CoasterComet Posted April 7, 2008 Author Posted April 7, 2008 ^I've never heard of it running 3 trains. Shockwave, I believe, had the same set-up. It was possible to run 3 on both rides, but didn't happen as far as I've heard. Both rides had 3 trains though I think after the first loop, at the top of the helix (or 'horizontal loop') the train can stop there. Maybe before the 2nd loop as well. There was a Mindbender accident where a train 'stopped suddenly' injuring a few people. I wonder if it was at one of these trim/block brakes.
Voyage_luvr Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Hopefully I will get to ride Mindbender and all the other SFOG coasters this summer. It looks to be a pretty out of your seat ride. I've ridden it on YouTube and I already like it (although I didn't doesn't top The Voyage ) Not too much longer until I can be riding The Voyage.
CoasterComet Posted April 7, 2008 Author Posted April 7, 2008 ^It's really a boring ride. I can't figure out why so many people rave about it. Anyway, that's what I tell people before they ride Thunderbolt, Mindbender, CI Cyclone and a few others. I guess after so many super fast nuclear like B&M and Intamin rides, these kind of pale. But guess what!? They are FUN, comfortable, and the same, even when you go back to ride them, like 20 years later! Here's another video I took last summer. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=25720314
montezooma Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 I rode Mindbender in its opening season and it was grey. I also rode it when it was tan and brown and again with its final color scheme. I have never seen it a metalic green color. I think the printing colors must be off in your copy of Roller Coaster Fever

I have never seen it a metalic green color. I think the printing colors must be off in your copy of Roller Coaster Fever Mustabeen! It sure looks a very rich green-metallic (very 70's) in my Rollercoaster Fever (which is falling apart). I do have an old brochure where it looks more blue/grey, so you must be right. For years, I thought it was metallic green! Geez, my first ride on Mindbender was quite a shock. I mean, nearly switching seats with my bud Matt (hey Matt!) going into that helix. It's really amazing that Six Flags has a somewhat 'wild' ride w/no seat dividers (please, DON'T get any ideas). The ride is genius and one of the single best coaster experience out there.
VivaLaVibora Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 To me, that brown/beige color looks horrible. I love what they did with this roller coaster making it's theme Riddler. The question marks, the green track, and even that old name make it perfect for Gotham City. I kind of think that Shockwave is a little better though.

I barely remember it. Roller skating, old chicago. That's where those names came from. I'm glad it's not 'Riddler' (even thought they did want to rename it). That ride is too good for it. As for shockwave, a great incredible ride. Pretty much equal (well, little less than Mindbender in my book, but so close, who cares!). I just wish they would give Shockwave an 'ok' paint job. This new electric blue/green is ugly, but not as bad at the 1995 white/beige/peptal bismal pink loop-interior look. It was nice when TG opened, the dark blue supports and silver structure, that was nice!
montezooma Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Here is the ride in its early season. You can clearly see that it was grey. They trains where silver but they had that rainbow stripe from the front of the train to the back. Love the shorts and socks look! God did we really dress like that and think it looked good????
CoasterComet Posted April 7, 2008 Author Posted April 7, 2008 ^Holy hoo-ha! You are a saint for posting those pictures! Those are really great! At least everyone seems to agree on the 'rainbow' tapered stripe. I've heard people telling me that they waited like 3 hours to ride it that first year! Very 'Beast-epic'
VivaLaVibora Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 It's a nice picture, but I don't understand why do they still have a picture of the older Shockwave ride with the older paint scheme. It's baffling. It looks completely different with the new paint scheme. I want to find the blue roller coaster, and I can't find it. http://www.sixflags.com/overTexas/rides/ShockWave.aspx

bspellx5 Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 About having 3 trains, I believe Mindbender and its cousin at SFoT both had 3 trains, but were only capable of running 2 at a time. Not 100% sure though.
bhartley Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Back in 1983 to 1985 SFOG was my home park. I lived a 1/2 mile from the park and I went there every day in the summer when I was on summer break from school. I have been lucky enough to see and ride the Mindbender in all of it's color scheems. I rode it 36 times in a row without ever getting out of the seat. It was a really fun park and I knew all the ride opps by first name basis. Most were my friend's. There were days in the summer when the parked stayed open all night and they held big name concert's there. I saw Night Ranger and Steve Perry there. After 3 in the morning all the video games were free. It was a great park back then. I wish I lived closer now. I have not been there since 2001. I miss the old day's . I was lucky enough to ride Z-Force also. Bill
denning Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 I just love how the track looks like so similar to the design used on modern Intamin coasters. This looks like Mavericks granddaddy
nannerdw Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 According to the Six Flags website, Shockwave was made by Intamin
