ernierocker Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Doesn't look like the park was open very long. At least it had a Wildcat.
thrillerman1 Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 Here's Magic Harbor in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, which according to RCDB had an Arrow Corkscrew coaster in 1975 that later moved to the Myrtle Beach Pavilion and is now operating in Colombia. Jolly Jolly Shout outs to the Brit Crew! King Charles' Pub...well at least they themed one thing Magic Mountain East Coast style?
thrillerman1 Posted March 29, 2013 Author Posted March 29, 2013 Magic Springs circa 1981...I still haven't made it to this park. One day? Oh no look out dancers...ROARING TORNADO ON FIRE! There's that Sky Hook ride again that we've seen at Dollywood and SFOG earlier in this thread. Is it the same one? Hey Elitch Gardens
thrillerman1 Posted March 31, 2013 Author Posted March 31, 2013 To wrap up March Magic Week, I'll conclude with Magic Mountain in 1978! Thanks for checking out my thread. Love the wizard and trolls, and notice the Colossus stamp...new for '78! Thank you to the 1978 MM publicity department if you happen to ever see this. I love this retro art. View of the plaza before it got cluttered. Revolution in all its early glory. Check out the Colossus model! I need a bigger scanner. I love the little troll. Revolution minus OTSR'S!!! Said it before and say it again...more parks need to bring back cable car rides. Spillikin Corners sounds a bit like Dollywood's Craftsman's Valley now.
thrillerman1 Posted June 22, 2013 Author Posted June 22, 2013 Japan is absolutely tops in the most amazing places I've ever visited with Robb and Elissa, & friends, and here's a postcard from my first ever TPR trip back in '07. Thanks again Robb, Elissa, and friends I made on this trip. I'm quite envious of all you current TPR Japan trip participants! Mind that red button, Chuck!
Nrthwnd Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 (edited) ^ You had to remind him, huh? Â Wish you were coming along with us, Mark! Â And maybe - in just a few years - it happens again - be on it! Â There we are! You, Adam and moi in that ice house (one of many we went into) at Park Espana, Sept.2007. Edited June 24, 2013 by Nrthwnd
thrillerman1 Posted June 22, 2013 Author Posted June 22, 2013 Oh yes the Japanese ice houses! Those were such a relief. Thanks for the photo, Bill, and have a blast for me!
thrillerman1 Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 The most famous piece of coaster track in the world? Tune in tomorrow.
thrillerman1 Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 I have been slacking on my updates, but here is a bit of nostalgia from my one and only visit to Cedar Point back in August 2003, exactly 10 years ago this week. Top Thrill Dragster had just opened that year - can't believe it's been 10 years already or that I waited over 3 hours to ride it (boooo to all the breakdowns it used to have)! So here are some TTD postcards I bought on that trip plus an old 1982 CP brochure from my vault...and an extra bonus at the end.
Thri!!er Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Your postcards are always a pleasure - thanks, Sir... ahem...Mr. Postcard  Thri"analog-to-digital and backwards to classic"!!er
thrillerman1 Posted August 25, 2013 Author Posted August 25, 2013 ^ Danke Thri!!er. Glad you enjoyed this update. Â I have seen a lot of people comment that Kingda Ka is not as good as TTD, but since KK was regretfully broken down on my one visit to SFGAdv, I would love to know why some people prefer TTD over KK.
larrygator Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 I would love to know why some people prefer TTD over KK. Â Lap Bar only. KK shakes a lot as it accelerates.
ernierocker Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Kingda Ka is also three different accelerations right?
Guy T. Koepp Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 It does feel like you are kinda going through gears.
thrillerman1 Posted August 30, 2013 Author Posted August 30, 2013 I would love to know why some people prefer TTD over KK. Â Lap Bar only. KK shakes a lot as it accelerates. Â That certainly makes a lot of sense then. Thanks for the education!
thrillerman1 Posted September 8, 2013 Author Posted September 8, 2013 Continuing with my previous post, here's more of the Merry-Go-Round Museum near Cedar Point in downtown Sandusky. I actually don't think I knew this place existed when I started my trip but just happened to drive by it on the way to CP, so I had to check it out. It was a nice break from CP, and their Allen Herschell carousel is gorgeous (although I still think Toshimaen's Dorado is THE most beautiful of all). Anyway I digress...Check it out when in the area! Raise your hand if you love a good merry-go-round ride! The difference between a merry-go-round and a carousel is...well apparently debatable: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=743058#p743058 Let's joust!
thrillerman1 Posted October 31, 2013 Author Posted October 31, 2013 Happy Halloween TPR friends...from Tokyo Disneyland! Even Lock, Shock, and Barrel are here! Have a howling good time!
thrillerman1 Posted January 6, 2014 Author Posted January 6, 2014 Happy 2014 TPR!!! I'll be the first to admit I've been a major slacker with updates to my thread. To remedy this I have set a goal. I want to share with the world from A-Z my amusement and theme park nostalgia collected over many years...hopefully weekly. It's really not right to hold all this collected stuff hostage in boxes in my closet, and though I'm sure there'll be several flubs, I want to do better with my thread, so....kicking off the new year and first up is Adventure City, a small but nice park just a bit down the street from Knott's Berry Farm. I really liked how Freeway Coaster leaped over that one tree branch...too cool! I'm not sure any other coasters do that. Anyway and as always, I hope you enjoy my updates, and be sure to support Robb and Elissa with TPR as well as post comments to keep me going until I eventually maybe someday get to park Z. This came in the mail back in 2006 Front Back
Nrthwnd Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 (edited) Glad you're back, and Happy New Year Mark! Â I forgot you had posted that TDL 2007 postcard. I got the same design in the t-shirt....and a coffee mug! But they took Scary Teddy off the main design, and put him on the handle of the mug. Â I will be showing it in my One Month of Mugs thread, end of this week. Â And Adventure City was a nice little park to enjoy, even without big thrills and huge attractions. Tree Top Racers were pretty good back then, when we visited. This design looks great on a black t-shirt. Edited January 12, 2014 by Nrthwnd
thrillerman1 Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 Thanks Bill, and we must've bought the same mug! I still like to take it to work during Halloween.
thrillerman1 Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 Alabama Adventure (aka Visionland) circa 2007...sadly Rampage sits and rots as the owners continue converting the park into a water park. Under potentially different future ownership, do you think the dry park side could make a comeback?
thrillerman1 Posted January 19, 2014 Author Posted January 19, 2014 Here's a retro look at Alton Towers for your perusement. I only visited AT once in 1986 and don't remember much at all of this park, but I *think* there was a crazy flume jump ramp ride. Maybe my mind deceives me. Am I crazy or did it exist? I survived the Arrow Corkscrew (according to my coffee mug I still have). I can't believe I kept that sugar packet all these years. Shout outs to the TPR Brit Crew!
