thrillrider
I have been meaning to post these pictures, but just kept forgetting. So here they are. This is a combination of a few trips to dorney park that I made a few years ago. I believe it was the last year that the laser coaster was there. On the way to the park from Michigan I saw this sign. I don't know what to think about a company with the name "fag". We also swung by the old tiger stadium to watch a little bit of the demo work. It was sad to see, as I spent a lot of time watching tigers games there when I was a kid. Sigh... Yayyy...we made it!!! When we arrived at the gate, the clouds started to roll in. As soon as we set foot in the park, the rain started to fall. I think I will skip this. It cost's extra to ride this. Did not ride the wave swinger. The wild mouse coaster. See!!! It started to rain harder, so I ducked into the game time grille for a quick beer. But when I saw that they wanted almost $8 for a beer, I passed on it. The last time I was at the park, they were building this. Nice sign. Looks like a great ride. I don't think anyone in the park that day could read. It was just one line that was not moving because people did not know there were 2 lines. Duck!!! Station shot. Jojo roll in all it's green glory. The ride fits into the land very well. Sigh....... I totaly cought this guy with a hand full of boob. By time I got the shot off, his woman moved his hands. The park has a tilt a whirl. It was built into the ground. Drool.... They took this ride out to put demon drop in this year. Drool... Did you know? awww Thunderhawk....Wait....Where have I heard that name before? Failed try at getting a cool shot. Scrambler. Thunderhawks lift hill. They seem happy. While in line for thunderhawk, I was able to get a few shots of steel force. Thunderhawk station. History. Anyone know why there is a sunroof in the lift hill motor building? Lift hill porn. It's a decent coaster, but not gonna make it on my top 10. Ok...time for some steel force. Random fact....Did you know that this sign was supposed to be for the banshee coaster at cedar point, untill cedarpoint changed the name of banshee to mantis. More facts..... In case you forgot what coaster you are in line for, they remind you. Station shot My chariot has arrived. Is it a coaster car, or a bath tub? This looks like good sex. Me like. One last look at the airtime greatness. Is this what they are talking about when they say "get bent"? Rode this...it was lame. I guess it had a lot to do with riding max air a few days ago. Interesting kiddie ride. Rockets and horses. Remember this? I really loved this ride. Random shot. Swooping turns. The ride had some weird looking footers. Station shot. Interesting geek shot. People loved this ride. Wood blocks kept this ride off the ground. Double loops. Transfer track area. One last look. Next up... Meh...These type coasters are ok, but not my favorate. They got this coaster from geauga lake. Cool color choice for the monster ride. This ride is tha whip. Drop tower ride. I skipped it this time around, as I am more of a coaster person. Wow...a cedar fair park with trees. They had one of the coaster dynamix working models in a gift shop. Random flat ride. The name of this show says it all. The chicks in this show were HOT!!! Next up... I really like the B&M inverts, and this one is great. Station shot. The train to nowhere... Random shot that I like for some reason. On the way out, I snapped a shot of the halloweekends herse.
thrillrider
I like this park, but is it just me, or does it seem to be missing something?
mightbeawannabe
What (if any), is the difference between a jojo roll and a heartline roll?
YoshiFan
I like this park, but is it just me, or does it seem to be missing something? I feel that a GCI and a Dark Ride would made the park complete. The park also has a bad habit of removing a ride every time they get a new ride. Krazy Kars removed for Demon Drop, Laser was removed at the end of the season Voodoo was added, Torpedo Tubes removed when Aqua Racer was added, Hercules removed for Hydra etc. The train used to have a much longer track and take you to the waterpark with a stop there but they got rid of that stop and made the track shorter when Talon was built. sspaz1000
Great pictures I'm guessing you went in 2008? Since it has Possessed has the Voodoo name? And as for Dorney, I think it's just missing the atmosphere, it used to be a nice park, but in my opinion over the years the quality of staffers, and people going there (along, the rude, ignorant, line cutting type people), has made Dorney a less than desirable park. Even though it's what we would classify as my "home" park, I just don't see the appeal all that much anymore (besides to ride awesome coasters). KDcoasterMAN
^ What I've heard of Dorney is it is a second rate CP. It has some good quality rides and coasters but nothing to give it true definition. KD was very similar. I305 has finally given it a defining ride and made the park feel more complete. A GCI woodie would be a great addition to the park. I expect alot of CF parks getting GCI woodies
thrillrider
I don't think there is much if any difference between a jojo roll, and a heartline roll. I guess you go thru a heartline twist a lot faster. The fact that you go into it before the lift may also have something to do with it.
