dr.gumbo
Awesome trip report, it makes me wish I was there. I would love to go back to Blackpool sometime but my dad hates the place (need not go into details).
divyking
and a nice launch. I do think the launch of Stealth back at Thorpe was a bit faster (but I don't know the details!). Rita goes from 0-62mp/h in 2.5 seconds and Stealth goes from 0-80mp/h in 1.9 seconds - thats why Stealth feels a lot faster. However i think Rita's average speed is a higher/same since there isn't a top hat!
Divv3k
Sorry about the delay in getting this last part up! Hope you enjoy it! --- PART SEVEN OAKWOOD Well this was a place that was new to all of us. Being from the UK it really is shocking I'd went this long before visiting Oakwood but it really isn't the most convenient place to get to. The park was dead. I mean really dead, there were maybe 20-30 people in the park all day. This was great as we could take it easy and ride whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted. The park itself is quite nice. Very peaceful and relaxed with a nice ride selection. Megafobia wasn't that great in my opinion but Speed really impressed me. All in all it was a great day and a great way to cap off the trip. I'd just like to thank all the guys for coming and thank AJ, Andrew, Steve, Dave and Mike for contributing photos and videos for this TR. Here's the last batch of photos... Thanks to everyone who followed along with this trip report. And thanks to Shawn for giving us great things to laugh about! Hi Shawn! So with that our trip is over. Thanks to all the guys, it was great fun! This was a LOT of fun. Especially for the people who used to watch the TV show. After Oakwood we checked out the Crystal Maze. Mike wasn't so smart. Dave's delighted he was wearing a poncho. Andrew's just happy he didn't drown. SKLOOOOSSHHHH!!!! AJ, Andrew, Dave and Mike braved Hydro. AJ wasn't taking any chances when it came to the next ride. There's always one who gets wet on rides like this. Dave and Andrew experienced some heart in mouth moments here. Mike took another risk by being the first to try the tea trays. But no excitement for Dave since he was too scared to try the slide. The slide of death provided plenty of excitement. AJ tried to reenact the ride for us. And lots of other rabbit shenanigans. Yeah, there's plenty of rabbit nudity. We really didn't know what to make of this! Ah, Brer Rabbit's Acid Trip! AJ was gutted when he found out that Matt wasn't performing today! Which in turn tempts Andrew into demolishing a few himself. AJ follows up the Bobsled experience with some tasty Oakwood doughnuts. AJ doesn't even realise there's a brake! Andrew tries it a little faster. Dave enjoys a leisurely roll down the hill. Next up we headed for the Bobsled. Its a nice little combination shot/drop ride. After the fun of Speed we headed for Bounce. The Hooters Crew enjoy yet another ride. I think Speed took all of us by surprise. And really good fun! Thankfully this ride is a lot more comfortable! The lift hill is a bit unconvential. Kinda gave some of us flashes back to the dreaded Toboggan! Mike, Dave and Andrew prepare to ride. It's quite an impressive looking ride. Especially for its small footprint. Time to ride the Eurofighter! As I found out when I was just about decapitated by a rogue branch! Watch out for tree branches as you ride this one! We headed to Speed but noticed the Treetops Coaster was about to open as we passed. Don't get me wrong it wasn't bad. Just not great. We managed to have fun on just about every ride we rode on this trip! I imagine it used to be quite good but maybe it just hasn't held up over the years. I was led to believe this ride was a lot better than it actually is. It's a really nice looking coaster. OK, let's check out Megafobia! We're not even in the park and Dave is camping it up already. Today's stop - Oakwood!

thecoasterkid
Great trip report Divv. I'm glad that even though I wasn't on the trip with you guys I could continue to be the butt of many of your jokes. I can't wait to hit up a park with all of you again. Dave and Mike, I'll see you guys in August!
coaster_dude2002
Oakwood! Beautiful park, lots of sheep, and plenty of fun, especially when it is empty I'm surprised that they keep the park open during the week with attendance like that. We had to for enough people on quite a few of their rides. Like Divv said Speed was amazing and I was shocked that a small ride could pack such a punch. The first drop is amazing in the back seats. Megaphobia was a bit of let down, but still a fun ride. The Crystal Maze was great fun at the end of the day. I was slightly confused about the concept at first after never watching, or even hearing about the show until Divv told me about it. Basically its a series of mental and physical challenges that you must complete in a specified time in order to collect crystals and points. Quite a few of the challenges are surprisingly difficult and we never managed to pass them. Once you complete the challenges you finish off with the Crystal Dome. Inside you have to hit as many illuminated buttons to gain points, if you hit unlit ones point will be deducted from your score. 3 minutes in the dome on advanced level is a great work out, I'd hate to see the expert level. The first round we went as one large group and the second round we split split up in to team Canadutch (AJ and I) Vs. Divv, Dave and Mike (were you guys team "Salt and Pepper"?). Somehow team Canadutch ended up with a score of 2 placing us dead last out of the 5 teams to compete that day (3 of them being our group) Thanks again for planning the whole road trip out Divv, we couldn't have done it without you. 4 days + 1000 miles + 5 parks = one heck of an awesome time with great friends! Louise
Fantastic report Divv, looks like you guys had a great time!! A few random thoughts: * I'm always glad when Nemesis blows people away. I think it's really easy to forget just how amazing it is. And has it really been 14 years?? Jesus. * LOL at the Blackpool night out. Is there any way I can bribe anybody to post more pictures of that? * Oakwood is great fun, Speed is one of my favourite coasters of all time, and I'm thrilled to see that the Crystal Maze is still there as I'd heard a rumour about it disappearing. Was my favourite show as a kid! * This whole report (reading it all in one go) brought back so many memories of the TPR UK trip! * Divv, this entire report was like the Buffet of Divv Expressions!! So many random faces! * I must go to Hooters..... Fun stuff!
