Six Flags Enthuseast Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Ok, here's the problem. My dad is going to be in San Diego from the early 15th to the 17th. My mom was planning on just going to Knotts and Sea World San Diego. SWSD would be on the 15th or 14th when we arrive and Knott's would be on the 16th. What do you think we should do when we are at Knott's to avoid wasting time? Thanks in advance for anyone who may help!
Der_Wellenflug Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 At Knott's, depending on what rides your bodies can handle, I would try to hit all of the rides there, get anything with boysenberries in it, and try to avoid the shops unless they have something there that's really worthwhile. If you want to check which rides are currently running on the day you're going, check their website and call their hotline and listen until they give you directions on which numbers to press to get ride availability.
Six Flags Enthuseast Posted March 21, 2009 Author Posted March 21, 2009 Sounds like a plan.... I'll definitley check!
CreditCrazy Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Here's a good route to take at Knott's: Get there at opening, run to Ghosttown. Hit Ghostrider, then Pony Express. Skip Silver Bullet because it should be pretty busy right now. Continue heading north and you'll find yourself at the boardwalk. Hit everything there that you want, and hopefully all of it will be running by now. After the boardwalk head back down to Fiesta Village and do everything you want there. Continue down to Camp Snoopy, and now you should have done about everything except Silver Bullet. Ride Silver Bullet which will probably be a walk-on right now, and then re-ride anything you want.
Der_Wellenflug Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 A few rides that are actually worth riding at Knott's are the Wave Swinger, La Revolucion, Riptide, Boomerang, Montezooma's Revenge, and Pony Express. Those are musts, but the intensity of them depends on your discretion. Everything else you can ride if you have time of course, but if you're there for the whole day, by all means ride everything there!
Six Flags Enthuseast Posted March 21, 2009 Author Posted March 21, 2009 ^^That sounds like an excellent plan. Is that the one you followed for your last TR? ^I'm not sure about Boomerang, I've been on one before and it wasn't exactly the best in terms of comfort..... But I'll try anyways. And you don't think Xcelerator is worth a shot? I love Intamin coasters!
CreditCrazy Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 ^^That sounds like an excellent plan. Is that the one you followed for your last TR? Kind of, but I switched a few things around because... 1. The park was completely empty. I had everything to myself and could go to whatever. 2. Xcelerator was closed in the boardwalk and it was about to rain so Perilous Plunge was a no. So I kind of skipped the boardwalk until later, did Silver Bullet first, then Ghostrider. Skipped Pony, went back to Silver Bullet, then Boomerang, Fiesta Village, etc.
atem122 Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Yeah if you have to skip riding some things, definitely ditch boomerang, unless you're in the credit game, it's really one of those things you can miss because a) It's a boomerang and there are 50 of those b) It really hurts, and you can just simulate that by jumping off of the second story next time you're in a multi leveled building. As for Pony Express: From what I've heard (I've never been on it) it's short, boring, and kind of painful, although if I went I'd probably still ride it anyways. Make sure to ride Silver Bullet, it may be pretty forceless, but the overbanked curve and the helix make it all worth while. Oh and eat lunch at an irregular time, you can usually find shorter lines during lunch time which I'd estimate is about 12-1. Oh and wear football pads for ghost rider, you'll need them
Six Flags Enthuseast Posted March 21, 2009 Author Posted March 21, 2009 ^LOL! Ok, definitely going to consider doing that when I visit the Sears Tower next time! And I will wear football pads on Ghost Rider. Dang it, should have asked if they were necessary on Mean Streak! It's too late now for me, but just a suggestion if you consider visiting CP.
itnotfair Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Here's a rundown of the coasters at Knott's: 1. Hit Ghostrider, but be warned: its fast and has a great layout, but its pretty rough! 2. Xcelerator has an incredible launch and is a must! 3. Silver Bullet is a buttery B&M invert, and is always a good time. 4. Montezooma's Revenge is a classic Schwarzkopf, and very fun! 5. Sierra Sidewinder is a decent spinner. 6. Pony Express is really only worth riding for the credit. The same goes for Boomerang, Jaguar and Timberline Twister. If you get on the first 4 or 5 of those coasters, that's a pretty good KBF trip IMO. If you get on all of them...credit city!
socalMAN123 Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 I reccommend doing everything people have already suggested in this topic to do. However, if you're in it for the credits, there is a small park about two miles West of Knott's called Adventure City. It's tiny, it only costs ten bucks to get in, there are two credits, and one of them is actually quite fun. ---Brent
itnotfair Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 ^Don't you need a kid with you to get into that park?
