the ghost Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 ^^ Ladders suck, if I am on something shaking I get a little nervous, like on the sky tower at WCB I felt it moving and freaked a little. Anyway, its no big deal. In the darkest way ever to comfort someone, if you fall 200 feet the inevitable effect is the same as if you were to fall 300 feet, only if you fall 300 feet you live longer. I believe all of the gigga coasters also have a perfect safety record also, so have a good time and a great ride on I 305, and you'll have a new credit.
Sebascoaster Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 (edited) Hi! I live in Argentina and the most extreme I have experienced is a Skycoaster (230 feet), an SLC (very smooth) and a Vekoma Boomerang (terribly rough and painful) I very much enjoy the SLC and I love the intense drop the Skycoaster. But the boomerang, it gives me pain all over my body, and also it leaves my heart beating extremely strong. The first drop and the rest of the layout leaves me breathless. For that reason, I hate the boomerang, I can't enjoy. I thinks will die, even after finishing the ride. should I avoid riding mega, giga and hypercoasters, given my experience with boomerang? Sorry, my English sucks. Edited March 29, 2010 by Sebascoaster
thrillrideseeker Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 Bad? No... MF is a blast, and honestly Top Thrill Dragster is over to fast for it to be "bad" the anticipation waiting for the launch is the worst part of Dragster. Like others have said 300 is just a number! It is not going to be much different than your 200ft coasters other than... well the are slightly higher, and a tid bit faster! But they are a blast so just take a ride on I305, and you will love it! What's the worst that could happen? You get off the ride and not like it? Highly doubt that will happen, and I assure you that you are NOT going to die on them, so don't be scared! Take the Nike approach, and "Just Do It!" ~Matthew
DOCTOR DOOM!!! Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I believe all of the gigga coasters also have a perfect safety record also, I'm not trying to scare anyone but didn't Steel Dragon 2000 have a wheel assembly failure that left it SBNO for around about 3 years?! This hasn't happened to any of the Intamin Hypers or Gigas, but has happened to a couple of Morgan coasters, including Wild Thing and the aformentioned Steel Dragon 2000!
FeelTheFORCE Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 ^ Also, didn't someone hit their hand off one of Millennium Force's supports on the first overbank? You can see how they modified it and took a fairly large chunk out of it so no one else could do the same.
JEAPUgrad Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I think it's a little funny that those who say 300 is just a number are also over forty years in age. LOL
rcdude Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 The only difference between a 200 foot coaster and a 300 foot coaster is the length of time it takes to go down the first hill. After the first drop, there is no noticable difference.
Sebascoaster Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 (edited) I regret posting this again. but someone could answer me? I would like to know your opinion Thank you! Mechanic Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 ^ Boomerangs are fairly intense rides. Many smaller and more compact layouts can be considerably more forceful than taller or larger coasters. I would judge each coaster on its own merits, rather than expecting it to ride a certain way based on its height or size.
Skycoastin Steve Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 ^ Also, didn't someone hit their hand off one of Millennium Force's supports on the first overbank? You can see how they modified it and took a fairly large chunk out of it so no one else could do the same. There was supposedly a guy who used to smack that support on purpose coming around that turn, but nobody ever lost a hand on the ride. I'm not sure if that's what you're asking, but that's the answer.
jray21 Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 The only 300+ coaster I have ridden is Steel Dragon 2000, and I was very disappointed. It was just meh. The drop wasn't that steep, and there wasn't any airtime. The most intense part was the lift hill! So it all depends on the ride whether it is too intense or not.
hill71 Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 My first 300 footer was MF. I used to be deathly afraid of new rides (especially roller coasters). I did so much research on MF the I was to excited for the experience to ever be scared. You need to ride a giga sometime in your life! Its an experience that you will never forget or regret. As I have ridden more coasters, I do realize that they are a little overrated, but bad? Definitely not.
KDCOASTERFAN Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 I first want to say that over the past year I have made great strides in becoming a coaster enthusiast. I rode my first 200+ roller coaster and have loved every ride on one since. I love the airtime and like to leave a click or so space just for that. However, when I made a huge trip with my parents to Ohio and visited Cedar Point, King's Island, Geauga (sp?) Lake I had to pass on Millennium Force and TTD, because honestly, while I am now greatly comfortable with HyperCoasters, I am still hesitant about the Gigacoaster. With a King's Dominion trip in my future and the hope of riding I:305, I wanted to know how bad the 300+ coasters REALLY are compared to ones like Diamondback or Apollo's Chariot. First time experience stories are great welcome. Like so many others have said the height difference really shouldn't be a problem, the anticipation you'll get in the queue is probably more fear inducing than the ride itself. So far SFA's ROS is the tallest coaster I've been on(that is until next week on I305) & I had no real problems with it at all.Even my first looper(anaconda @ KD) was more terrifying than that almost 20 years ago but I forced myself to ride & had a good time & learned that it was NOWHERE near as bad as I thought it would be & I think you'll find that out as well once you've done it.
