Mochtroid
Sad that this is on my birthday. Is there an emergency donation drive or something?
Eric_Smith
Not that I can see. I wonder if it is a money issue, or if someone just does not want to keep up the site. I will gladly take it over!
Twister II
Coaster Sims, Coaster Crazy, NLDC, what's next? The game gets discontinued!?!
Real
Coaster Crazy is up and running...not sure what youve been smoking. It got attacked, its cool now. Copied FROM CoasterCrazy.com, an exact quote from the NLDC owner, Phil: NLDC costs virtually nothing to run. It's minor expenses are covered by pocket change, and my time and the time of the various site admins. The few google ads more than covered the domain name expenses, which was the only real expense. I decided long ago that I did not wish to continue maintaining the back end and dealing with user support issues, spam attacks, and people using the site as a general image host rather than NoLimits project presentations as intended. Last night I set a date to close it. It is what it is. There's no need to assume there is some wierd greed related motivation. Selfish with my time and energy, perphaps, but not monitary greed. Site content will be archived, but not publically accessible. The site will not be handed over to a new owner or host due to obvious data privacy concerns. There's a possibility that it may re-open in the future, but probably not until after a new NL release, should it ever come to pass.
haux
NoLimits is still really popular. Lots of parks use NL footage when rides are announced. It's weird that things seem to be falling apart on the fan level.
themeparkman25
When did NLDC stop registering people because every time I have tried to register for it, it says it is temporarily closed due to high levels of spamming or something like that. Qixote
At least NLDC had the courtesy of notifying people, unlike most other websites that go bust.
awclark
I can totally understand where the owner is coming from in shutting this down. While it IS slightly disappointing because I won't be able to keep complete track of many peoples projects I was interested in, it will just make it more surprising when I see a track from a certain designer pop up now and again. It does seem like NL is falling apart on the fan-base level though. It seems like all that's left now is Coaster Crazy and various forums to post progress updates and downloads. It is what it is though.
haux
Noooo! With the NLDC shutting down, we won't have people complaining here when someone links to it instead of uploading the pictures to their post.
Real
Yea. It means I wont be able to advertise my rides till they are done.
RiscIt
*Have* you released a ride lately? I may even re-install NL if that's the case.
Real
Just competed in a contest actually. Ive restarted a bunch of older rides. Still going to be awhile, but I think once August kicks in Ill have a lot more free time. I wouldnt have reinstalled all my stuff for no reason I think Im going to finish a few side projects, nothing major before I move onto finishing my major projects. I think The final version of Dragster will be the first major project considering all I need are more pictures for textures. The 3d modeling I dont think will be very hard but this time I may actually try to guage rough measurments and in max make sure its all 100% to scale. Which I think might speed it up. Nicely played Phil, nicely played
Eric_Smith
Hey, Real, how far would you be on this project?
Real
Ive found an old max file that contains 90% of the terrain. Gotta redo some areas and redo the spine. Other than that, actually like 10% less than what I used to have since I lost that newer file. But its one that once Im in a 3d modeling mood, Ill spend 2-3 hours and bust the terrain out pretty quickly. lots of easy meshes to work with. Eric_Smith
Can we expect to see a release sometime in the near future, or is this project on the short end of ones to finish?
Real
Short end. Who knows. I may completely redo it if Newton 2 gets here in decent time. Trackwork is good, but can always be better. I wouldnt get your hopes up. Biggest problem was I intended for it to have a Nemesis feel, even with the surrounding area, but it would be little more than a station and the track. Just too much I didnt plan out.
Eric_Smith
Any chance you can email me the current version for testing?
Real
No real reason for testers. Its been tested and not much else to be seen that I dont intimatly know about the track. Theres no real supports except in 2 locations. There are a few quirks Id love to change but that would only happen if Newton2 gets here this year. I dont usually test. Im pretty much an extreme perfectionist. Only thing Id need a tester for is for them to say its "good enough" because Ill always say its not good enough. Hence why it takes me so long to get things done...stupid perfectionist personality.
CCJared
Any chance you can email me the current version for testing? Real Emailed me the track a few years ago. I loved it, BT was flawless.