coastercrutchfield
I think they're the same. The only reason it's called that is because it was named after one of the manager people or something
thrillrider
I can't remember, but does dorney have bumpercars?
Band-Aid
I think they only had those weird hovercar things (which are gone now)
FeelTheFORCE
Awesome pics! I was there the same year and was fortunate enough to ride Laser before it was taken out. Great ride, sad to know it won't be there if I go back. I really like Dorney Park, though and hope to return someday. I think it's a very underrated park, and definitely overlooked because of SFGAdv so close by.
thrillrider
Thank's. Yea, it's a nice medium sized park. It's a nice stop on the way to or from all the other parks in the area.

Yeah...coaster wise, I think they are lacking something. Not sure what would fill that void, but a nice GCI would be nice. I don't know about that though, don't the people that live next to the park complain a lot about noise?
thrillrider
A few more shots... Getting close Shade....It makes a world of differance at any park. Unlike the wicked twister at cedarpoint, voodoo has a holding brake on the rear spike. Games midway. How many garbage cans do you need? Talon station. tatertot3710
I believe it's now a traveling coaster in Germany. Dorney Park doesn't have any bumper cars after they took out the Krazy Kars. I've gotta agree about what everyone at the beginning of the thread said. Although it's my home park and I have a pass there, it's missing something, and the types of people that go there take a lot of the charm away from the park. YoshiFan
They do get noise complaints but it doesn't seem to be as much of an issue anymore since Voodoo and Demon Drop are both noisy rides. I really wish the people would stop complaining, it was their decision to move near the park and the park is older than anyone living there so it's not like they didn't know the park was there. I agree the location hurts it. It is tough being in between Hershey and Great Adventure with some of the greatest coaster collections in the country. If Dorney was somewhere without a lot of parks near by I think it would be considered a better park. Not many parks have 2 B&M's and a hyper (I know there is more to the park than that but those seem like the standout rides)
Sir Clinksalot
Cool pics. I'm still sad they removed Laser as it was the best ride in the park along with Steel Force and Talon. I didn't think Thunderhawk was bad other than the terrible trims that ruined the ending of the ride.

RomanHORSEman
I'm going to Dorney on monday for the first time ever! I'm really stoked for Hydra, and Talon. I'm also going to hershey the two days before. Anything to know about Dorney I couldnt find out online?
thrillrider
It's a medium sized park, and you should have no problem doing it all in a half day.The coasters can all be done in a few hours, and beyond that, the park has a neat log ride and a classic whip ride. If you get bored at the park, knobles is not to far away. A few years ago, we did dorney park, and then left there around 3 or 4 when we did everything we wanted to do and we headed to knobles for the rest of the night. tatertot3710
It's a full day park if you decide to do the waterpark. But get there early or before it closes.
thrillrider
I have never been to the water park at dorney, but I hear it's nice. I am not a big waterpark person though.
YoshiFan
It is a great waterpark for being included with park admission. 15 different slides, 2 lazy rivers, 2 wavepools, play structure, inner tube rapids ride and 4 kiddie areas. The only problem is that since it is the main draw for Dorney that is where the lines are. In July and Auust the weekdays the waterpark is jammed and on the weekends it is wall to wall people until 6:00 - 6:30.
thrillrider
I do like the water park because it makes the lines for the coasters, shorter.
