Sticky Nicky
Next Harry Potter movie pushed back to July 2009Thursday August 14 5:57 PM ET The release date for the sixth Harry Potter movie, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," was pushed back on Thursday to July 2009 from its original slot in November 2008, movie studio Warner Bros. said. The eight-month change in the opening date to July 17, 2009, is expected to disappoint millions of Harry Potter fans around the world who have already been waiting more than a year to watch the next big-screen installment in the international literary and film phenomenon. Trailers for "Half-Blood Prince" began running last week in advance of the expected November movie release worldwide. Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner Inc, said it had decided to make the change to bolster its release schedule for the lucrative summer moviegoing season -- a period that can account for as much as 40 percent of Hollywood's annual box office receipts. Warner Bros. President Alan Horn said the studio was also still feeling repercussions from the three-month Hollywood screenwriters strike that ended in February but has "impacted the readiness of scripts for other films." "We know the summer season is an ideal window for a family ... release, as proven by the success of our last Harry Potter film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first installment," Horn said. The studio said the change of date would not alter production plans for the final, two-part Potter movie adventure, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." The release date for part one is tentatively set for November 2010. "Deathly Hallows," the seventh and last story from British author J.K. Rowling about the boy wizard and his friends at Hogwarts School, was published in July 2007. The series has sold an estimated 400 million copies, and the books have been translated into more than 60 languages. knottslover77
They have been coming out every 18 months. For a film to be pushed back 8 months sucks. Especially for fans of the movie. 3 months to wait or 11 months to wait, what sounds better? Also they already have a trailer out attached to the Mummy 3. From what I hear less marketing to. No trailers playing in big Fall/winter movies(bond and The day the Earth stood Still). --Jay

Kalepi_Konei
So, if they plan to put the Deathly Hallows Part 1 in NOVEMBER 2010 why can't they put this one out in NOVEMBER 2008? Thats my question, unless they plan on pushing Hallows Part 1 back to.
terrancew_hod
Sounds like Warner doesn't have many blockbusters coming up next year. I know we've pretty much seen it all... I just don't want to see any more tv remakes! Also not many people are going to the movies with the economy; maybe they're hoping things will be better next year so they get more people to spend on the movie. I know a few movie theaters that are like ghost towns on the weekend, even with a huge movie like Batman. Also, it also can be a good promotion for IOA, since the movie will be a little more fresh in people's minds. If parts of "Harry Potter's World" (whatever they are calling it) are to open around the end of 2009-2010, they could push some DVD sales or other promotion to coincide with the opening. alpengeist04
How old will Harry be in the new movie....25, 30? Maybe in the last movie Harry will use a cane instead of a wand. As for the push back of the movie, I'm kinda disappointed. Oh well, what can you do. Hopefully like Terry said, it will somehow help IOA with their promotions.
