They really do gather water quickly. I remember on Dueling Dragons a few years ago that during a typical Florida rain storm, the wheel covers filled up and overflowed in the time that it took for the trains to go from the brake run to the unload station. Unfortunately for me, I sat on the outside and got a nice lap-full of water when we started up the lift hill.

I truly hate the rain policy. My dad drove me and a friend 7 hours to the park this summer, and luckily, we got there earlier than expected, so we rode all the larger coasters as soon as we got there. We spent the night at Hotel Breakers, and got the Maverick credit (AWESOME) in the morning, but a few minutes later, it started to sprinkle. In 20 seconds, it stopped. Everything closed, and tested for 1 whole our (each train on Mantis, which we were queuing for, had to test 8 times. I counted). One train loaded, and pulled out of the station. Started sprinkling. Operations stopped. Rain stopped. Trains started testing again. We went home.

BOOOO RAIN POLICY!!!

I can explain a few things that have been brought up in this topic. Raptor shuts down in any sort of rain (and has for the past few years) due to rust water that tends to rain down on riders. Apparently one day a few seasons ago 20-something people showed up in Park Operations completely colored orange and quite mad LOL. Not sure what can be done about this, short of repainting the entire ride and/or getting new trains. Other rides that will close in any sort of rain are Dragster (it has problems with wet friction wheels in the pre-launch area and simply cannot get over the hill with water on the track). Also, Gemini will close because it uses photo eyes to sense where the trains are the won't work if they're wet. Disaster Transport closes because the roof and track tubes leak, causing the cars to fishtail inside the trough when it's wet. That ride just needs to be demolished.

I don't think it is limited to just those rides. ALL of the coaster shut downs numerous times while the TPR midwest trip was there. It literally took 5 or 6 hours to ride Corkscrew, the mine train, mantis, and one other ride I can't think of right now.

Someone said that each train has to cycle 15 times after a shower... it's only five. I'm not condoning their policy, just correcting you. I don't like it when people embellish their stories to make something sound crappier than it really is.

People embellish their stories because if it starts drizzling 3 cycles in, they shut down for another hour before trying again. It happened to us. Numerous times. Or better yet, they get so paranoid they take a 1/2 hour to redo the block check without spieling to the guests waiting in line...

The thing that bothers me the most is that it is completely obvious Cedar Fair doesn't give a sh*t about the guests. IIRC, the ticket booths all say "no rain checks." Which would be fine if they didn't shut the whole freaking park down for no reason! State law my ass.

The thing to do for single day ticket holders who got rained out with no rain check would be to call their credit card company and issue a charge back. I'd imagine that just about any bank would approve your charge back if you told them that you went to an amusement park who didn't run any rides when you were there and refused to make it right.

I remember being at BGE with friends on a very rainy July 4th. It just poured from about 10:00 am until the middle of the afternoon. Busch actually gave guests vouchers for free admission that were valid for up to a year (if you went to Guest Relations and asked about them). What was really nice was that my friends get their vouchers, the rain emptied out much of the park (which had been very crowded), and the rest of the afternoon and evening (sans rain) were great.

That's the kind of service that makes people want to come back. (Note that BGE doesn't close all their rides in the rain unless there's lightning in the area.)

BGE knows how to treat their guests right, thats for sure. Great park.

Busch is also excellent about refunding unused tickets. I was going to go to Sea World last December, but when we showed up to the park we found out that Kraken was down for maintenance. They were nice enough to have a sign at the parking booth. We opted to not go inside the park and sent away for a refund when we got home from our trip.

Does anyone know how bad the rain is in late June to early July for the CP area? I know I'm not going until 2009 because of the CW trip, and I got a fully sunny trip when I went in 2004, but maybe I caught CP on a good day. So, what is the usual at that time a year?

My god, what the heck is Cedar Fair thinking?

I went this summer from the 25th to the 27th, and it was hot the first two days and at the end of the third day sprinkled. Thus ending our trip.
