montezooma
I love those old postcards from Carowinds. It has always been one of my favorite parks and I love to see it in its earlier years. Thanks for posting them. Â I have one to add.
thrillerman1
^^ restoca I think that is our first Australian postcard submission. Nice! I like the sea life stamps too. Â ^ I find it interesting that the Vortex description on the back of the postcard says the coaster includes a "B & M 'Flat-Spin'".
montezooma
^ I find it interesting that the Vortex description on the back of the postcard says the coaster includes a "B & M 'Flat-Spin'". Â Isn't that what B&M calls their corkscrews? Flat spins?
thrillerman1
Yes I think so Shane. I was just humored that Carowinds included such coaster dork terminology on a general public type postcard. Last time I checked, the GP really didn't know or care what a B & M or Flat-Spin is, but maybe times have changed.
montezooma
I wonder what the GP thinks when they hear the term B&M. It still makes me a little uncomfortable every time I hear it. It takes my back to my childhood when my aunt used to ask "Do you have to go BM?"

montezooma
Hey Mark- Â Remember this park? After riding Goliath I was ready to head out after 20 minutes. Yawn. Amazing effort went into creating the back of these cards. Behold the Magic!
thrillerman1
Yes it's too bad Xpress was down and Robin Hood was just ok. They did have a nice giant wheel on which I enjoyed freezing. It was seriously gusting some forceful winds at the top. One other ride I enjoyed at Walibizzle was the forwards/backwards flume. Otherwise the park was rather lackluster. So yeah...what is such an awesome ride like Goliath doing in that park?!?! Â The backside of that card is simply astounding!!!!
Nrthwnd
Here's five Magic Mountain cards I picked up, on an early 1980s visit I believe. Not too exciting, but still, not bad for their time, lol. Â Sorry if the printing on the back of the cards is somewhat out of focus. I don't scan stuff too often, so the printing may be a bit 'fuzzy'. Â Enjoy... "world's largest steel roller coaster" Not any more, hmmm? One more of the Rev. "for the ultimate experience" (o: Colussus at nightfall. Popular in it's day. Freefall! And the back of it's card. Roaring Rapids. And the back of the card. Good old Revolution. montezooma
Lets go back a couple of years ago, well actually many years ago... way before Raptor. It sure was a different view back then something is missing from this postcard
SeaWhippet
This is a great card, but I was wondering if anyone noticed that the actual pic is from the days when the ride was at Paragon ... an early cut-and-paste. Â BTW, for the history geeks like myself, I believe the graphic artist who created this card blacked out the word "Comet" on the lead car. For years after the fire that destroyed the helix, the Paragon Giant used trains from the Salisbury Beach Comet (aka Wildcat). These trains did not come from the Forest Park Highlands Comet as several web sites claim. (The FPH Comet had three sets of those funky streamlined four-bench cars with the headlight). Somewhere in The Closet I have a good shot of the Salisbury Comet trains running on the Paragon ride. Â I'm just sayin' Â -S
thrillerman1
From last week's Matterhorn to this week's, here's the original, and it appears that the snow is melting and Spring is just around the corner. One question...Why do I keep hearing that from "The Price is Right" gameshow in my head? Â I figure all you monorail fanboys will like this one too! astroworldfan1
Too bad the monorail can't travel through the mountain! That'd be sweet! Â Nice card Mark! Â -Tatum

Nrthwnd
Here's a "Blast From The Past" - my past, actually, lol. I picked this up in September, 1975 (omg) when me and my partner did our first "road trip," down the entire west coast, as far as.... Tijuana. Â It's a "postcard folder" that unfolds to reveal several photos of MM in "the old days". Way before Six Flags. And before several coasters that now reside there. Â Enjoy. The Galaxy at night. El Bumpo! Bumper cars AND you get wet! The Jet Stream with the Sky Tower in back. A old fave flat ride. And look! There's the multi-arm Galaxy ferris wheel behind it. Now who names a tiger "Gambi"??? From one of the animal shows MM did at the time. The car ride - and something for you Monorail fanboys. Anybody for an old fashioned train ride? This was roughly where Goliath is now. And Colossus. A night shot, with the entrance fountain lit up. The Sky Tower. With no Tatsu winding around it..... yet. Top of the Mountain, and the Eagles Flight skyride. Two skyrides actually with the same name, but three stations: El Dorado, Galaxy, and on top - Shangri-La station. And there's the Goldrusher! The Mountain Express! I got that credit, back then. The former MM sign. Flap up! Which shows where you'd write your "wish you were here" message, heh. Back of the folder with the flap down. And that IS the top of the mountain, behind there. With one of the (then) two skyrides going across. Here's the front of the folder. Note the price? And 'they' sure don't look like Mr. Six, LOL! montezooma
Great addition Bill. I love seeing pictures of Magic Mountain in its early years. I remember riding the Galaxy everytime I went to the park. I also got the Mountain Express credit, as a matter of fact it was my first credit!!!! Â Here is a postcard that shows a great old attraction. "The Magic Pagoda". It always smelt like a Doobie Brothers concert inside there.
thrillerman1
So I'm curious about this Magic Pagoda attraction. I believe this is the first time I've ever heard of it. So what exactly was it? What happened to its remains? What is in its former location now? Details, details, details! Someone really needs to publish a book (accompanied by a DVD of course) on the history of the park. restoca
^Was Ninja's station an existing building? Maybe that was formerly the Magic Pagoda? Â This is really a great little souvenir, Bill. I had completely forgotten about the Galaxy wheel. Was that a one-of-a-kind? And where in the park was it located? Â Thanks for sharing those! Really enjoyed them.
Nrthwnd
^ Judging by the map I have and what's there now, I believe the Galaxy ferris wheel was located where the swinging pirate ship and the swings are, now. Opposite the entrance to Goliath? Â I don't know if it was the only one of it's kind. It looks like it was a system that had four small rotating wheels, with four cabs on each wheel, on each of two main towers that would raise and lower, but not together. One would be up and rotating while the other was down and loading. Â The Magic Pagoda I think was added after the skyrides were already in place. On my 1975 map, it looks like it was opposite the top station of the funicular. And the skyride Ninja Station was separate from it, too. As was the Four Winds restaurant which is where the Superman loading station is now. Â I also have the May 1975 flyer I received from MM in the mail, which showed the Pagoda as a new attraction that year, and describes it as... Â "Inspired by the mysterious sights and sounds of the Hong Kong waterfront, the Magic Pagoda utilizes nine individual chambers of illusion to create mind boggling wonders. It's a space age technological marvel, an exciting house of mystery for all ages." Â Hope that helps.
astroworldfan1
The Galaxy wheel. Was that a one-of-a-kind? Â There was one at AstroWorld. Â -Tatum
