thrillgeek Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Accompaning Tony Hawk's Big Spin for 2008 will be a new Fuzion Zone!! Check out the info. Six Flags has signed an unusual sponsorship deal with NextSport, the creator of the Fuzion “performance scooter”, which is basically what looks like the offspring of a Skateboard with one of a Razor scooters. This is more than just your typical sponsorship deal however as they will create a series of in-park Fuzion Scooter Riding Zones, with the first Fuzion Zone opening this spring at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. The Fuzion Zone will provide park guests the opportunity a Fuzion in a custom designed and fully supervised skate park that will feature basic riding zones as well as basic ramp and jump configurations. Guests will also be able to watch members of the Fuzion Pro Team demonstrate their skills during exhibitions. I'm really excited about this announcment! It will be a great addition to the park for this year. What are your thoughts?
Team Thriller Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Six Flags is really putting money into this park. I wonder how much farther they'll go with it. --James
ECZenith Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Well, this ought to be fun for a year or so until the gimmick wears off. I swear within a few years we'll be seeing things like Coca Cola: The Ride springing up at Six Flags parks everywhere.
jackskellington101 Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I swear within a few years we'll be seeing things like Coca Cola: The Ride springing up at Six Flags parks everywhere. That actually might not be a bad investment. At least it's an established brand.
Sticky Nicky Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Six Flags is really putting money into this park. I wonder how much farther they'll go with it. --James The park had a pretty decent crowd when I was there in Late August. It wasn't packed, but California had already started school. They bought the land underneath the park from the city for over $50 million this past year. They also rebranded and spent millions in rethemeing this year. They are spending $7 million on a new coaster this year. I don't know, this may be a park to watch out for in the near future. I think that this park is now one of the gems of Six Flags. EDIT: I almost forgot, they added a Holiday in the Park event in 2007, one of the rare moments when operating hours are longer and not shorter in the Six Flags family.
thrillgeek Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 Yeah I agree I think last year I read somewhere that sfdk (My home park ) was becoming a model for Six Flags parks to follow. In terms of family atmosphere that is.
robbalvey Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I swear within a few years we'll be seeing things like Coca Cola: The Ride springing up at Six Flags parks everywhere. Why would that be a big deal? I mean, no one really seemed to care that it's called "Pepsi Max: Big One" and for the last 14 years it's been totally acceptable. So why is it "ok" for a traditional park like Blackpool to do it but from the sounds of it, you'd give Six Flags crap for doing it? Is it really that much different from "Rock N Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith?" They are both established brands. One of them promotes buying soft drinks. One promotes buying music. How is that different? --Robb "Really getting sick of the biased against Six Flags lately when all they are showing is improvements..." Alvey
SharkTums Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Was there any mention if participating in the Fuzion Zone is an extra cost? Also, I'm guessing some sort of release will be needed? I can't imagine them just letting random 14 year olds on scooters without parental permission? Sounds like a neat idea, but a logistics nightmare!
thrillgeek Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 Well it says it's fully supervised so I'm not sure how it's going to be run exactly. I should be there opening day and or a few weeks after to get some pics for you guys.
jamesdillaman Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 ^ Just because you fully supervise someone breaking a leg doesn't make it any better... I assume some liability waiver would have to be signed by a parent or legal guardian if under the age of 18. -James Dillaman
Angry_Gumball Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 I'm assuming that this isn't going to be a permanent thing. My guess is that they would probably use those portable "Ramptech" ramps to put in. I'm also guessing that there would be an extra charge as there would be long lines to ride a scooter around.
Wes Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Everytime I read the title I think it's related to those yogurt drinks Dannon makes. Nothing says fun like yogurt + coasters on a nice summers day.
Mechanic Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 I bet my my kids will love this. Discovery Kingdom has really made some great strides recently at improving the "family friendly" aspect of this park and I hope this trend continues. The 2007 season was great and it looks like 2008 will be even better. I used to bag on six flags to some extent, and it was primarily because I felt they deserved it. Not anymore though. They're really heading in the right direction as far as I'm concerned and I can' wait to see the changes at Magic Mountain as well when we head down for WCB.