CreditCrazy Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 ^Don't you need a kid with you to get into that park? He's 13, he'll be able to get in.
socalMAN123 Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 They actually don't really care. We just went in with a group of day campers last summer and they didn't care in the least. ---Brent
Six Flags Enthuseast Posted March 21, 2009 Author Posted March 21, 2009 Wow..... A lot of stuff. I'm not a "credit WHORE!!!!," but I'll do it occassionally. However, Boomerang will likely be skipped, along with a few of the uninteresting credits itnotfair mentioned. I'll see if Adventure City is worth a shot, but I doubt it, as my mom is really only looking into the big parks. Actually, itnotfair, if you want to come (since you're looking for credits), I'll PM you with a few details. TPR MULTI-MEMBER TRIPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Top Thrill Dragster Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Boomerang usually never has a line, so I suggest you do it if you have never been on a Boomerang coaster. Ghostrider, ride in a non wheel seat (first row of every car). If you do that Ghostrider is a great ride. Ride in a wheel seat, pain, pain, and more pain. Pony Express, worth a ride, its one of only two moto coasters in the US. Jaguar, has a nice queue line and is a fun ride. Make sure you ride Perilous Plunge, best water thrill ride ever. Other must do attractions for a first time visitor. Log Ride Calico Mine Ride Mystery Lodge Explore Ghost Town. Have Fun.
itnotfair Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 ^Thanks for the Ghostrider tip! I'll try it out next time for sure.
Six Flags Enthuseast Posted March 22, 2009 Author Posted March 22, 2009 Yeah, I think this could be not only a guide for me, but for anyone going on a 1-day Knott's trip. So if you ever need help with a Knott's visit, look at this thread.
Rollerman87 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 The coasters you should ride: Xcel Montezooma's Revenge Pony Express (Yes, get all three launchers ) Jaguar! Silver Bullet Ghostrider (if you don't like your body) Boomerang is very much skippable. Check out La Revolucion, Mine Ride, Log Ride, Supreme Scream, and even Hat Dance (our version of Teacups, and they go a helluva lot faster ) Is this in May, or April?
Six Flags Enthuseast Posted March 25, 2009 Author Posted March 25, 2009 Well, I figured out that my dad's ship is LATE!! (though it is VERY VERY typical of that piece of s**t FFG [fast friggit, mind the name]) So time at Knott's will be pretty close to cutting it. I believe this is April if I didn't say before, and it's when my dad has some time off of his ship.(He's in the Navy)
Crazy4Coasters! Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I'm headed to Knott's on Mar 31st and from all the times I've gone I've learned that the most efficient way is going to through Fiesta Village and going counter clockwise through the park. My average time in doing the park has been about 6-7hrs (including lunch). If you're there when the gates open you can hit Jauguar or Montezooma's Revenge, then ride the whatever coaster you didn't choose first, then head to Supreme Scream, Xcelerator or Log Ride, then you can head to Boomerang or head to lunch (BBQ Ribs and chicken are very yummy), then you can hit pony express, Ghostrider and then Silver Bullet. By that time it would be evening and the lines tend to be shorter at those times. Hope you have fun!
Rocket Rodder Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 When you go to Knott's, whatever you do you must check out the chicken dinner resturant, if you've never been there before. I assure you there's little to nothing like it ever! If you can't catch on the website or hotline what rides will be closed, as a last resort, look to the signs in the front of the park. ("All rides will be open EXCEPT _____")
