SonOfBeastSucks Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 I am going to either SFMM or KBF in less than a week and I only have time for one so PLEASE tell me which one to go to and suggestions for that particular park. Thanks.
maliboomer Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 SFMM isn't all that fantastic, and Knotts has an awful PR department.... go to DCA!
Sir Clinksalot Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Depends on what your looking for. SFMM has more "Coasters", but Knott's has coasters and other kinds of rides Knott's: Coasters: Xcelerator Montezooma's Revenge Silver Bullet Ghostrider Jaguar Boomerang Others: S&S Drop Tower, La Revolucion, Good Log Ride, Good Mine Dark Ride, Rapids Ride, Good Food SFMM: Coasters: Scream Goliath Superman Ninja Batman Riddlers Deja Vu Psyclone Colossus Viper X Revolution Gold Rusher Other: Some old style flat rides, a rapids ride, flume, mediocre food at best. Just save yourself the hassle and go to Disneyland.
SharkTums Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Like Gregg said, it really depends more on what kind of coasters and rides you're into. Give us a bit more info about your decision and we'll be happy to help! Elissa "if you like B&M's go to SFMM" Alvey
SonOfBeastSucks Posted July 13, 2005 Author Posted July 13, 2005 I know what types of coasters each one has, but I also care about other stuff in the park. I am leaning more towards SFMM right now. Crowds are also a concern. Is SB at KBF any good?
SharkTums Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 It's okay...it's not Raptor, Batman, Pyrenees, Montu, Dragons, Top Gun, Top Gun, Katun... SFMM is a bigger, nicer looking park than Knotts... It's a hard call! Elissa "have fun!" Alvey
Mr.Six Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 I would really say SFMM, theres a lot to do there. Also their drink deal is much better. I belive its $8 for the cup filled up at SFMM, plus another $1 per re-fill. But at Knotts, it's also $8 but each re-fill is some sick amount like $3.95. (Thats what I think they are) And its going to be hot. So thats actually an important thing to consider. Water Rides (Cause it will be hot) Knotts: -Timber Mountain Log Ride: Usually you don't get wet at all. Yet on one or two rides I did get some-what soaked. -Big Foot Rapids: This ride used to get us all soaked, but now its usually not much better than the log ride at that. They've killed the water falls. Its been years since I've seen them turned on. Even on the triple digit days. -Riptide: Outside seats Will get you pretty wet yet not sloshy soaked. Inside seats WILL get you sloshy soaked. -Perilous Plunge: Soaked! As in jumped in the pool soaked! _____SFMM -Log Jammer: (might not be open when you go) You get pretty wet about half the time you go on it. It also depends if some kid is using the "water bomb your friends!" machine. -Roaring Rapids, To be honest, i've never been on it. But! Expect a huge line! But people come off of it soaked all the time. Arrowhead Splashdown- You might get a little bit more than sprayed on this ride. Tidal Wave- The absolute worst Splash boat ride ever! A mist on your face if luckey! No water gets on you! At all! But you can stand on the bridge to get soaked! Michael"So you must choose; but choose wisley. "Thomas
Coasterkid20 Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 I'm going to break the mold of everyone else so far but I MUCH prefer Knott's! and here is why: 1. GhostRider (parts of it are getting rough, but it is still one of the best wooden coasters in the country, of the wooden coasters I've been on only Raven can compare to the insane pacing that Ghostrider has) 2. Xcelerator, in terms where it places on the polls and lists, this is the most underrated steel coaster out there. Just don't get caught up on the shortness of the ride, it is simply an amazing ride. 3. Silver Bullet, it has been catching a lot of flack recently, but I have to say when I went last weekend it was running a lot better and more forceful than at the Winter Coaster Solace, the only dissapointing part of the ride is the crappy inline twist, the rest of the ride is very good. 4. Montezooma's Revenge, this is the fourth coaster in my list that i say is still better than anything at SFMM, Schwarzkopf loops are otherworldly and the airtime on the back spike is oddly fun. When I visited the park last Thursday and Friday the lines were shockingly short  The max we waited was like 30 minutes for Ghostrider, and every coaster ran 2 trains the entire day. And for all of you Stacking nazi's knott's was keeping it running very efficiently with little to no stacking on Ghostrider, and was stacking 50% of the time on Silver Bullet. As a whole, I personally love Knott's and have yet to have a "bad" experience there. No offense to the Knott's haters but when you live 7 hours from a coaster not called "Desert Storm" or "Patriot", Knott's is a great park, you just have to focus on the positives about the park......
RC_dartarro Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 I'm going to Knott's in a couple weeks...I'd say Knott's, mostly because it's not packed with people like MM is. I like the atmosphere much better and it's a more family oriented park. If you're more into the huge supercoasters, then you'd probably prefer MM, just as long as you don't mind enormously long lines.
SonOfBeastSucks Posted July 14, 2005 Author Posted July 14, 2005 Does SFMM have a fast pass system like other SF parks?
SharkTums Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Yes... I believe it is $15 for 4 coupons. You need one coupon per person, per ride. Meaning if you are by yourself, you pay $15 and can go skip the lines on 4 rides. If you are a family of four you pay $15 and can go skip the line on 1 ride. You can buy as many of the books of 4 coupons as you'd like. For example if you're by yourself you can pay $30 and go skip the line on 8 rides. The rides that it is usually good on: - Goliath - Riddler - Colossus - Revolution - Roaring Rapids - Tidal Wave - one or two others that I can't remember. They will NEVER be on X or Deja Vu. Elissa "hope this helps" Alvey
SonOfBeastSucks Posted July 16, 2005 Author Posted July 16, 2005 Well thank you, everyone, for all of your help. I am leaving tomorrow morning and spending two weeks in CA. I am most likely going to SFMM but nothing is final yet. Does anyone have any final advice? My plane leaves in eleven hours. Thanks again!
BiCoastal Kid Posted July 16, 2005 Posted July 16, 2005 I say go to Knott's. They don't have as much, but what they have is much better, IMO. Silver Bullet is fun, I think it gets to much crap for not being intense, but it's really fun! The Log Ride is probably my favorite flume. Xcel is really awesome, and you can go eat some chicken. haha
