DBru Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Designed for a wooden coaster contest here at TPR, Savage is an insane TGG woodie that never lets up. With nearly 6,000ft of track, a 170ft lift hill, and speeds of up to 67mph, Savage is one of the wildest rides you will ever experience. Because of its setting, back in the deep woods of Mississippi, surprises await you around every turn. Savage has a great blend of high and low banked turns, strong lateral g-forces, plenty of positive g's, and more than a dozen moments of intense airtime. This is definitely one insane, untamed beast. BelgianGuy Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 MY GOD THAT WAS AWESOME The pacing was sublime Trackwork was very smooth IMO Airtime!!!!!!!!!! Nice layout, nothing out of the ordinary but executed very well One of the best NL woodies I've seen in a very long time 9.5/10
DiSab Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Absolutely fantastic. Very reminiscent of both The Beast and The Voyage. Extremely smooth, great speed - especially because it keeps it up throughout until the brakes. 9/10
Xpress Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Well... Trackwork was pretty good, although didn't have the shapping of the big guns (too smooth). Supports really sucked IMO, and there wasn't enough of them in the turns, where bracing is critical. Forces were decent, but could have been a bit more hoppy. 7.5/10
DBru Posted May 23, 2009 Author Posted May 23, 2009 ^Too smooth? I don't understand what you mean... Thanks for all the comments, guys. They are really appreciated!
Xpress Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 ^Too smooth? I don't understand what you mean... Thanks for all the comments, guys. They are really appreciated! A wooden coaster generally isn't smooth and flowing like you have it. Intamin woodies are like that, but what can you expect? It's Intamin. Wooden coasters generally have round turns, quick transitions, and sloppy bankings (yes, you have the bankings). The heartlines (believe it or not, wooden coasters have a heartline!!) are also varying, depending on where the element is placed, and how it is constructed. I.E. the entrance to a pullout may have no heartline, whereas the entrance to a turn comming into an airtime hill may have a heartline. The hills are also round, for the mostpart. Some are parabolic, like in the beginning of the coaster, but towards the ending they start to become rounded. Also, drops are mainly rounded.
Qixote Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 So basically, if you make a smooth wooden coaster, you are criticized for it being too smooth. If you make it intentionally rough, you get criticized that is not smooth and is pumpy. Feels like I'm at CS all over again. I thought this was an excellent woodie. It was not "too smooth", it had some of the same roughness that the best large terrain woodies have. The supports were fine also (not perfect everywhere, but they don't suck). Exceptional use with the terrain. Great job!
rollerboy Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Xpress once again I'm going to dis-agree with you. If what you're saying is correct, that means woodies are built to be rough. Which they're obviously not. I think the smoother the better in every coaster. But hey, who am I?
MrX8991 Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 What I liked + Pacing. The train flies through the course and there's never a dull moment! + Airtime. Lots of airtime, especially on the final stretch. + Landscape. I love the woods and the water and felt it really complimented the coaster. + Smoothness. It was smooth. Enough said. What I didn't like - Supports. On the bigger hills, the supports were pretty ugly Overall Awesome work! 9/10!
DBru Posted May 24, 2009 Author Posted May 24, 2009 Thanks for the feedback! I've added a POV of the ride to the first post, for those of you without NL.
dr.gumbo Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 I don't think a woodie can be 'too smooth'. It's the shaping which makes a ride aggressive, not the trackwork. Anyhow, here's what I though (from the video perspective, my computers far too slow to appreciate it in the simulator): What I liked -The great trackwork. -The superb pacing throughout. -The Legend-inspired layout. -The bunny hops at the end. What I felt could be improved -Some of the hills, especially towards the end, weren't shaped that well i.e. they seemed to jerk over the crest. -I felt the ride could have been a bit more aggressive, but that's just me. -Wasn't the most original ride in the world. My Verdict Smooth, fast, and fun. What more can you ask for (except for the above lol) 8/10

A heartline can only be applied to sections of track that rotate, since all a heartline is is a point on the car in the structural middle of it, at about the same height as the average riders heart that the train rotates around when the track is banked. (Provided the transition into the banked track is shaped correctly.