coaster_dude2002
^ Lou, there are a few more photos, and even a video from the walk back to the hotel in Blackpool. No amount of bribing will make me release them due to fear of death from the others.
Divv3k
Thanks Lou! Apparently there used to be a Crystal Maze in Blackpool! Wish I'd had the chance to check that out. Oh and if you ask very nicely when we're in Europe I might be able to conjure up a photo or two!
Louise
^^ Boo you!! What's all this loyalty! I have this horrendously hilarious picture of Chris from Japan that I wasn't going to post and planned to keep for blackmail material, but in the end it was too funny to waste! It's posted somewhere around here! The Hooters Crew obviously like each other too much to screw each other over. Thanks Lou! Apparently there used to be a Crystal Maze in Blackpool! Wish I'd had the chance to check that out. Oh and if you ask very nicely when we're in Europe I might be able to conjure up a photo or two! Yeah, I've heard that but I don't know how long ago it was, I don't remember it!! There used to be several I think, pretty sure the one near Oakwood is the last one now! I really want to go back to Oakwood, I loved both the park and the Maze when I went with the TPR lot in '06, but it's just such a pain in the arse to get to.... especially without a car. (this will come back to haunt me I just know it) Here is one photo. This was just before some obscene things happened to the lamppost directly in front of Dave and AJ (go back to Dave and the Oakwood Entrance or AJ and Megaophobia/random pole to see what I mean). If vast quantities of beer are promised the video may surface. That poor lamppost doesn't know whats about to happen. Sorry Dave and AJ.

Louise
^ Well, apparently your mate Divv can be bribed with alcohol, so... I like this thread muchly. And since it was just said in chat, I have to add the comment I forgot: I can't BELIEVE somebody actually won a 360 from one of those machines!! fudgey
That was an amazing moment... So much tension, almost caught on video Actually, I so wish we had a video of 'I can't drive a dodgems car girl'....
coaster_dude2002
^ I have never seen someone do as many 360's on the dodgems in my life. She spent a good 2 or 3 minutes in the same spot just spinning around, and her friend was nice enough to go around for a bit and then slam in to her instead of helping her out of the corner. I loved how she got a round of applause from the entire queue and crowd when she finally managed to move the car in a straight line, just before the ride cycle was over. Fallen Heretic
I remember the Crystal Maze in Blackpool. It was in the Sandcastle building, where the Casino is now. I cant remember when it closed, but I do remember it was replaced by "World of Coronation Street". Pffft. I dont remember being that bad in 'the Blackpool night out' but apparently there is a video which proves otherwise. As long as no-one has a video of my dancing. EDIT: Dodgem spinny lady was one of the funniest things I have ever seen.
Divv3k
Yeah I feel I should point out that there was an actual 360 in the box. And Steve almost won a PS3 a few hours later. It was crazy. It's a shame we never captured his winning moment on video. But we caught this: I didn't mention the dodgem woman because I felt like we would be depriving everyone else since we were all stupid enough not to take video. It was seriously one of the funniest things I've ever seen! MVI_4203_agk.avi Better quality version of the above video. Proof that it wasn't just an empty box that Steve won! cobra_roll06
Ha! That video is awesome! I came so close to winning again. But I still can't believe I won in the first place! I thought it was quite funny that as we left the machine a few kids who were watching ran over to it! Dodgem woman! What a legend! I tried so hard not to laugh but it was just to funny! The night at Blackpool was great, I have loads of "interesting" pictures even though I don't remember using my camera at all that night! But I do remember lamp posts, bus stops & Dave's infamous discovery of Traffic Lights! On a final note, I would just like to thank everyone on the trip for letting me join, especially Divv for organising a great trip! Having only met Divv and Scott, I was pretty nervous meeting you all and I am normally a really shy guy when meeting new people but use were all awesome!
