coastercrazed49 Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Great Pictures Eric. El Toro looks awesome, or should I say Torotums. How long was the wait for Kingda ka with the breakdown? OMG we have the same shoes!
bgeguy Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 So, did you fly into Newport News as well as flying out?
Erik Johnson Posted May 4, 2008 Author Posted May 4, 2008 So, did you fly into Newport News as well as flying out? We sure did. As for the Kingda Ka breakdown, it was around 15 minutes. The Newport News airport model.
bgeguy Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 They're supposed to be introducing a new carrier soon and eventually build a new terminal. Anyway, Great TR and photos!
YoshiFan Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Are SFoG and SFGAdv trying to save cost by not running the rapids until later in the summer? Granted, the weather's been dodgy, but I thought those would be running by now. The log flume and congo rapids only operate from Memorial Day to Labor Day now. I can understand the rapids but the log flume should have been open by now especially with it getting into the 70's on many days.
Erik Johnson Posted May 4, 2008 Author Posted May 4, 2008 ^^ We did see the log flume run for part of the day. Nobody was riding it because it was pretty much in the 50's the entire day.
slither37 Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Fantastic TR. Getting me very excited for my trip to BGE and KD in June. I am going to DC first so, I may have to slip in SFA as well. If anyone could give suggestions on what days to go go to these parks I would appreciate it very much. I will be in the are for an entire week starting June 21. have employee passes to BGE and Cedar Fair season passes. I was planning on going to KD on Wednesday as there appear to be some 'Point Perks' i can take advantage of. Please, any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks for the comparison between Griffon and Shiekra. i will be getting the Griffon credit and my daughter will then have both as she rode Shiekra without me. is that grounds for disownment?

Good to hear, I remember seeing this sign and thought it was still closed.: http://www.amusementpics.com/SFGANotesSpring08/040508-190.jpg I have been to the park 4 times so far this season and have yet to see it run so I figured it hadn't opened for the season so it's nice that they have been running it, at least a little. Hopefully I'll catch it open before Memorial Day.

I really suggest to try to hit these parks on a weekday. You will be there in the middle of summer vacation, so expect the parks to be crowded. I highly recommend getting to these parks extra early, at least 30 minutes before the park(s) actually open. With King's Dominion, make sure you go ride Volcano right at park opening, since that one will have long lines for the rest of the day. Six Flags America does have an inexpensive flash pass system. You get 5 tickets for $10. If you are able to get them before the park opens its rides section, go get them. If not, make sure you head directly for Batwing first.
Team Thriller Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I hope they do something to the Black Night building because it seems very plain and takes away from the beauty of the park. This is probably the best SFGadv TR I've seen. Great job. --James
Nemesis Inferno Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 ^I agree if you mean the 'Dark Knight' building... It's hideous... And I've been to Thorpe Aside from that, good TR... Maybe one year I can go round to BGE and GAdv...
Erik Johnson Posted May 21, 2008 Author Posted May 21, 2008 Ah, the Gainsville Airport, got a cool memory there. Nothing like getting off the plane and being met on the runway by busses and about 10 state troopers to escort you to your hotel before a game in the Swamp. To bad we got smoked by the Gators, but it was a pretty awesome experience. Awesome trip report, Apollo gets no love, I love Apollo, great ride Ah yes! I remember meeting you during the Midwest trip when we all met up for the Rumbler ERT session. That was an awesome time. I am glad that you still had a great experience while in Gville.
Hattuchili Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Hey Erik, thanks for all the great pictures. It really looks like you had an awesome trip. I miss Carrabbas a lot and the entrance of Bush Gardens Europe looks a bit like Germany. hehe... Damn, it looks like you got already more credits on your list than me. Now I think I have to make it on some TPR trips next year. So, what park do you like more, Bush Gardens Europe or Bush Gardens Africa? --Soren
aya5045 Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 Awesome TR, and great pictures! Mmm El Toro. It'd be sweet to get to go back there this summer. I haven't been on it since it first opened.
