street to get to Toontown... I know that, But don't you see how this could change Disney for bad! The problem is that you are equating the market for US based parks with the foreign properties. Hong Kong is a very different market than the US or even Europe. Many kids in Hong Kong and mainland China aren't even familiar with "classic" Disney characters like Dumbo, Pinocchio, and Snow White. Infact, one of the big challenges from the Hong Kong Disneyland opening was that guests didn't know who many of the characters were, or why they should care to do something like ride on a funny looking flying elephant. What the Hong Kong market DOES know is the more current stuff: Toy Story and other Pixar brands. Adding a whole Toy Story land makes perfect sense for that market. robbalvey
I don't understand why this is a big deal. How is this different from, in the 50s and 60s when they did rides based on the movies of that time - Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Dumbo, Swiss Family Robinson, etc, etc... Or in the 80s and 90s when they did rides based on movies franchises of that time - Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Honey I shrunk the kids... So now they are doing rides and attractions based on today's movie licenses - Toy Story, Nemo, Monsters Inc, Cars, etc. I don't get where you're coming from. If you're asking why doesn't Disney do more "non-movie tie in rides" like Pirates or Haunted Mansion anymore, well, who says they don't, or aren't going to? Last time I checked, very popular and pretty recent rides like Journey to the Center of the Earth, Test Track, Mission: Space, Expedition Everest or Soarin' weren't direct movie tie-ins. These days it's very hard to spend $100 - $200 million on an unknown franchise or property. To answer your question - I think the Toy Story land fits in just fine and I think you'll find most people will that the "WTF are you talking about???" reaction to your question. --Robb Edited October 9, 2010 by robbalvey

I love Bugsland at DCA and Toy Story Playland looks really good. --Jay

You did share your opinion, and then YOU ASKED US FOR OURS! And you're you're all butt hurt because people disagreed with you? Pathetic! Basic rule of thumb - if you're not prepared to hear someones answer, don't ask a question! --Robb EDIT: Elissa already basically said the same thing - glad we're on the same page!
