I've only known CGA in recent years (2000 on)... Vortex seems oddly placed in the park... with the exception of a turn or two, it is not visually appealing in any way. I wonder what it was like when Tidal Wave was still there. Was it even more crowded in there? Or were they never at the park at the same time? Did Tidal Wave get a better view from the other side of the park?

I hope the new wooden coaster (and I think Magnitude is a GREAT name for a ride. perhaps YOU should trademark it and cash in on it) is a step towards using the Grizzly location for something better!

if you're coming all the way from Kentucky... and are going to California... i can't imagine picking CGA/SFDK over Knott's / SFMM... unless you've already been there.

I still need to check out Disneyland, but I feel like I missed the magic (and I've been to WDW in Orlando). Here we are arguing about Paramount or Cedar Fair "ruining a park," and you have Disney there, arguably imploding from their own decisions and the park hasn't even changed hands... (ok, well, i guess you could say a lot has changed within the government-sized operation that is Disney).

If you've got a Cedar Fair pass, and are making a trip to the CGA area, I would also suggest Gilroy Gardens... not much for thrills, but it is a very beautiful and quirky park. Then hit Santa Cruz for a ride on the Giant Dipper and carousel (with rings).

Yes especially since they can build in excess of 200 feet in that particular area of the park. Intamin anyone?

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing a rocket coaster back there...maybe give it a car theme so that it could fit in with the old cars? After all, it is called the "Action Zone" back there unless they want to change it to "Scream Zone"

As for name changes, they are just names, and are not changing the way the rides run and may as well just bite the bullet and accept it.

A name doesn't matter. Angry Gumball is right. They are still the same rides we have been on & will always be known by their old names. If you don't like Flight Deck just call it Top Gun & picture the Top Gun name over the Flight Deck sign.

Cedar Fair needs to get rid of the Grizzly. I can't believe Paramount had to get rid of Stealth & Greased Lightnin & not the slow moving Grizzly. That would be 3 coasters gone if they get rid of the Grizzly soon. A new woodie for next year, then at least 2 more after that I will be satisified.

I have the option this summer of CGA or Hot August Nights in Reno as a little perk from my employer. Past choices have been Disneyland or Las Vegas. I guess we really are in an economic recession.

Demon is not rough at all. The only jerky park of the ride is the transition into the corkscrews. Vortex and Grizzly are the roughest.

I agree. And if you lean your head to the right just before entering the corkscrews it really isn't bad. Grizzly on the other hand is just death bumpy. Vortex has smooth rides on occasion and so does Invertigo, but Invertigo has more padded restraints.

Demon was extremely smooth Sunday. Even the transition into the first corkscrew threw me off...I was expecting a jolt into it and just had some laterals that weren't so sudden.

Vortex, seems to have a mind of it's own. Some rides within a day, I've had smooth. Others were rough. Sunday, mainly the corkscrew was a bit rough. Haven't ridden Grizz or Invertigo yet this season.

I've only ridden Vortex twice, and in both runs I came out battered and bruised. Never again...

I remember Vortex being my favorite ride when I visited in summer 1995. I rode it repeatedly as the park was closing. I guess I'm ashamed to say Top Gun wasn't. Maybe because I had already been on Batman, but this was my first stand-up. Maybe the line for Top Gun was too long to ride again. However, I am ashamed to say I didn't do Tidal Wave because I had been on Montezooma's Revenge.

I agree that a name definitely does not make or break a ride experience. Although, I actually prefer the lame-o names over the movie themed names, but that is just my preference.

Who's gonna say they didn't laugh their toot off when they first heard 'Steel Eel'? I still find it funny...lame, but yet so awesome!

'Drop Zone Stunt Tower' + 'Drop Tower' (Lame name x 2) = Still a Fun Ride
