BRTeller Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 This weekend Tyler, My Mom, and Me decided to go to Delgrossos and Lakemont instead of going to Hershey again. Since we will be going there next weekend anyways. First we stopped at Lakemont, we just wanted to get some pictures of coasters, and hopefully will go in a couple of weeks. So yes Lakemont opens next weekend. So after we did that, we went to DelGrossos and got a couple of credits, along with there new coaster that should be opening this year. But the structure was not up yet. So then we went into the park, rode the few rides they had and got two credits. So we had a good time, and if you want to know how it all went just read the Photo TR below. Photo Report Hopefully in a couple of weeks we can ride you! You look like fun. In some way, I think this was photogenic. Yummm! The park looks pretty from these pictures, it looks like a fun dump in real life. Classic rides are the best though. Entrance did look nice though. Still not bad, also this was wide open, we could walk right through the park. They had the gate wide open. It was big enough to even drive through. Toboggan and Leap the Dips! The whole structure of Leap the Dips. Toboggan looks like an old piece of crap, but fun all at the same time. Skyliner was the nicest looking coaster there. The ballpark was the nicest thing there period though. I mean it looked small, but really really nice. Nerd shot! Pretty, I wonder if any one gets any balls to the face from the field. These pictures really do make it look awesome. Skyliner! Go Karts, YAY! Turn around, YAY! Go Curve, YAY! Here you go lift hill enthusiasts. The station. Twisty Goodness, not quite.... Sweet, Kiddy Credit! DelGrossos's, Unknown coaster, that was supposed to open in 08. I didn't see any construction, and only one piece of track. I remember seeing a bunch, maybe they are painting it. As they were all in this ride junk yard/restore place, so maybe they were working on it. Here's one whole car, I think there were about six of these in the area. Here's the piece of crap, I mean track. Me, and the Camera Bag. I look so happy, I will be soon once I see what I'm about to! Go Karts, YAY, Tyler loves driving things! HaHa, can't get me. Damn!!! Sweet, I can be a credit whore, and force Tyler to be one also! Not an Intamin Drop tower, but still has little pops of air. DelGrosso's Sign, thanks mom the picture is crooked! (BTW, I'm writing this on Mother's Day, so Happy Mothers Day) This ones ok mom, I think this was Tyler's favorite one. WEEEE! Meh.... It's ok. Best ride at the park. Second Best. The park was small. Hotdog, yumm. Notice the whit thing in my hair, Tyler put that in my hair on the car ride to here. I thought I got it out, and he said he wanted to see how long it would stay there. It stayed there the whole day, Thanks Tyler! Credit Whore time! I'm a worm/caterpillar yay! Meh, hardly even spinned. So that was the whole day, DelGrossos was like a smaller Knoebels. (A much smaller Knoebels)
eddie200330 Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Forget about the kiddie credit at Lakemont. I was denied last year because you have to be under I believe 14 years old or some crap they told me. So it looks like another year is gonna pass with no corkscrew at DelGrosso's. The pieces have been sitting in the same spots since they arrived and by the looks of your pics, they still haven't moved. BTW, the karts at Lakemont blow the ones away at DelGrosso's. Both parks are less than 1.5 hours away so we hit them up every year. Lakemont has the better "rides" DelGrossos the better "atmosphere". Lakemont is like one big ghetto fun fair where if there is no one waiting they tend to let the rides run a little longer!!!
Kennyweird Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Nice TR! I'm planning on doing Lakemont and Delgrosso's as a day trip this summer (You can do both parks all in the same day, right?), so it's nice to see some more pictures of these parks before I visit.
BRTeller Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 I look young for my age, so I will pass off as 13 or 14 haha! I'll get the credit, buy yeah it looks like Lakemont does have the better rides, and DelGrossos was nicer and cleaner. Ohh and the second post, yeah you can do both in the same day, there about 15 minutes apart and both fairly small.
eddie200330 Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 You can do both parks all in the same day, right?), I would recommend DelGrosso's first, and end with Lakemont, you might be able to catch a ball game at the same time. Also, be sure to check out the schedules as I belive Lakemont is closed on Mon and Tues., with Wednesday being a dollar day type deal! Their website has all the info on it. Also just about every other Sunday DelGrosso's offers the "FREE" concert in the park with sorta top of the line country, oldies, and christian acts. Unless it is someone you would want to see, stay away as the place will be packed. http://www.lakemontparkfun.com/ http://www.delgrossos.com/dap.html
Ccron10 Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Great TR. I kinda figured Libertyland's old corkscrew coaster was still there rotting (or should i say rusting) away. I really don't think the coaster is going to be built by the way that piece of track looks.
307 Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Nice TR Just to mention, the Altoona Curve's ballpark has, I believe, the highest capacity of all of the AA ballparks. It's small by Major League standards, sure, but for a ballpark in a third tier baseball league, it's pretty impressive And from what I've heard, they used to not run the coaster during games... but now they do? I can't verify that though. Lakemont was such a dump when we went, except the Skyliner/stadium area. Del Grosso's was a bit better but seemed just like a glorified street fair with better food. You should get out to Idlewild! That place was very nice!
andy_e219 Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 I was planning on going back to Lakemont this season and go to DelGrossos for the first time to ride the Revolution, but without the Revolution, I most likely won't go to either park this season. I was at Lakemont last season and Leap the Dips and the Skyliner were in very poor shape, espacially Leap the Dips. They really need to rehab these coasters. Here's a video I took of Leap the Dips last season:
CoasterEricHP Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 I rode Leap the Dips a few years ago.. probably at least 5-6, but it was a much better ride than I anticipated! You get some nice airtime on the dips! It's a must ride for any enthusiast if youre in the area just because of the history of it. I should've done more whoring at Lakemont tho.. sigh.
palmerleeberry Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I was at Lakemont Park last year and did enjoy myself even though Leaps the Dip wasn't running (had some reconstruction issues) and I couldn't ride the Skydiver in part to the restraints against my massive chest (felt like a medieval torture device). I plan to revisit Lakemont park during the Atoona Mirror Days on June 14 in hopes that I'll be able to ride Leap the Dips and finally have ridden the last coaster of its class. Then to DelGrosso's park to ride the rides that Lakemont doesn't have. By the way, many thank-you-very-muchs goes to andy_e219 on his video of the ride Leap the Dips so I know what to look forward too. "I'm here to announce that this is my #100 post on themeparkreview. Pass out the champagne!!!"
eddie200330 Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I posted this in the original thread but it has since dropped to the bottom of page 2. Just a little FYI about DelGrosso's "new" coaster... Since summer is approaching and nothing has been posted on RCDB or their website, I thought out of curiosity I would drop them a line. Here is their reply.. Hello and thank you for your interest in DelGrosso’s Amusement Park. To be honest we have been doing a lot of homework on the Corkscrew coaster. There still is no concrete time when the coaster is going up though. It will be a great addition to the Park someday. Sorry! Sincerely, Amie Uliano Marketing Coordinator/Administrative Assistant Tipton Station Marketing & Advertising Old Route 220 Tipton, PA 16684-0335
coasterdude5 Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 I got that same reply back in late 2006 / early 2007. I highly doubt the ride will ever be built. It should've stayed here in Memphis... it lasted over 25 years. Maybe the park will sell it to another park.
TheRapidsNerd Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Thought I read somewhere that Revolution had to be cut apart to move, and that putting it back together meant welds that would kill any kind of smoothness (for an old Arrow anyway). If this is so, the future could be grim. Also cool Leap The Dips PoV. Looks like one my weak stomach could ride.
