robbalvey Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Hey everyone, I am researching a new dedicated server hosting company for TPR. Can you please let me know if you are aware of any companies with a good track record? We are looking for a dedicated server (NOT a shared hosting company) that is fully managed by the server company. The server would need to be very high end as far as system specs go with a lot of bandwidth covered (about 2-3tb per month) with about 1tb of hard drive storage. Please let me know if you have any suggestions! Thank you! --Robb
themeparkologist Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 ^What's wrong with the current one? Other than we got hacked...
SharkTums Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 ^How about you either answer the question or don't post in the thread. Thanks.
MG Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Robb, are you looking at Windows or Linux servers? Do you have a preference of country? I know that in the UK, Rackspace fares fairly well with generally favourable reviews. The problem is that is a seriously powerful server you're talking about, I'm sure most companies will make one for you, but are unlikely to have any that powerful pre-configured.
cgodsey Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 www.webhostingtalk.com go under Advertising Forums and then Web Hosting Offers
Reality15 Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 I've been using DreamHost.com's dedicated servers for three years now (my fourth starts on the 15th), and I've never once had a problem with them. If you want to read more about them, the link is: http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting-dedicated.html I'd definitely recommend them if you're looking at a place to move the site to, as their tech support is great, and best of all, they speak English!
timfreeman Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Check out SpeedSpan.net A local company that I've used for years. Not sure on pricing, but the servers are reliable and kept up to date. Mention my name and it may get a deal, maybe not.
crazydaveh Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 I use 1and1 for several sites and have had very few problems. I also use GoDaddy, but that's a shared server.
timfreeman Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 I also use 1and1 for a personal site, but it doesn't seem as fast. Maybe it's the plan level, but I've always been a fan of smaller companies with personal support.
jamesdillaman Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 I also use GoDaddy, but that's a shared server. I don't think personally that GoDaddy would have what you need. I'm sure you already know that, though. Are you looking for a windows or a linux server? Do you even have a preference? -James Dillaman
disneyfan1313 Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 I've heard good things about atlantic.net . They are based in Orlando and have a good rep around here and I know they do dedicated servers.
jamesdillaman Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Here's an article in webhost magazine rating servers... I don't know if it helps any, but they seem to like rackspace, too. http://www.webhostmagazine.com/bg/DisplayReview.asp?revID=281 -James Dillaman
Shavethewhales Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 I've been a developer for several years now and have hosted sites at a variety of places. I have to say that Liquid Web has been by far the best hosting provider I've worked with, and many of my co-workers have said the same. They've been able to sort out any of my server issues within a few minutes on the phone, and I'm never on hold. After the initial call, they keep up with me via email or calling me back. They have never left me hanging wondering what's going on. They're very reliable and have a large operation going. http://www.liquidweb.com/ Also, media temple seems to be favored highly by a few of the clients I've worked with. I've found they have a somewhat clumsy management system to work through (on smaller set-ups, at least), but they also have good support and reliability. http://mediatemple.net/
