Since the hotel next door was kiind enough to donate some internet connectivity (wireless is a beautiful thing), I though I would post a couple little small updates from the road.

Shore Drive. This is where our condo resides

A shot of the "Place at the Beach" complex.

The hotel that I am stealing my wireless connectivity from

The entrance to our place for the next few days

Of course we had to stock the refridgerator ourselves

After we settled in, we headed to the pavillion for a couple hours. Unfortunately, Hurricane did not get the message that I would be in town as it will be closed for the next two weeks.

Catrina and Ang pose for a shot on the midway

Brandon and Ang pose for a shot on the Little Eagle

Number 203! Cha-Ching

The pavillion is one to one of only a couple Caterpillars operating with the canopy

Not the best shot, but I had to grab a picture of the Mad Mouse (Number 204!). This ride is a little bumpy, but that makes it a lot more crazy than the typical mouse.

With it's carnival type atmosphere, the Pavillion has a real traditional appeal to it.

More to come!

Great photo's so far Ted. Can I have some of that fabulous Rolling Rock, seeing as it's my favorite! Can't wait to read more!

Too bad the Hurricane is down, but it does disprove my theory that they never do any maintanence on it ever. I'm sure you'll love the Swamp Fox, though. It has some pretty insane airtime in the backseat at night.

Im so glad you guys had fun at the Pavilion which is only an hour from my house. Its great little park, and I totally agree with your sentiments. By any chance, was their Top Spin actually open?

The top spin was closed

I am planning on hitting the Swamp Fox tomorrow. After the whole "Closed hurricane" thing, I am hoping that it makes up for it.

Got to ride their Topspin last year, I was wanting to ride their Chaos too but it wasn't there last year, oh well. I wasn't too impressed with the Swamp Fox, I can only remember one good airtime hill.

MYRTLE BEACH PAVILION

Overall -- A beautiful, well-kept, clean park. One of my favorites actually.

Hurricane -- Rather rough and bouncy, a good ride, but it won't shake up your Top Ten.

Mad Mouse -- Arrow sure made a winner! This is easily the best mouse I've ever done (well, Kennywood's is up there). Better than Hershey's and Wild Adventures even.

Kiddie Coaster -- Interesting layout, beautiful scenery, not to be missed!

Top Spin -- Skipped it because, well... I've ridden plenty of them.

Haunted House -- Wonderful ride. I liked it almost as much as Ocean City, MD's!

Flume -- Good flume, but not as good as Family Kingdom's, if I recall.

Rapids -- Awesome rapids! Just a great, great ride, and the trough is painted sort of clay red.

FAMILY KINGDOM

Overall -- Pretty dumpy, reminded me of a carnival (with a beautiful classic woodie).

Swamp Fox -- One of those coasters that you like just because it's old and maintained well. It's a really fun ride, however, it clearly cannot compare to the wild airtime machines of today. What do you expect?... it's a John Allen

Chance Freefall -- This was such a funny ride because it SUCKED SO BAD. It fell basically at the speed an elevator would fall (ok, slight exaggeration), but it's very bad!

Flume -- Quite good, it has a tiny coaster-like section.

Yes Family Kingdom's freefall ride sucks, There is no force involved at all, the shoot-up is very forceless, and the freefall is very lame, not a good ride.

Myrtle Beach is a great place. I visited the place a week before the parks opened so I was upset since I couldn't hit the parks. We were even in between them (we stayed on first ave during my spring break) Oh well, I'll get down there another time.

Well it has been a couple days with no updates, so I figured I would log in and drop a quick line and a couple new photos.

Sunday was a "No Coaster" day at we started out our day with a few hours at the beach before heading to "Broadway" for dinner and a little nightlife.

Here we are at Broadway at the beach.

We had dinner at "Liberty" which is a brewery/restaurant. I had the pale ale and it was pretty much just a cheap BASS rip-off.

I never pass up an opportunity to get my picture next to a big pile of malt.

After Liberty it was off to Fat Tuesdays for some $1 Rolling Rocks before ...

... heading to Crocodile Rocks. Crocodile rocks is a Dueling Piano bars and is definately a fun place to spend the evening. They have two "Two Player" teams that spend all night performing sing-a-longs and requests.

They even have mirrors set up so you can see the piano players doing their thing.

Apart from the piano playing, the performers at Crocodile Rocks have a great sense of humor and do the funniest toasts.

Monday it was back to the beach. Don't I just make a terrific beach bum.

Monday also meant more coasters as I headed to Family Kingdom while everybody else was getting ready for dinner.

I couldn't believe how great the Swamp Fox PTCs looked. These things like as good as the Racer's (Kennywood) and they were completely rebuilt this year.

Welcome the the Swamp Fox. The 8th highest rated wooden coaster in the United States. WTF!

I had heard it from a couple different people, but I couldn't believe till I saw it. I have been on elevators that dropped faster than this tower.

I don't know how Family Kingdom keeps Swap Fox in such great condition. The money is definataly not "Rolling in" at this park.

The first drop gives some pretty good action in the back seat. Actually the whole ride is much better in the back.

Turnaround

This "packed" train climbs the lifthill

On my way over to Family Kingdom I noticed something that really caught me by suprise. The Hurricane was running! I guess they finished that "2 week maintenance" a little early

Overall the Hurricane is not completely awful, but the bottom of the first drop is one of the most evil moments I have encountered on any coaster.

Here is the lifthill that is situated along the shore-side of the ride. The Hurricane uses Gerstlaurer trains and overall the tracking is pretty decent. When I rode it for the first time, I was wondering what everybody was talking about as I went down the first drop. When the train hit the bottom of the first drop, it started to jack hammer harder than anything I had ever rode (including SOB). It is a shame because the laterals through the turns are actually pretty good.

Another evening gets started with a great meal from one of the local restaurants.

Our wait for dinner was much longer than the coasters I hit today.

Catrina and Ang pose for a picture while we wait to get into the Kwey West Grill.

More pics to come including The Myrtle Beach Grand Prix.

Ooo!!! I'm going to Myrtle Beach next Spring...I didn't get a chance to go ride the Hurricane last time I went. Ugh...

We went to this REALLY expensive and SMALL "Theme Park" with about 5 rides that weren't kiddie ones; and if we would've checked out the kiddie rides there would've probably been the same amount or less. The adult rides consisted of a very short and unexciting Spinning Wild Mouse, a huge Magic Carpet Ride just like those "Crazy Buses," a flat ride, bobsleds, and Bumper Boats. And worst of all it costed somewhere around $30-$40 for each person to get into this thing.

Broadway at the beach was AMAZING though...we went out to eat after that at one of the surrounding restaurants. The next day we ate at that obnoxious themed restaurant "Dicks" (the DO call it that for a reason ). I can't wait to go back again. I love how they have those little beach shops every 100 feet.

Ha, Dick's Last Resort, I really want to work there, anyway, the small, expensive park was the Myrtle Beach Grand Prix I believe. Great TR. I noticed that the Family Kingdom didn't re-apply the "Todd" from The Fox and the Hound back on the front of the trains...

Oh God! Lol! An old guy that was there had something like "I'm so old my first condom was made of wood!" And some other guy had something on his hat about screwing a chicken...ha...and to think people take their 4 year olds there!

One thing to note about MB Grand Prix is that they have, I believe, the ONLY Top Star Tour flat ride in the continental US.

Correct me if I'm wrong, of course. 8)

Nice reports Ted. Your making me miss the two things I loved most about living an hour from Myrtle Beach for 6 1/2 years. The Swamp Fox and happy hour at Liberty. Man, I gotta get back down there sometime soon.
